KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening, Wexler County. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. It's five o'clock, and this is what we have for you this hour on KRAK 11 News.
The World Desk — one man is dead and one woman remains in critical condition after a police pursuit ends in a crash. We have new details on what happened.
Criminal Intent — it is National Dog Day, and back in August of 2024, America picked its favorite breeds. This is Florida Man Tribute number two hundred and thirty-two.
We have been running those tributes for forty-four weeks.
And they are all excellent. Animals — the heron is still on top after twenty-six consecutive hours, and we will tell you what is chasing it.
And A Quick Look at Sports — the Department of Homeland Security now says the noncitizen voter numbers it announced last week were inflated. We will tell you by how much.
Still ahead tonight on The World Desk — two women hurt in that pursuit crash, and one of them is fighting for her life in a Wexler County hospital. We begin there in just a moment.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We have updates on three stories we brought you earlier, and one of them moved significantly in the last hour.
That's the trip to Moscow.
It is. We'll start there.
The director of the Central Intelligence Agency traveled to Moscow this week for unannounced talks. Multiple American news outlets are now confirming that. Flight tracking data shows an American military aircraft made the trip from the United States to Russia via Latvia on Tuesday.
That's the first confirmed visit by a senior American intelligence official to Russia since the invasion began.
It is. And the timing is significant. No details yet on what was discussed.
Also overseas, Sweden's military is moving ahead with that request we told you about this afternoon. They want to seize a Russian-owned estate near Muskö Naval Base. The armed forces cite what they call a direct threat from Russian drones operating near the site.
Muskö. That's where Sweden keeps its submarine fleet.
That's correct. And the military says surveillance activity in that area has increased sharply over the last eighteen months.
The estate sits right on the water there.
It does. About two miles from the base perimeter. Swedish courts will make the final decision on seizure.
Back to the United States. A federal judge in New York has rejected what she called a frivolous appeal from Ghislaine Maxwell. The former Jeffrey Epstein accomplice loses her latest effort to be released from prison. This is her third attempt to overturn the conviction.
How much longer does she have on the sentence?
She was sentenced to twenty years in 2022. She'll be eligible for release in her late seventies.
And we want to revisit something we brought you this morning. Dolly Parton died yesterday at eighty. Her team confirmed it on social media. And the BBC has posted a 1979 interview with her that is worth your time if you didn't grow up knowing who she was.
She talked candidly about growing up poor in rural Tennessee. About her family. About the determination it took to get from there to international stardom. She said they used flour for face powder because that's what they had.
She never forgot where she came from.
No. And she spent most of her life giving back to people who grew up the way she did.
We have more tributes posted on our site. People have been sending them in all day.
They have. And we're reading every one of them.
If you're watching us on YouTube, a subscription costs you nothing and it makes a real difference to a station this size.
We're glad you're here.
Coming up in just a few minutes, we have an update on a case that has been working its way through the courts for more than two years. The judge made a ruling late this afternoon and it changes the timeline significantly.
That's Criminal Intent, still ahead on KRAK 11 News.
We'll be right back.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Welcome to the Blotter.
Tonight we have a man who found the finest accommodations in St. Petersburg. No reservation required.
A luxury suite with leather seating and air conditioning.
We begin tonight with a Florida Man Tribute from back in August of twenty-twenty. St. Petersburg police found a homeless man living in a luxury suite at Al Lang Stadium for nearly two weeks.
Police said he somehow gained access to the stadium and made himself at home in the suite, which is typically reserved for corporate sponsors and high-dollar ticket holders.
Authorities believe the suspect entered through an unlocked door and chose the luxury suite based on its amenities, which included leather seating, air conditioning, and a private restroom.
He was charged with trespassing.
Back in November of twenty-twenty-four, a car plummeted several floors from a parking area at a Guatemala City mall, killing a twenty-two-year-old kiosk worker.
Authorities said the driver lost control and crashed through a barrier. The investigation is ongoing.
Also back in November of twenty-twenty-four, Sotheby's in New York sold a banana duct-taped to a wall for more than a million dollars.
The piece was created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and originally debuted at Art Basel Miami Beach in twenty-nineteen, where it sold for a hundred and twenty thousand dollars.
The buyer receives a certificate of authenticity and instructions on how to replace the banana when it rots.
You could buy a quarter million bananas at the grocery store for that price.
But they would not come with instructions.
That is two hundred and thirty-three Florida Man Tributes in forty-four weeks.
We have been doing this a long time.
Eleven years this November.
Still ahead tonight, ANIMALS. A heron fighting for its life, and the fisherman who found it in time.
That story has now led our countdown for twenty-six consecutive hours.
We will have the numbers when we come back.
ANIMALS
Good evening. It is time now for Animals, the good news desk.
We count down the three videos the world watched today.
Number three is still number three.
It is a very stable count tonight.
Number three: one hundred and twenty pounds of dog, hiding from ice, behind a two-year-old.
Posted by Tiny Boss Big Dog on the twentieth. Four million nine hundred and seventy-seven thousand new views in the last four days.
Number two. When Kindness Goes Both Ways.
Posted by Windypaws. Eight million four hundred and forty-two thousand new views in the last four days.
And number one, for the twenty-sixth consecutive hour on this count: Fisherman Found This Heron Fighting For Its Life.
Posted by Sassy on the twenty-first. Eleven million ninety-nine thousand new views in four days. Fourteen million eight hundred thousand total.
Twenty-six hours.
All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. The link is in the description.

Still ahead tonight: a quick look at sports. The Cubs beat the White Sox three to two on Sunday. The man who delivered that walk-off had never faced the White Sox before in his life.
First career at-bat against them. More in a moment.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
Chess, baseball, and college football. Three very different results, all of them decisive.
You have been looking forward to this.
Magnus Carlsen has done it again. Twenty-two consecutive Esports World Cup chess titles, unbeaten since the tournament began. The man is untouchable.
Pete Crow-Armstrong made history at Wrigley. First Cub ever to record a walk-off hit in his first career at-bat against the White Sox. Cubs three, White Sox two.
Ohio State opens preseason ranked number four in the Yahoo Sports college football top twenty-five. The Buckeyes are looking to beat Michigan and win the playoff both.
Coming up at the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News - we'll have the latest on Canada's retaliatory tariffs and what they mean for Wexler County manufacturers.
