KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening, Wexler County. Nineteen hundred hours. I am Chip Marlowe.
And I am Deb Sarkissian. This hour on KRAK 11 News: a man charged with murder after a west London house fire kills one woman and injures eight others. The World Desk has the full details.
In Criminal Intent: a Florida tribute that is seven months in the making. Back in January of this year, Michigan state police had to track down a runaway donkey before she made it to the freeway.
I would watch that for an hour.
In Animals: the heron rescue video has now led our countdown for three straight hours. Eight million new views in four days. And in Sports: U.S. Navy families evacuated from Bahrain six months ago still do not know when they are going home.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk begins with the west London fire investigation, and the charges filed this morning. That is next.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening. You are watching KRAK 11 News.
Good evening.
I have my notes organized by continent.
That is very helpful, Chip.
We begin with escalating trade tensions between the United States and Canada. President Trump is threatening new tariffs on automobiles after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney vowed to retaliate against existing trade measures.
This is about the free trade agreement. The NAFTA.
It has been called the USMCA since twenty-twenty, Chip. The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
I remember when they changed it.
Carney accused the White House of wanting to destroy Canada's auto industry. He said Ottawa would only resume negotiations if the United States comes with what he called the right attitude.
Trade talks between the two countries have been suspended since Thursday.
They have. The Canadian government is preparing retaliatory tariffs on American goods if the auto tariffs take effect.
Still in England. Chelsea won a crucial match today against their west London rivals.
Chelsea beat Fulham two to one. Cole Palmer scored and assisted on Joao Pedro's goal, just as he did earlier this week.
That puts them within striking distance of the title race.
They are still eight points behind Liverpool with a game in hand. But the front three were excellent, Chip. Palmer, Pedro, and Nicolas Jackson all looked sharp.
The defense was solid.
The goalkeeper remains a concern. Robert Sanchez made two errors that could have cost them the match. One analysis describes him as the main obstacle to a genuine title challenge.
But they won.
They did. This time.
New Zealand now. They are banning children from social media.
The government there is introducing legislation to prohibit social media access for anyone under the age of sixteen. This follows a similar ban that Australia has already implemented.
Australia did this last year. It is working.
The law in Australia only passed in November and is not yet being enforced, Chip. Platforms have a year to comply. So we do not yet know if it is working.
But they passed it.
They did. New Zealand's bill faces opposition from members of parliament who believe a ban will not be enforceable and may push young people onto less regulated platforms.
The concern is that kids will find a way around it.
That is the concern. The bill is expected to be debated in parliament next month.

A Wexler County man is facing charges after police say he broke into the same house three times in one week. That story is next on Criminal Intent.
Three times.
The same house, Chip.
We will be right back.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Welcome to KRAK 11 News at nineteen hundred hours.
We begin with the hundred and ninety-fourth Florida Man Tribute. This one involves a donkey, an interstate, and a state trooper who did not expect to be working livestock detail.
This happened back in January of this year.
Michigan State Police report that Dolly the donkey escaped from a farm in Holly and was last seen heading toward Interstate Seventy-Five. Officers established a perimeter at Holly Road in hopes of intercepting the suspect before she reached the freeway.
Police said Dolly was safely apprehended and returned to her owner.
No charges were filed. Air support was not deployed.
Moving to Huron Township. Back in February of this year, police video captured a pursuit that started on dirt roads and ended in a landfill. The suspect, prosecutors allege, was armed with nine firearms.
Police say the vehicle fled at high speed, crossed unpaved access roads, and eventually entered an active landfill site before the driver was taken into custody. Nine guns recovered from the vehicle.
Police said nine guns.
In Eastpointe, back in December of last year, a church nativity display raised questions after residents reported live animals outside in freezing temperatures. The display included sheep, goats, and a donkey.
A resident filed a complaint with animal control saying the animals were left outside on December third when temperatures dropped below freezing. The church said the animals were sheltered and only outside for short periods.
Animal control investigated and found no violation. The case was closed without charges.
And a grim note from the Centers for Disease Control. Back in December of last year, a Michigan man died after contracting rabies from a transplanted kidney. The CDC became aware of the case in January of this year.
The CDC says the donor had not been tested for rabies. The recipient developed symptoms and died within weeks. It is believed to be the first documented case of human-to-human rabies transmission through organ transplant in the United States.
The CDC has issued new guidance to transplant centers nationwide. We have that full report on our website.
Deb, two donkeys in one segment.
One on the interstate. One in a manger.
Very different outcomes.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News, Fisherman Found This Heron Fighting For Its Life has now led our animal countdown for three consecutive hours. We will tell you how many new views it gained when ANIMALS comes up next.
That is next.

A quick look at sports.
Four in a row is what I am hearing.
That is what you are about to tell us.
Magnus Carlsen has won his fourth consecutive Esports World Cup chess title, defeating seventeen of the world's best players in straight games to claim another championship in Saudi Arabia.
IndyCar ran its second ever race in Washington D.C. today and Colton Herta took the checkered flag after leading the final forty-two laps through the streets of the nation's capital.
The Cubs beat the White Sox five to four on a walk-off hit by Pete Crow-Armstrong, his first career walk-off and the youngest Cub to do it in franchise history.
And Ohio State is ranked number four in the Yahoo Sports preseason college football poll, with the Buckeyes looking to beat Michigan and make a deep playoff run this season.
Coming up at the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News, we will have the full briefing from the sheriff's office on the Wilson Road fire.
