KRAK 11 NEWS
Good afternoon. This is KRAK 11 News, one o'clock in Wexler County. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. This hour on KRAK 11 News: tens of thousands flee their homes in Nevada as a wildfire spreads through Reno's outskirts.
In Criminal Intent: our one hundred and eightieth Florida Man Tribute. Back in November of last year, a woman called nine-one-one after human body parts were delivered to her home instead of her medication.
That is a delivery error.
In Animals: When Kindness Goes Both Ways has led our countdown for thirty-four hours now. Seven million new views in three days. YouTube's own trending chart has it at number three.
And in Sports: Derek McInnes might be watching his first Old Firm match from the stands after a touchline ban. All that coming up this afternoon on KRAK 11 News.
We start at The World Desk.
THE WORLD DESK
Good afternoon. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. A lot to cover this afternoon.
Big day on the world desk.
We start with new information from Nevada — the evacuation order around the Reno wildfire has now been extended to include an additional twelve thousand residents.
The fire remains completely uncontained and authorities say wind conditions shifted overnight, pushing the fire line south toward residential areas that were not under threat this morning.
So the total evacuation count is now what — thirty-something thousand?
Thirty-seven thousand people under mandatory evacuation as of about an hour ago. One evacuee told reporters she was, quote, 'scared to death' as she packed her vehicle.
We will continue to monitor that and bring updates as they come in.
To the trade dispute between the United States and Canada now, where new information this afternoon shows business owners on both sides of the border are planning for significant losses if the tariffs remain in place.
One business owner in Ontario told reporters, quote, 'Half my business will be gone' if the current import taxes continue. The owner supplies manufacturing parts to companies in Michigan and says the tariffs have already delayed orders.
That is rough for the border towns especially — a lot of those economies are completely integrated.
They are. Michigan and Ontario in particular — Windsor and Detroit are eight hundred yards apart. People cross that border to go to work every morning.
Eight hundred yards — you could swim it.
I would not recommend that, but yes.
The BBC is reporting that business owners in both countries are describing deep uncertainty as the dispute continues, with no clear timeline for resolution.
To England now, where the number of job openings for recent college graduates has dropped by nearly fifty percent in the last twelve months.
The job site Adzuna says the number of graduate vacancies is now the lowest it has been since twenty sixteen. That is eight years of gains erased in a single year.
So this is new graduates coming out looking for work — not all job vacancies.
Correct. Positions aimed at people who graduated in the last year or two — entry-level professional roles. Adzuna tracks those separately and the drop is sharper than the overall job market.
Tough year to be twenty-two.
It is. The data does not break down why, but hiring freezes and economic uncertainty are likely contributors.
And in international soccer news this afternoon — Julian Alvarez's future with Arsenal remains uncertain as the transfer window closes in less than a week.
The Argentine forward currently plays for Atletico Madrid, and Arsenal is reportedly interested, but the BBC is calling this one of the summer's most bitter transfer disputes.
So Madrid is not letting him go?
Not without a fight. The window closes September first, so they have six days to work it out.
Also in English football — Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins may be leaving the club for Saudi Arabia, and the BBC is reporting that Villa did not see it coming.
Watkins has been described as a club legend, but his departure is now being called one of the most painful exits in recent Villa history.
Saudi league has been doing that a lot lately — coming in with offers nobody expected.
They have. The money involved tends to be significant.

Still ahead this afternoon on KRAK 11 News — Criminal Intent. A story out of the Midwest involving a man, a boat, and a very poorly thought-out alibi.
The alibi involved a witness who turned out to be a police officer.
We will have that in a few minutes.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good afternoon. You are watching KRAK 11 News.
We have reached one hundred and eighty-one Florida Man Tributes.
In forty-three weeks.
It is a consistent theme.
We begin this afternoon with a delivery error from back in November of last year. A woman in Pensacola was expecting medication. She opened a package on her doorstep and found human remains instead.
Police said a courier service delivered preserved tissue samples intended for a medical research facility to the wrong address entirely.
The woman called nine-one-one. No charges were filed and the courier apologized.
Also back in November of last year, deputies in Ocala arrested a man prosecutors allege was paid by a British woman to kill her. She had traveled from the United Kingdom and was later found dead.
He has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial.
Back in July of twenty twenty-four, Georgia police began searching for a man they believe stole medical stretchers from multiple funeral homes across three states.
One of those homes was in Dallas. Investigators said the stretchers were worth more than twelve thousand dollars.
Police said he is a person of interest in multiple theft cases and may be operating under several aliases.
Allegedly.
And back in May of last year, Lake County deputies arrested a man they say fled from law enforcement, ran into a home, and hid in a child's bedroom closet.
Deputies said the family did not know him and found him hiding when they returned home.
He faces multiple charges including trespassing, resisting arrest, and possession of narcotics. He is still awaiting trial.
One hundred and eighty-one tributes in forty-three weeks.
It is an education.

That is the scoreboard.
