KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. I am Chip Marlowe. This is KRAK 11 News at ten o'clock. Coming up this hour: new research on brain disease in former professional football players, and the numbers are troubling.
A postcard mailed in nineteen oh-three finally arrives at its destination. We will have that story a little later this morning.
Animals brings you the heron rescue video that has now led our countdown for nineteen straight hours.
Nineteen hours is a very long time to watch a heron.
And A Quick Look at Sports: Andrew Tate's lawyers say he rented those cars to look wealthy online. That is coming up in just a few minutes on the World Desk.
Let's begin.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. You are watching KRAK 11 News at ten o'clock.
Chip, we have updates from Reno, from Romania, from New York, and from Beijing this morning.
That is a lot of hemisphere.
It is. Let us start with that wildfire outside Reno, where firefighters say the blaze is now about a quarter contained.
Reno is on the Nevada side of the Sierras.
The eastern side, in a valley on the eastern slope of the range. But officials say winds could keep fanning the flames for two more days, and many residents remain under evacuation orders.
A quarter contained is progress. Two more days of wind is the problem.
It is. We will stay on it.
To Romania now, where lawyers for Andrew Tate say prosecutors have exaggerated the influencer's wealth, and that he did not actually own many of the supercars shown in photographs.
So he is saying the cars in the photos were not his cars.
That is the argument his legal team is making. Prosecutors say Tate and his brother Tristan are a flight risk and should not be released on bail.
Does Romania have an extradition treaty with countries that like supercars?
Romania has extradition treaties with most of Europe and the United States. The question before the court is whether he should be granted bail while facing charges of human trafficking and organized crime.
Also this morning, a judge in New York has rejected Ghislaine Maxwell's latest effort to overturn her conviction. The former Jeffrey Epstein accomplice loses what the court called a frivolous appeal.
When a federal judge uses the word frivolous, that is the end of the road.
It is. Maxwell is serving a twenty-year sentence at a federal facility in Florida. This was her latest attempt to be released, and the court was not persuaded.
Now to the eastern hemisphere, where China is pushing back hard on what it calls illegal American sanctions targeting countries that continue to trade with Iran.
The United States has threatened to isolate nations that keep doing business with Tehran. China imports close to ninety percent of Iran's crude oil exports, roughly a million barrels a day.
That is most of Iran's oil revenue going to one buyer.
It is. Beijing says the sanctions are unilateral and have no basis in international law. The State Department says they are in response to Iran's continued nuclear activity and support for regional militias.
If you are watching us on YouTube this morning, we would appreciate it if you subscribed. It costs you nothing and it helps a station this size a great deal.
And tell us what you think in the comments. We read them, and we answer them as well.
Coming up in just a few minutes, Criminal Intent.
We have a theft from a Detroit senior facility that happened back in April of last year, an ATM heist in Fort Worth on Christmas Eve, and a misspelling on a police banner in Shelby Township that people are still talking about.
That is Criminal Intent, coming up next on KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning. It is ten o'clock in Wexler County and you are watching KRAK 11 News.
Time now for the blotter, and this morning we continue our Florida Man Tribute series with four cases that prove brilliance and law enforcement rarely occupy the same ZIP code.
Two hundred and fourteen so far.
And climbing. We begin in Wales, where back in August of 2024, a delivery company discovered a postcard in the mail dated nineteen-oh-three. One hundred and twenty-one years late.
That is not a late delivery. That is archaeology.
The message on the card was obscure. The recipient has been dead for ninety years. And the postal service had no comment on what took so long.
I assume they checked behind the radiator.
Also back in April of 2024, a Florida city facing a cemetery space shortage considered converting underused schools into burial sites by twenty twenty-five.
Local officials supported the plan. The phrase eternal detention was not used in the proposal but it was very much implied.
Officials said the proposal was backed by community leaders.
In China, also back in April of 2024, paleontologists discovered what they are calling the largest raptor footprints ever found. Five prints, each one bigger than the last.
Lead researcher Scott Persons told FOX he was flabbergasted. The prints suggest a predator significantly larger than anything previously on record.
He said flabbergasted.
It is a good word.
And finally, back in April of 2024, a company in the United States began selling a flame-throwing robotic dog. The device can shoot fire streams up to thirty feet with the push of a button.
Thirty feet.
The contraption is equipped with the ARC Flamethrower and is available for purchase to the general public. No permit required in most states.
That is not a pet. That is a war crime with a tail.
And that brings KRAK 11's Florida Man Tribute count to two hundred and eighteen cases in forty-four weeks.
Coming up in just a few minutes: a heron fighting for its life remains at number one for the nineteenth consecutive hour. Animals is next.
You are watching KRAK 11 News.
ANIMALS
This is the Good News Desk.
Time now for the KRAK 11 animal countdown — three videos that gained the most views in the last four days.
Nineteen hours at number one.
Number three this hour is a video called 120 Pounds of Dog. Hiding From Ice. Behind a Two-Year-Old. Posted by Tiny Boss Big Dog. Four million four hundred and sixty-eight thousand nine hundred and twenty-five new views.
That title is very specific.
It is unchanged since the last count. YouTube has it at number eleven on their own trending chart.
Number two is When Kindness Goes Both Ways. Posted by Windypaws on the twentieth of August. Eight million one hundred and eighteen thousand and ninety-six new views in four days. Also unchanged since our last count.
And number one this hour, for the nineteenth consecutive hour, is Fisherman Found This Heron Fighting For Its Life. Posted by Sassy on the twenty-first of August.
Nine million eight hundred and twenty thousand seven hundred and thirty new views in the last four days.
All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel and the link is in the description.
Still ahead this morning, a quick look at sports — and we have news about a wildcat that nobody expected to see swimming.
First recorded sighting of its kind in Scotland.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
Magnus Carlsen is still winning chess tournaments.
You say that like it is surprising.
Magnus Carlsen has won his sixteenth consecutive Esports World Cup chess title. Still unbeaten in the tournament since it began.
Baseball. Pete Crow-Armstrong made history in the Cubs' walk-off win over the White Sox. The Cubs take it six to five.
And in college football, Yahoo Sports has released their preseason top twenty-five. Ohio State is ranked number four.
Coming up at the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News - breaking developments from Wexler County. That is next.
Thank you for watching.
