Rundown
KRAK 11 NEWS
Good afternoon. This is KRAK 11 News at fourteen hundred hours. I'm Chip Marlowe.
I'm Deb Sarkissian. This hour: The World Desk, where the United States treasury secretary says Iran is facing the greatest financial offensive in history.
Criminal Intent — a Florida man arrested back in July of twenty twenty-four for written threats against a presidential candidate and his running mate. That's our one hundred and eighty-second tribute.
You're keeping count.
Animals — the video that has led our countdown for thirty-five hours is still number one, and it's still adding more than two million views a day.
And A Quick Look at Sports, where the football Diego Maradona used to score the most controversial goal in World Cup history has just sold for two and a half million pounds.
Still ahead this afternoon on The World Desk — the treasury secretary says any country doing business with Iran will be cut off from the American financial system. That's in a few minutes on KRAK 11 News.
THE WORLD DESK
Good afternoon. This is THE WORLD DESK.
We have quite a bit to get through this afternoon.
We do. Some of it is difficult, and we are going to take our time with it.
We begin in Nepal, where thousands of protesters have taken to the streets following the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in the capital city of Kathmandu.
The girl went missing last week. Her body was found three days later. The demonstrations have continued daily since then, with protesters demanding justice and stronger protections for children.
Kathmandu is in the northern part of Nepal.
Central. It sits in the central valley, between the Himalayas and the southern plains.
I thought that was the northern part.
Anything feels northern when you are looking at it from the south.
That is a good point.
Turning now to Nevada, where the evacuation zone around the Reno wildfire has been extended again. An additional twelve thousand residents are now under mandatory evacuation orders.
That brings the total to thirty-seven thousand people evacuated from their homes. The fire remains completely uncontained, and authorities say winds have pushed the fire line further south than expected.
That is a large number of people.
It is. For context, the entire population of Fairmont is just under forty-one thousand. So this is nearly the size of our city, leaving their homes with very little notice.
That is helpful.
In climate news, the European Copernicus climate service has confirmed that the world's oceans have reached the highest temperature ever recorded, as the current El Niño weather pattern continues to intensify.
Doctor Samantha Burgess from the service says the record is, quote, another clear signal of an ocean under growing stress, end quote.
El Niño is a warming pattern in the Pacific that affects weather worldwide.
It starts in the Pacific and then affects weather patterns across all the oceans and continents. The warming happens in cycles, typically every two to seven years.
So the Pacific warming causes the Atlantic to warm.
It is more that the Pacific warming changes wind and rainfall patterns, which then affect ocean temperatures everywhere, including the Atlantic.
That is what I said.
And from the Middle East, Israel is warning of what it calls a forceful response to kites being flown into Israeli territory from Gaza.
Several kites have been found in Israeli border communities in recent days. Hamas says the kites were launched by children in Gaza.
Are these the incendiary kites?
The wire does not specify, but in the past kites from Gaza have carried incendiary devices that have started fires in Israeli fields.
Understood.
If you are watching us on YouTube, a subscribe genuinely helps. We are a small station and it costs you nothing.
And tell us what you think down in the comments. We read them, and we answer them.
We do. I answered twelve yesterday.
I answered twenty-six.
At four in the morning.
The news does not sleep, Deb.
Still ahead this afternoon, CRIMINAL INTENT. A story out of Florida that involves a golf cart, a stolen identity, and a county clerk who noticed something was wrong.
That is coming up in just a few minutes on KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good afternoon. Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
We have four stories this hour, all from the great state of Florida. Our one hundred and eighty-third, eighty-fourth, eighty-fifth, and eighty-sixth Florida Man Tributes.
Four in one segment.
It has been a very productive week in the Sunshine State.
We begin with a story from July of last year. A woman at a Florida beach learned the hard way that seagulls do not ask permission before they take your lunch.
The suspect approached at speed, executed what witnesses described as a precision strike, and made off with the entire sandwich. The victim screamed, then gave chase on foot.
The woman told investigators the seagull scared her. She then decided to pursue the bird.
As of this hour the sandwich has not been recovered and the suspect remains at large, possibly somewhere over the Atlantic.
Back in September of twenty twenty-four, a Florida man was arrested at a mini golf course. Police say he was wearing only underwear at the time.
Authorities say he allegedly burglarized the facility and damaged property. Video from the scene shows the suspect moving between the windmill and the castle hole.
That is not how you get a hole in one.
Back in October of twenty twenty-four, a Flagler County man was arrested after deputies say he attacked them at a Walmart. They were there to pick up his son, who police say was trespassing.
Prosecutors allege the father became combative when deputies contacted him. He faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer.
And back in July of twenty twenty-four, a Florida man was charged with making written threats against a former president and a sitting senator, along with their families. This was just days after an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.
Federal authorities arrested the suspect without incident. He was charged with threatening to kill a public official. The case remains under investigation.
That is four Florida Man Tributes in a single segment.
We are now at one hundred and eighty-six. Forty-three weeks, Deb. We have been very busy.
Florida has been very busy.

Coming up in just a few minutes on KRAK 11 News, one animal video has now led our countdown for thirty-five straight hours and the gap is getting wider. We will tell you which one and why when ANIMALS comes back this afternoon.
You are watching KRAK 11 News.
ANIMALS
Welcome back to KRAK 11 News. Good afternoon, I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Time now for the KRAK 11 animal countdown, where we rank by new views gained, not total views.
We count three days of growth. Not lifetime totals. Just what happened since Tuesday.
Three videos this hour. Let's start at number three.
Number three: 120 Pounds of Dog. Hiding From Ice. Behind a Two-Year-Old. Posted by Tiny Boss Big Dog on the twentieth. Three million one hundred and five thousand seven hundred and twenty new views in the last three days.
That is a large dog.
And apparently the toddler is the one in charge.

Stay with us.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
You have been waiting for this one.

Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a walk-off home run to beat the White Sox four to three yesterday afternoon. He is the first Cub ever to hit a walk-off home run in the crosstown series.
Yahoo Sports released their preseason college football Top Twenty-Five this morning. Ohio State is ranked number four.
And the football Diego Maradona used to score the Hand of God goal against England in nineteen eighty-six sold at auction this morning for two and a half million pounds.
