And A Quick Look at Sports. Several states will decide voter ID ballot measures this year including three prominent swing states and we will tell you which ones.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, the CIA director in Moscow and what flight tracking data confirms about how he got there. That is coming up in a few minutes on The World Desk.
We start this afternoon with that story.
THE WORLD DESK
Good afternoon. This is KRAK 11 News.
Top of the hour in Wexler County. We have breaking news from the Persian Gulf, updates on the wildfire outside Reno, and Chip has a theory about peninsulas.
I do not have a theory. I have an observation.
We will see. Let us start with Washington.
President Trump says all mines have been cleared from the Strait of Hormuz. Iran closed the vital waterway at the start of the conflict, causing wild fluctuations in oil prices worldwide.
That is the entry to the Arabian Gulf. The waterway sits between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula.
The Strait of Hormuz is the entry to the Persian Gulf. It sits between Iran and Oman, which is on the Arabian Peninsula.
That is what I said.
The strait is twenty-one miles wide at its narrowest point and carries about a fifth of the world's oil supply. The President says the waterway is now clear and vessels can resume passage.
We are monitoring that story and will bring you updates as they come in.
An update now on that wildfire near Reno, where firefighters say the blaze is now about twenty-five percent contained.
Officials say winds could fan the flames for at least two more days. Many residents remain under evacuation orders. Crews have been working around the clock and no injuries have been reported.
Twenty-one miles. That is the size of Wexler County east to west.
What is?
The Strait of Hormuz at its narrowest point. A fifth of the world's oil goes through a channel the width of this county.
That is why it matters so much.
You could stand on one side and see the other side on a clear day.
If you were standing in the water, yes.
If you are watching on YouTube and you appreciate what we do here, a subscription helps. This is a small station and it genuinely makes a difference.
We have been doing this desk together for ten years now and we read every comment that comes in. Tell us what you think.
I answer more than she does.
You answer at four in the morning.
The news does not sleep, Deb.
Still ahead this afternoon on KRAK 11 News, a story about loyalty, betrayal, and a very determined raccoon. That is Criminal Intent, and it is next.
Marguerite called again.
Of course she did.
We are on it.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good afternoon. Time now for the Blotter.
Four stories today. Three of them involve people making choices.
Bad choices.
Questionable choices.
We begin this afternoon with another Florida Man Tribute. Back in August of twenty twenty-four, a woman in Redford, Michigan was caught on camera throwing feces toward her neighbor's property.
Police say the woman told them she was frustrated with stray animals defecating on her lawn, which she attributed to neighbors feeding the strays.
So she allegedly decided to return the favor.
That is one way to make a point.
In Ohio, a library book checked out in nineteen twenty-six was returned last March. Ninety-eight years overdue.
Librarians found it at a local branch. No word on the fine.
At compound interest that is a mortgage.
Most libraries cap their late fees, Chip.
Not in nineteen twenty-six they did not.
In Palm Bay, Florida, back in March of last year, a man dressed as a clown was arrested after refusing to leave a shopping plaza despite a previous trespass warning.
Police say officers took the suspect into custody. Video from the scene shows the takedown.
Full makeup. Red nose. The whole operation.
In Phoenix, police and family members are searching for a yoga instructor who went missing back in March of last year after a scheduled blind date.
Marcus Freiberger, forty-five years old, well known in Phoenix's Melrose District. He had been missing for almost a month at the time that story was reported.
Anyone with information was asked to contact Phoenix police.
That is two hundred and twenty-two Florida Man Tributes in forty-four weeks.
Still ahead this afternoon on KRAK 11 - a fisherman found a heron fighting for its life. What happened next has been watched more than ten million times in four days.
Animals, when we return.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown. We rank by how many views a video has gained in the last four days, not its total.
Number one has held for twenty-two hours now.
It has.
Number three this afternoon. A hundred and twenty pounds of dog. Hiding from ice. Behind a two-year-old.
Posted by Tiny Boss Big Dog on the twentieth. Four million six hundred and forty-one thousand three hundred and forty new views.
Number two. When Kindness Goes Both Ways. Posted by Windypaws, also on the twentieth. Eight million two hundred and fifty-nine thousand six hundred and ninety-eight new views.
And number one. Fisherman Found This Heron Fighting For Its Life.
Posted by Sassy on the twenty-first. Ten million four hundred and fourteen thousand six hundred and thirteen new views in the last four days.
It has led our count for twenty-two hours.
All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. The link is in the description.
If you have been watching on YouTube this afternoon, a subscription costs you nothing and it helps a station our size.
We are glad you turned up.
Coming up - a quick look at sports. We will tell you what the county is saying about the new turf at the high school field, and why the work is starting two weeks early.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
Four results today, and one of them is a record that keeps getting longer.
Eighteen straight.
Magnus Carlsen has defended his chess title at the twenty twenty-six Esports World Cup. That is eighteen consecutive wins in that tournament without a single loss since it began.
Pete Crow-Armstrong made history last night in the Cubs' walk-off win over the White Sox. Chicago wins it four to three on a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth.
Yahoo Sports has released its preseason college football top twenty-five. Ohio State comes in at number four as the Buckeyes look to beat Michigan and win the playoff this season.
And Honda admits it only realized the scale of its Formula One problems back in January. The team says they are working through it.
Coming up - the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour. We will have the very latest on the Reno wildfire and the containment efforts underway this afternoon.
That is sports. Thanks for watching.
