KRAK 11 NEWS
Good afternoon. Twelve o'clock in Wexler County, and this is KRAK 11 News. I'm Chip Marlowe.
I'm Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour — the World Desk, where a CIA chief travels to Moscow for unannounced talks and we have confirmation from flight tracking data.
Criminal Intent — a Florida Man tribute from back in February of last year, when seven planets lined up in the sky at once and somebody tried to see all of them.
That one is still a tribute.
Animals — where a fisherman found a heron fighting for its life, and that video has now led our countdown for twenty-one consecutive hours.
And A Quick Look at Sports, where nine years on, the Rohingya crisis enters what aid workers are calling a dangerous phase.
Still ahead this afternoon on the World Desk — why an American military aircraft flew to Russia via Latvia on Tuesday, and what happened when it landed. Deb?
The World Desk is next.
THE WORLD DESK
Good afternoon, Wexler County. You are watching KRAK 11 News.
Welcome back. This is the World Desk.
We are covering six continents this afternoon.
We are. Let us start with Washington. Multiple American news outlets are reporting that the director of the Central Intelligence Agency is in Moscow for unannounced talks.
Flight tracking data confirms an American military aircraft traveled from the United States to Russia via Latvia on Tuesday.
Latvia is on the Baltic coast, bordering Russia to the east.
The eastern side of the Baltic, with open water to Scandinavia.
Latvia shares a land border with Russia, Chip.
Which makes it an efficient stopover.
The White House has not confirmed the visit. The Kremlin has not confirmed the visit. But the aircraft's movements are documented by civilian flight tracking services.
No official comment from either government, but the flight path does not require comment.
A new study on brain disease in former professional football players. Researchers say at least one in four former NFL players who died between twenty sixteen and twenty twenty-one had chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
That is CTE, a degenerative brain condition linked to repeated head trauma. The study says the true figure could be significantly higher, because many families decline autopsies.
The study examined players who died over a five-year period. It adds to the body of research suggesting the long-term risks of professional football may be higher than previously shown.
In the United Kingdom, a new review released this morning shows that young people leaving foster care or state custody have a death rate around four times higher than the national average.
The review examined outcomes for care leavers across the country and found mortality rates significantly elevated compared to the general population of the same age group.
The review is being called a wake-up call for social services departments throughout the United Kingdom.
In Romania, prosecutors are arguing that Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan are a flight risk and should not be released on bail pending trial.
His legal team continues to say prosecutors have exaggerated his wealth and that he did not actually own many of the supercars shown in photographs used as evidence.
Romanian authorities are now considering whether to grant bail. A decision is expected in the coming days.

We are glad you are here.
Deb, how many countries did we just cover?
Five. Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Romania, and Latvia.
I am going to say six because Latvia and Russia are in different time zones.
That is not how countries work.
It is how I am counting them.
Still ahead this afternoon, Criminal Intent. We have updates on three active cases in Wexler County, including an arrest made early this morning in a matter the sheriff's office is calling significant.
That is Criminal Intent, in just a few minutes on KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good afternoon. Time now for the Blotter.
We have four Florida Man Tributes this afternoon, all of them from last year, and every single one of them is strange.
The shark one is my favorite.
We are going to get to the shark. First, back in March of last year, a Pennsylvania homeowner opened their doorbell camera app and found a visitor on their porch wearing a handmade paper mask.
The individual identified themselves on camera as the Box Demon.
That is what they called themselves. The Box Demon. Left a message, walked away. Police say no other incidents were reported and no charges were filed.
Also back in March of last year, three tourists visiting Arizona were pulled over by state troopers who believed the car they were driving had been reported stolen.
The vehicle had been rented through the app Turo, which had been flagged in the state's system. The renters provided documentation and were released. Turo said it was investigating the error.
Back in February of last year, divers off the coast of the Bahamas watched as a shark bit down on an underwater camera and, according to marine biologists, provided extremely rare views of the inside of its mouth.
Scientists say the animal attempted to chew the device before releasing it. The camera survived intact.
That is very good equipment.
It is. I would like to know the manufacturer.
Also back in February of last year, astronomers confirmed a rare seven-planet parade would be visible from Earth, with all seven planets appearing in alignment shortly after sunset on Friday of that week.
Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Neptune, Uranus and Mercury all visible in a single line. Scientists said viewing conditions were excellent across most of the continental United States.
That is four.
KRAK 11 has now aired two hundred and twenty-one Florida Man Tributes in forty-four weeks.
That is the Blotter. Coming up in a few minutes, Animals.
We will tell you which video has now led the countdown for twenty-one consecutive hours, and the gap is getting wider.
It is.
ANIMALS
Good afternoon. Welcome back to KRAK 11 News.
Time now for the KRAK 11 animal countdown.
Three videos, ranked by how many views each one has gained in the last four days.

That video remains at number three, unchanged since the last count.
Number two: When Kindness Goes Both Ways. Posted by Windypaws. Eight million two hundred and five thousand nine hundred and fifty-four new views in the last four days.

If you are watching on YouTube and you have not yet subscribed, it costs you nothing and it helps a station this size considerably.
Still ahead this afternoon: a quick look at sports. Magnus Carlsen is still unbeaten, and Sir Nick Faldo has something to say about humble pie.
We will be right back.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
We have got chess, we have got baseball, and Ohio State looking very good on paper.
You love it when Ohio State looks good on paper.
Magnus Carlsen has now won seventeen consecutive Esports World Cup chess titles and remains unbeaten in the tournament since it began. The man is still perfect.
The Cubs beat the White Sox six to five on a Pete Crow-Armstrong walk-off. History was made. The crowd went home very happy.
Ohio State is ranked number four in Yahoo Sports' preseason college football top twenty-five. They are looking to beat Michigan and win the playoff.
That is the scoreboard. Still ahead this afternoon - the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour, and we will see you then.
