KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning, Wexler County. Six o'clock. KRAK 11 News. I'm Chip Marlowe.
I'm Deb Sarkissian. We have a full hour this morning. The World Desk — a man has died following a pursuit that ended in a crash in Warwickshire.
Criminal Intent — back in January of last year, two broken pipes turned a Detroit warehouse into something you need to see to believe. A KRAK 11 Florida Man Tribute.
Animals — a fisherman found a heron fighting for its life, and nine million people watched what happened next. That story has led our countdown for fifteen straight hours.
And A Quick Look at Sports — new research on former NFL players who died between twenty-sixteen and twenty-twenty-one, and the findings are sobering.
That is quite a sports segment.
It is what it is, Deb. The World Desk is coming up in just a few minutes on KRAK 11 News, and we start there.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. Six o'clock here in Wexler County. I'm Chip Marlowe.
I'm Deb Sarkissian. You were here at four-thirty.
Preparation, Deb.
The building was still locked.
We begin this hour with news from the United Kingdom, where a man has died following a crash after a pursuit involving a police car in Warwickshire.
A woman was also critically injured in the collision. Warwickshire Police confirmed the incident near Stratford and have referred the matter to their standards office.
That's in the West Midlands.
It's in Warwickshire, which is in the West Midlands region, yes.
I said that.
You did.
Also from the United Kingdom this morning, the rugby league world is mourning the loss of Sir Billy Boston, who has died at the age of ninety-two.
Boston, born in Cardiff in nineteen thirty-four, became the first player in rugby league's one-hundred-and-thirty-year history to receive a knighthood. That was last year.
He played winger for Wales.
He was born in Wales. He played most of his career for Wigan in the English league.
Which is in Wales.
Wigan is in England. Greater Manchester.
Close to the border.
Not especially.
An update now to a story we brought you earlier. California authorities have released additional details about the French tourist who died in Death Valley last week.
The sixty-eight-year-old man's vehicle became stuck in the salt flats during extreme heat. Officials now say rescue teams were delayed by nearly four hours due to the terrain.
Air temperature at the time was one hundred and sixteen degrees Fahrenheit. Ground temperature was estimated at one hundred and forty.
The National Park Service is reviewing rescue protocols for that area of the flats.
And we have a casting update this morning for anyone following the Harry Potter series on HBO.
Kit Harington is now set to play Gilderoy Lockhart after Nicholas Hoult withdrew from the role. This happened very quickly.
Hoult was announced two weeks ago.
Correct. The studio says it was a scheduling conflict and Harington was already their second choice. Production starts in June.
Gilderoy Lockhart is from Scotland.
I have not read the books.
He teaches at Hogwarts, which is also in Scotland.
That one I knew.

Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News, a story we have been following since late last night.
Three arrests, two counties, and a chase that ended in a cornfield. Criminal Intent is next.
You are watching KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning. This is the KRAK 11 Blotter.
Two hundred and eleven Florida Man Tributes in forty-four weeks.
We have four more this morning. Two of them involve vehicles behaving in ways vehicles should not behave.
And one of them involves a building that turned into a thirty-foot wall of ice.
Back in January of last year, two pipes burst at a warehouse in Detroit. The water did not just flood the building. It froze the entire side of the structure into a thirty-foot wall of solid ice.
Firefighters had to bring in special equipment just to chip their way inside. The building looked like something out of a fantasy novel.
Nobody was hurt, but the structure was a total loss. You cannot operate a warehouse when one entire wall is made of ice.
Also back in November of last year, a woman in Detroit jumped into the Detroit River to rescue a dog that was drowning. Police said she succeeded in saving the animal, and then arrested her.
For what?
Public intoxication. Officers said her heroism involved a lot of liquid courage and very little judgment.
The dog was fine. The woman spent the night in custody.
In Dearborn, also back in November, police said a suspect tried to escape in a stolen vehicle by driving in reverse for more than half a mile.
The vehicle had Florida plates. The suspect kept reversing through residential streets at twenty miles an hour until officers boxed him in.
Prosecutors charged him with receiving and concealing stolen property, fleeing and eluding, and reckless driving.
Reckless driving in reverse. That is a first for this desk.
And back in September of last year, a rare weather event lit up the sky over Puerto Rico. Scientists call it a gigantic jet.
It looks like red lightning shooting upward from the top of a thunderstorm into space. The bolt reached more than fifty miles into the atmosphere.
Researchers say these events happen only a few dozen times a year worldwide, and most of them go unrecorded.
That is two hundred and eleven Florida Man Tributes in forty-four weeks.
Coming up this morning on KRAK 11 News, Fisherman Found This Heron Fighting For Its Life is still holding the top spot after fifteen consecutive hours.
The lead has widened. We will have the full countdown and the new view totals in ANIMALS in just a few minutes.
ANIMALS
Time now for the Good News Desk.
Three videos from the KRAK 11 animal countdown, which ranks by how many new views a video has gained in the last four days.
The heron video has now led for fifteen consecutive hours.
We will count down from three.
At number three: one-twenty pounds of dog, hiding from ice, behind a two-year-old. Posted by Tiny Boss Big Dog. Four million two hundred and ten thousand new views.
One hundred and twenty pounds.
Behind a two-year-old.

And number one, leading the countdown for fifteen consecutive hours now: fisherman found this heron fighting for its life.

All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel, and the link is in the description.

Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News: a Quick Look at Sports, and Pete Crow-Armstrong is still the only Cubs player in nearly fifty years to do what he did last night.
First walk-off cycle since nineteen seventy-six.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at the Scoreboard.
Four results this morning.
And one of them is very good.
Magnus Carlsen has defended his chess title at the Esports World Cup. That is twelve consecutive wins in the tournament. Still unbeaten since it began.
Pete Crow-Armstrong made history for the Cubs yesterday. Hit for the cycle in a walk-off game against the White Sox. First Cubs player to do that since nineteen seventy-six.
And Yahoo Sports has released their preseason college football Top Twenty-Five. Ohio State comes in at number four.
That is the Scoreboard. Still ahead this morning — the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour.
Good morning, Wexler County. We are glad you are here.
