KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. This is KRAK 11 News at oh-two-hundred hours. I am Chip Marlowe.
And I am Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour: The World Desk, where a shark attack survivor in Australia talks about her second chance. Criminal Intent, with our one hundred and sixty-third Florida Man Tribute. Animals, where the top of our countdown is still standing.
And A Quick Look At Sports, where ninety thousand people are evacuating Reno this morning because of a wildfire.
That is not a sport.
It is in the sports segment. Still ahead on KRAK 11 News this morning, The World Desk begins with a woman in Australia who survived multiple shark bites in June and is grateful to be here.
That is next.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. You are watching KRAK 11 News.
Good morning, Chip.
I have been reading more about door handles.
Of course you have.
We have an update from China on that massive vehicle recall we covered at midnight. Regulators there have expanded the recall beyond Tesla to include three Chinese automakers facing the same door handle issue.
XPeng, Xiaomi and Geely are all now on the recall list. That is in addition to the nearly three million Teslas already affected.
The problem involves flush door handles that are supposed to pop out automatically in a crash or when the battery fails. Chinese regulators say in some cases they remain hidden, which could trap people inside the vehicle.
XPeng is headquartered in Guangzhou, which is a major manufacturing hub on the southern coast.
It is about nine hundred miles south of Shanghai.
I said southern coast.
From Australia this morning, a shark attack survivor is speaking publicly about her recovery. Leah Stewart was attacked by a shark in June while swimming near Perth. She suffered multiple bites to both arms and legs.
Stewart told reporters this week she is grateful to be alive. She says every day since the attack has felt like a gift, and she has no plans to stop swimming.
Her doctors say she is recovering ahead of schedule.
That is very good news.
From the business world, fast-fashion retailer Shein has now set a launch date for its stock market debut. The company says trading will begin in Hong Kong on September first.
Shein is targeting a valuation of twenty-seven billion dollars. That is down from an earlier goal of forty billion, which we reported at midnight.
Market analysts say Hong Kong trading has been volatile this year, which may explain the more conservative pricing. The company had originally planned to list in New York but shifted to Hong Kong after regulatory concerns.
Hong Kong is on the coast, which gives it natural access to maritime trade routes throughout Asia.
It is a financial center.
Both things can be true.

From the United Kingdom this morning, several newspapers are leading with photographs of two police officers killed in a Saturday crash. The Times describes the loss as pain beyond words.
The Telegraph, the Daily Mail and the Mirror all carry the story on their front pages as well. The officers were killed when their patrol car was struck early Saturday morning.
Our thoughts are with their families and colleagues.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News, Criminal Intent. A Wexler County man is facing charges after police say he tried to pay for groceries with a check that was not his.
The check had someone else's name printed on it.
It did.
Criminal Intent is next.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning. Time now for the Krak Eleven Blotter.
Four stories tonight from the Florida Man Tribute file. None of them happened recently, all of them happened.
I have been looking forward to this segment all morning.
I know you have.
We begin with a Florida Man Tribute from Thailand. Back in November of last year, a woman was brought to a temple for cremation.
Temple staff heard knocking from inside the coffin. The woman, who had been declared dead, was very much alive and moving.
That is one hundred and sixty-four Florida Man Tributes in forty-three weeks.
From North Carolina, also back in November. A driver called nine-one-one to report that a bald eagle had dropped a cat through her windshield.
The dispatcher said, quote, you may not believe me. The dispatcher believed her. The cat survived.
The windshield did not.
Pennsylvania, back in January of this year. Authorities say Jonathan Gerlach robbed graves in Delaware County and kept human remains in his home.
Police allege they discovered corpses hanging from his ceiling. Gerlach faces multiple felony charges.
Police said that. He has not been convicted.
Correct. Louisiana, also back in January. Deputies say a woman was found skinny-dipping in a neighbor's pond.
She told deputies she was trying to be a mermaid. When a sheriff's deputy arrived, she allegedly attacked him.
Prosecutors allege she attacked him.
She faces multiple charges. The deputy was not seriously injured.
That is one hundred and sixty-five Florida Man Tributes in forty-three weeks.
It is. The eagle story is my favorite.
Of course it is.
Still ahead this morning on Krak Eleven News, we have the animal countdown. When Kindness Goes Both Ways is still in the lead, and the margin is growing.
We will have the numbers after the break.
ANIMALS

A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.

You have been watching this one all week.
Every single night, Deb. Every single night he delivers. Ohio State comes in at number four in the Yahoo Sports Preseason College Football Top Twenty-Five.
And Magnus Carlsen defended his chess title at the twenty twenty-six Esports World Cup, defeating Ian Nepomniachtchi three and a half to two and a half.
Still ahead — the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour. Ninety thousand people told to evacuate as a wildfire moves through northwest Reno.
Good morning, Wexler County.
