KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. This is KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour, five o'clock in Wexler County. I am Chip Marlowe.
And I am Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this morning on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk, where Iran says it is fully prepared to counter the economic sanctions the United States announced last week.
Criminal Intent brings you our two hundred and ninth Florida Man Tribute. This one happened back in July of last year, and it involves an ax and a very patient bank teller.
Animals. The heron fighting for its life has now led our countdown for fourteen consecutive hours.
Fourteen hours is a long time to be number one.
And A Quick Look at Sports, where a professional soccer team owner was arrested in a prostitution sting at a trailer park. We will have those details in a few minutes.
The World Desk is next.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning, Wexler County. It is five o'clock.
We have England, France, and a very large number from Chelsea.
That is a soccer team.
It is a very expensive soccer team.
We begin this hour with English football, and the Premier League transfer window closes in one week.
Clubs across England's top division are assessing what positions still need reinforcement before the August thirty-first deadline.
That is the championship finals in August.
That is the end of the summer transfer window. The season runs September to May.
Right. Before the finals.
Among the clubs still active in the market, Manchester United is looking to strengthen their defensive midfield, while Arsenal continues its search for a striker.
Chelsea, which has already spent more than two hundred million pounds this summer, is still considering additional signings in multiple positions.
Two hundred million pounds is roughly what, a quarter billion dollars?
Two hundred and fifty-eight million. On players.
For one team.
For one team, in one summer, and they are still shopping.
That is half the gross domestic product of Portugal.
Portugal's GDP is roughly two hundred and fifty-five billion dollars.
I was rounding.
You were off by a factor of one thousand.
Still a lot of money.
It is a lot of money.
From France this morning, cleanup continues after a tornado tore through villages in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region yesterday afternoon.
More than forty people were injured. Several homes destroyed. Authorities say the twister touched down near Pau and remained on the ground for approximately six minutes.
France does not get a lot of tornadoes.
About twenty to thirty per year, on average. Most of them are weak. This one was not.
Emergency crews are still assessing the full extent of the damage, and local officials have opened temporary shelters for residents whose homes were affected.

We read the comments. We answer them, too.
I read more of them than she does.
You read them at four in the morning because you arrive at four in the morning.
Preparation, Deb.
I know.
Still ahead this morning, Criminal Intent. A Florida man tried to buy a car with a check that had someone else's name on it.
Not his name.
Not his name. Not even close to his name.
We will explain in a few minutes.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning, Wexler County. Time now for Criminal Intent.
We have another round of Florida Man Tributes this morning.
Four of them. All from last year or early this year, and all of them real.
We lead with the ax.
We begin this morning with a Florida Man Tribute from back in July of last year. A man walked into a PNC bank in Southfield, Michigan carrying an ax.
Not for banking.
Not for banking. Police say he made demands for cash and attacked a clerk before fleeing the branch on foot. Detectives are still seeking the person of interest.
Police say.
Police say. That is Florida Man Tribute number two hundred and ten in forty-four weeks.
Also back in March 2024, doctors treated a woman for kidney damage after she visited a hair salon. The injury is believed to have been caused by topical glyoxylic acid.
That is an acid used in some straightening treatments. Physicians say absorption through the scalp can damage the kidneys in rare cases.
Also in March 2024, a woman in South America was hospitalized after swallowing a nail that had somehow ended up in her packet of pork rinds.
Doctors removed the nail and she recovered.
And in better news from that same month, a two-headed snake named Tiger-Lily successfully completed surgery in Missouri and is now continuing a tour of the state.
Tiger-Lily was found in Missouri back in 2017 and has been on tour ever since. The surgery was described as routine.
How do you define routine for a two-headed snake?
I assume both heads have to agree to the anesthetic.

Still ahead this morning - a quick look at sports. Magnus Carlsen is still unbeaten in the Esports World Cup.
We will be right back.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.

The man does not lose.
Magnus Carlsen has now won eleven consecutive Esports World Cup chess titles and remains unbeaten in the tournament since it began. He defended the crown in Barcelona this morning, beating his closest rival in four straight games.
Ohio State is now ranked number four in Yahoo Sports' Preseason College Football Top 25. The Buckeyes open the season September second against Akron.
Pete Crow-Armstrong remains the first Cubs player to hit for the cycle in a walk-off game since nineteen seventy-six. Chicago beat the White Sox five to four.
Still ahead this morning - the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour. We will have the latest on that storm system moving through the county, and I have a story about a very determined raccoon.
Marguerite believes it is a third raccoon.
