KRAK 11 NEWS
Good afternoon. It's three o'clock, you are watching KRAK 11 News, and this is the lineup. We begin this hour with The World Desk — a man dies after a police pursuit ends in a crash, and two women remain hospitalized.
Then Criminal Intent — the Department of Homeland Security admits the numbers it used to claim a quarter million noncitizens were on voter rolls were wrong. Followed by Animals — the heron video is still number one after twenty-three straight hours.
And we close with A Quick Look at Sports. That's the hour. All of it, right here on KRAK 11.
Twenty-three hours is a very long time for a heron.
It has earned it. Coming up in just a few minutes on The World Desk — one woman remains in critical condition after that crash, and authorities are still investigating exactly what happened during the pursuit.
That's next on KRAK 11 News.
THE WORLD DESK
Good afternoon. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We have updates from France, Sweden, and the English Premier League this hour.
How many countries is that?
Three.
We begin with an update from France, where cleanup continues after Tuesday's tornado. The south-western village of Pomas was hardest hit. Hundreds of homes damaged. Fifteen people were taken to hospital.
French authorities say the path of destruction was more than a mile long. Power has been restored to most of the affected area, and roads are reopening as crews clear debris.
One update on that story we told you about earlier. In Sweden, the military is moving forward with its request to seize that Russian-owned estate near Muskö Naval Base.
The armed forces say Russian drones have been spotted in the area and the property poses a security threat. The government is expected to rule on the seizure in the next few weeks.
That base is on the coast of Denmark, isn't it?
Sweden.
Stockholm is in Denmark.
Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. The base is south of Stockholm on an island in the Baltic Sea.
I think we are saying the same thing.
We are not.
English Premier League football now, and Nottingham Forest has agreed to a deal worth around fifty million pounds to sign striker Liam Delap from Chelsea.
Delap is twenty-one years old and scored thirteen goals for Ipswich Town last season on loan. Forest is currently eighth in the table.
Fifty million pounds is a lot of money for a twenty-one-year-old.
It is. Chelsea values him highly, and Forest clearly does as well.
How much is that in dollars?
Sixty-two million, give or take.
In darts, Luke Littler's run at the twenty-seventh Players Championship of the year came to an end in the quarter-finals. He lost to Jermaine Wattimena.
Littler is seventeen years old and has been one of the most talked-about players in professional darts this year.
He has. Wattimena moves on to the semi-finals.
If you are watching this on YouTube, we would appreciate a subscribe. Costs you nothing, and it helps a station this size keep doing what we do.
We are glad you turned up.
And one more update from the United Kingdom. That crash we told you about this morning after a police pursuit. One of the two women injured remains in critical condition.
The man who died was driving the vehicle. Police have not released his name.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating.
That is the news from overseas this hour. Chip, what do we have next?
Coming up in just a few minutes, we have something you are going to want to see on Criminal Intent.
A case that started with one phone call and ended with a door coming off its hinges.
We will have that story when we come back.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good afternoon. This is KRAK 11 News, and it is time for the Blotter.
We have four Florida Man Tributes for you this afternoon, and one of them involves a burglary suspect who brought a companion to the scene.
I have read the police report three times and it does not get less strange.
This is our two hundred and twenty-seventh Florida Man Tribute.
Back in August of 2024, Clemson, South Carolina police released surveillance video showing a burglary suspect attempting to break into a home while carrying a small dog under one arm.
Police said the suspect attempted to force entry through a rear door while holding what appeared to be a Chihuahua or similar breed.
The suspect was unsuccessful. The dog was unharmed. No arrests have been made.
Police asked anyone with information to contact Clemson Police or Crimestoppers.
That is person-of-interest detail I have not seen in sixteen years at this desk.
Also back in August of 2024, the University of New England welcomed a rare orange lobster named Peaches, a one-in-thirty-million find.
Recently, Peaches gave birth to more orange lobsters.
So the odds just got better.
University researchers said the hatchlings are being studied to understand the genetic trait that produces the coloration.
Also back in August, a mother of twin girls told Fox Thirteen that she absolutely believes twins have a connection beyond the normal sibling connection.
Adrea Garza was speaking to Fox about what parents and experts call twin telepathy. Her daughters are seven years old and fraternal twins.
She said they finish each other's sentences and sometimes cry at the same time for no apparent reason.
Experts told Fox that while there is no scientific evidence for telepathy, twins do share unique emotional bonds formed in early development.
And back in May of 2024, construction resumed on what will be the world's tallest building.
Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia will stand thirty-two hundred and eighty feet when completed. That is taller than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, currently the tallest structure in the world.
Construction had been halted for years due to financing issues.
Coming up on KRAK 11, Fisherman Found This Heron Fighting For Its Life has now led the animal countdown for twenty-three consecutive hours.
We will have the full top five when we come back.
ANIMALS
Time now for the Good News Desk.
This is the KRAK 11 animal countdown. Three videos ranked by how many views each one has gained in the last four days.
We count by growth, not by total. That is why our order does not match YouTube's trending chart and we are fine with that.
We are very fine with that.
Number three this afternoon is a video called 120 Pounds of Dog, Hiding From Ice, Behind a Two-Year-Old. Posted by Tiny Boss Big Dog. Four million seven hundred and eighty-seven thousand new views in four days.
One hundred and twenty pounds.
Behind a toddler.
Number two is a video called When Kindness Goes Both Ways. Posted by Windypaws. Eight million three hundred and fifty-four thousand new views in the last four days. It has held number two for three consecutive counts.
And number one this afternoon is a video called Fisherman Found This Heron Fighting For Its Life. Posted by Sassy. Ten million eight hundred and fifteen thousand new views in four days.
That video has now led the KRAK 11 animal countdown for twenty-four consecutive hours.
Ten million people in four days.
It is a lot of people.
All three videos are on the KRAK 11 News Reel and the link is in the description.
Coming up this afternoon, a quick look at sports. Luke Littler is out of the Players Championship and the man who beat him is headed to the semi-finals.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
I have good news for anyone who enjoys watching someone be the absolute best at what they do.
That would be Magnus Carlsen.
The Norwegian defended his chess title at the twenty twenty-six Esports World Cup this afternoon, extending his winning streak to twenty consecutive titles without a single loss since the tournament began.
Twenty straight. That is a dynasty.
In college football, Ohio State remains at number four in Yahoo Sports' preseason top twenty-five. The Buckeyes are looking to beat Michigan and take the playoff this year.
And in Formula One, Honda has admitted it only realized the full scale of its problems in January — eight months into the season. That is a very long time to be driving in the wrong direction.
Still ahead — the next KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour. We will have more from Wexler County and the stories people are talking about this afternoon.
That is sports. We will see you at four.
