KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning, Wexler County. It is eight o'clock and this is KRAK 11 News.
Coming up this hour on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk, Criminal Intent, Animals, and a quick look at Sports.
We start at The World Desk. Nearly ninety thousand people ordered to evacuate as a wildfire burns toward Reno, Nevada. Ten thousand acres, zero percent contained.
Criminal Intent brings you another KRAK 11 Florida Man Tribute. Back in March of last year, a man texted the homeowner about cocaine he left on the nightstand. While deputies were standing right there.
That is Florida Man Tribute number one hundred and seventy-three in forty-three weeks.
We are proud of that count.
Animals has When Kindness Goes Both Ways leading the countdown for twenty-nine hours now, with six million eight hundred and twenty-six thousand new views. And Sports has Bryson DeChambeau on what LIV Golf has achieved.
Still ahead on The World Desk this morning: why nearly ninety thousand people in Nevada have minutes to decide what they can carry. That is coming up next on KRAK 11 News.
Stay with us.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. You are watching KRAK 11 News. I am Chip Marlowe.
I am Deb Sarkissian. We have developments from Nevada, the United Kingdom, London Zoo, and a trade story that is affecting businesses on both sides of the Canadian border.
London Zoo is in the United Kingdom.
We begin this morning with an update from Nevada, where the wildfire approaching Reno remains completely uncontained.
The fire has now burned ten thousand five hundred acres. Nearly ninety thousand people remain under evacuation orders as crews work to establish containment lines.
That is the entire population of Reno.
It is closer to a quarter of the city, Chip. Reno's population is just under two hundred and seventy thousand.
Still a significant portion of a major city.
It absolutely is. Officials say containment efforts are expected to continue throughout the week, with additional crews arriving from neighboring states this morning.
To Canada and the United States now, where business owners on both sides of the border are reporting deep concern as the trade war between the two countries continues.
One business owner told the BBC that half of their business will be gone if the tit-for-tat import taxes continue. Others are navigating what they call unprecedented uncertainty.
That is between Canada and Mexico.
Between Canada and the United States.
Our northern neighbor.
Our northern neighbor.
London Zoo conducted its annual weigh-in this morning. Animals were measured and weighed as part of their health checks.
Among those on the scales: Kiwi the Capybara.
The zoo says the data is gathered and shared with conservation programs around the world. It helps track animal health across populations.
How much does a capybara weigh?
About a hundred and forty pounds, on average.
That is a substantial rodent.
It is the largest rodent in the world.
Also the friendliest.
They are very social animals.

Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News, a story from Wexler County that we have been following for weeks.
A development that came in overnight, and it involves someone you may already know from the police logs.
That is CRIMINAL INTENT, in a few minutes.
We will be right back.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning. Welcome to the Blotter.
We have another Florida Man Tribute this morning.
This one involves a text message that the suspect probably wishes he could take back.
It is not often that someone texts their own confession.
Back in March of last year, Hillsborough County deputies say a man who was being asked to leave a home sent a text message to the homeowner. The text read, quote, 'I left a small bag on your nightstand. It has some cocaine in it. Can you throw it away for me?'
The homeowner did not throw it away.
The homeowner called the sheriff's office. Deputies say they recovered the bag, tested the contents, and arrested the man on possession charges.
Prosecutors allege he provided both the evidence and the confession in a single text message.
That is the hundred and seventy-fourth Florida Man Tribute we have aired in forty-three weeks.
It remains the only case we are aware of where the suspect politely asked the victim to dispose of the evidence.
A courtesy.
New York police say a carjacking and subsequent crash led officers to six hundred pounds of marijuana in the suspect's vehicle. The driver fled on foot and remains a person of interest.
Police say. The suspect has not been charged.
Missouri authorities say they discovered fentanyl concealed inside Barbie dolls being sold at a discount store. Two people have been arrested and prosecutors have filed narcotics trafficking charges.
In Massachusetts, a man driving a front-end loader led police on what they described as a slow-speed pursuit through two townships before he was taken into custody without injury.
Two townships.
At approximately seven miles per hour.
The helicopter footage would show a very patient convoy.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News, London Zoo conducted its annual weigh-in, and Kiwi the Capybara made an appearance. We will have that for you in Animals.
Coming up in just a few minutes.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.

Still ahead this morning, a look at sports. Pete Crow-Armstrong has extended his walk-off RBI streak to fifty-seven consecutive games.
The Cubs beat the Cardinals six to five in the bottom of the ninth.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS

Honda admitted this week it only realized the full scale of its Formula One engine problems in January. The team says it is rebuilding from the ground up for next season.
