KRAK 11 NEWS
Good afternoon. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. It's two o'clock in Wexler County. This hour on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk, where President Trump says all mines have been cleared from the Strait of Hormuz.
Criminal Intent — our two hundred and twenty-third Florida Man Tribute. A fish tank, a death in Warren, and a question police could not answer back in August of twenty twenty-four.
Animals — a heron, a fisherman, and the video that has now led our countdown for twenty-three consecutive hours.
And A Quick Look at Sports, where six states are voting on voter ID this year.
That is not sports.
It is ballot measures.
Still ahead this afternoon — The World Desk, where Iran has kept the waterway closed since the beginning of the conflict, and oil prices have been swinging ever since.
That story in two minutes on KRAK 11 News.
THE WORLD DESK
Good afternoon. You are watching KRAK 11 News. I am Chip Marlowe.
And I am Deb Sarkissian. We have quite a bit from overseas this afternoon.
Sweden, Nevada, the United Kingdom, and a flight to Moscow that took the scenic route.
Let us start in northern Europe.
Sweden's military is formally requesting the government seize a Russian-owned estate near one of its most important naval installations. The armed forces say Russian drones have been spotted in the area and the property near Muskö Naval Base poses a security threat.
Muskö is on an island off the coast of Denmark.
It is off the coast of Sweden. About twenty miles south of Stockholm.
Which is in Denmark.
Stockholm is the capital of Sweden.
I know that. I am saying the naval base is near Denmark, which it is.
It is near Sweden. It is in Sweden.
We agree on the important part. Russian drones, Swedish military response.
We do agree on that.
From the United Kingdom now. Warwickshire Police are investigating a crash that killed a man and left a woman critically injured. The collision happened after a pursuit involving a police vehicle.
Warwickshire is in central England. The department has referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which is standard practice when a pursuit ends in serious injury or death.
No further details have been released at this time. We will update you as more information becomes available.
An update now on a story we brought you earlier about brain disease in former professional football players. Researchers say at least one in four former NFL players who died between twenty sixteen and twenty twenty-one had chronic traumatic encephalopathy. That is CTE.
The study says the true figure could be much higher. CTE is a degenerative brain disease associated with repeated head trauma. It can only be diagnosed after death.
This is new data on something the league has been studying for more than a decade.
It is. And the numbers keep climbing.
They do.
One more from overseas. Multiple American news outlets are reporting that the director of the Central Intelligence Agency made an unannounced trip to Moscow this week for talks. We told you about this earlier. Flight tracking data now confirms the trip.
An American military aircraft traveled from the United States to Russia via Latvia on Tuesday. That flight path has now been independently verified.
Latvia is on the way to Russia.
It is a stopover. Standard procedure for a flight that long.
Latvia is between where the plane started and where it ended up.
That is what I said.
You did.

It costs you nothing and it helps us quite a bit.
Still ahead this afternoon on KRAK 11 News, Criminal Intent. A case that has been in the courts for more than a year, and this week there is finally movement.
Prosecutors are arguing the defendants are a flight risk and should remain in custody. We will have the latest in a few minutes.
You are watching KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good afternoon. Welcome to the Blotter.
We have four tributes this afternoon.
Which will bring the station total to two hundred and twenty-six in forty-four weeks.
One of them involves a five-gallon bucket of beans.
We begin this afternoon with Uber's annual Lost and Found index from back in April of last year. Among the items left behind in rideshare vehicles: a urinal, divorce papers, and a five-gallon bucket of beans.
Just the beans. Not the bag they came in.
The bucket itself. Five gallons.
Back in April of last year, a parachutist in Europe was scheduled to deliver the match ball before kickoff. He ended up dangling from the stadium roof for seventeen minutes.
The game was delayed. Emergency crews brought him down with a crane.
He was uninjured. The ball did not make it to the pitch.
They used a different ball.
Back in August of 2024, a thirty-nine-year-old man in Warren, Michigan was found deceased near a fish tank. Police said investigators are examining whether the aquarium is connected to his death.
Prosecutors said no charges have been filed. The cause of death has not been released.
And back in April of last year, eleven nurses working on the same floor of a Massachusetts hospital reported brain tumors or related health issues.
All eleven worked in the labor and delivery unit at Mass General Brigham Newton-Wellesley Hospital. The hospital said it is cooperating with state health officials.
No environmental cause has been confirmed.
That is four Florida Man Tributes in one segment.
Which brings the station total to two hundred and twenty-six in forty-four weeks.
Still ahead this afternoon on KRAK 11 - a heron that has now led our animal countdown for twenty-three consecutive hours, and the view count that explains why.
More than ten million new views in four days.
We will have that for you in a few minutes.
ANIMALS
This is the Good News Desk.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown ranks videos by how many views they have gained in the last four days, not by total views.
We count what is moving.
At number three: 120 Pounds of Dog. Hiding From Ice. Behind a Two-Year-Old. Posted by Tiny Boss Big Dog. Four million seven hundred and two thousand new views.
One hundred and twenty pounds of anything does not hide well behind a two-year-old.
It does not.
At number two: When Kindness Goes Both Ways. Posted by Windypaws. Eight million three hundred and three thousand new views in the last four days.
And at number one, unchanged for twenty-three consecutive hours: Fisherman Found This Heron Fighting For Its Life. Posted by Sassy. Ten million five hundred and ninety-two thousand new views.
Twenty-three hours.
That is the whole day.
All three of those videos are on the KRAK 11 News Reel, and the link is in the description.
If you are watching on YouTube and you would like to help a station our size, subscribing costs you nothing and it means the world to us.
Still ahead this afternoon: a quick look at sports, and something from the Cubs-White Sox game that I have been waiting all day to tell you about.
A walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. We will be right back.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
You have that look.
What look?
The look you get when Magnus Carlsen has won something.
Magnus Carlsen has won his nineteenth consecutive title at the Esports World Cup. He remains unbeaten in the tournament since it began.
Nineteen in a row.
College football — Ohio State stays at number four in Yahoo Sports' preseason top twenty-five. The Buckeyes are looking to beat Michigan and win the playoff this year.
Formula One — Honda admitted this week it only realized the full scale of its problems in January. That was eight months into the season.
That is eight months of not knowing.
Coming up at the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News — breaking news, the world desk, and Marguerite has called again.
Thank you for watching.
