KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning, Wexler County. This is KRAK 11 News at midnight, and we have a full hour ahead.
The World Desk begins with nearly three million Teslas recalled in China over door handles that hide themselves in the wrong moment.
Our one hundred and fifty-ninth Florida Man Tribute — a portable toilet fell from a truck onto an interstate back in July of this year, and a fifty-six-year-old man did not survive what happened next.
That is a very specific kind of bad luck.
The video that has led our animal countdown for twenty-one hours straight — six million new views in four days, and we still do not know what animal is in it.
And a look at the wildfire in Reno, where fifteen thousand acres have burned and nearly ninety thousand people have been told to leave.
Still ahead this morning — The World Desk, where we will tell you which other car companies are pulling vehicles off the road in China, and why a door handle that disappears is more dangerous than it sounds.
That is next.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning, Wexler County. This is KRAK 11 News at midnight.
You have been reading about China all afternoon.
I have been reading about electric vehicles.
You have been reading about door handles.
We begin in China, where regulators have ordered a massive vehicle recall affecting nearly three million cars. The issue involves door handles that remain hidden when they should extend in an emergency.
That is a safety concern for Tesla drivers across mainland China.
It is. And it is not just Tesla. The recall also covers vehicles made by Chinese manufacturers XPeng, Xiaomi, and Geely.
Those are four of the major electric vehicle producers operating in the Shanghai region.
They operate throughout China. XPeng is based in Guangzhou, which is about nine hundred miles south of Shanghai.
I thought Guangzhou was a coastal city.
It is. On the South China Sea.
That is what I said.
You said Shanghai.
I was establishing context.
From London, police have now identified the woman killed in Sunday's west London house fire. She was thirty-eight years old. Eight others remain hospitalized with injuries.
The thirty-four-year-old man arrested at Heathrow remains in custody on suspicion of murder. He was carrying a one-way ticket to France.
From Canada, trade talks with the United States have collapsed for a second time this week. Prime Minister Trudeau announced new retaliatory tariffs this morning and accused Washington of starting a trade war.
President Trump responded this morning by saying Canada wants the benefits of being a U.S. state without the responsibilities.
The Canadian tariffs target American steel, aluminum, and a range of agricultural products. They took effect at midnight Eastern.
From Guinea in West Africa, the government says the death toll from Sunday's landfill collapse has now risen to at least thirty people. Several homes were buried beneath the waste mound in the capital city of Conakry.
Rescue crews are still searching the site. The landfill is the largest waste facility serving the capital.
Those are difficult conditions.
They are.
If you are watching us on YouTube at this hour, and you find what we do here worth your time, a subscription costs you nothing and it makes a real difference to a station our size.
We are glad you are here.
Deb has been reading about Conakry all afternoon.
I read the wire copy.
Which I consider thorough preparation.
You arrive at four in the morning.
The news does not sleep.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News, a Florida man, a lawn mower, and a decision that raised questions for everyone involved.
We will have that story in just a few minutes on CRIMINAL INTENT.
KRAK 11 News continues after this.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning, Wexler County. Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
Four Florida Man Tributes this morning.
We are going to need a larger trophy case.
We begin with a story from the United Kingdom. Back in November of last year, a man broke into a home, helped himself to a slice of cake, smoked a cigarette, and left.
He left the cigarette butt behind.
DNA recovered from that cigarette has now connected Abeeb Hussain to the burglary. Police say he was arrested nine months later and is in custody.
That brings the KRAK 11 Florida Man Tribute count to one hundred and sixty in forty-three weeks.
Also back in July of this year, TSA officers at an Alabama airport discovered something alarming during a routine baggage screening.
The X-ray showed shapes officers initially thought were explosive devices. They turned out to be stolen Civil War artifacts.
Federal authorities allege the passenger is facing charges related to theft of historical property.
And a grim one from Arkansas. Back in July of this year, a fifty-six-year-old man was killed on Interstate 49 in Benton County after his vehicle struck a portable toilet that had fallen from a truck.
Arkansas State Police confirmed the death. The investigation into how the portable toilet became dislodged is ongoing.
And one more from Maine. A jury has awarded a woman millions of dollars after routine surgery for a benign ovarian cyst ended with the accidental removal of her bladder.
That happened back in July of this year as well. The settlement amount has not been disclosed, but court filings describe it as substantial.
That is the Blotter.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News, Animals. When Kindness Goes Both Ways has now led our countdown for twenty-one hours straight.
Six million four hundred and seventy-seven thousand new views in four days.
We will have the full top five when we come back.

Fifty-one consecutive games. We will have the number when we come back.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
Fifty-two consecutive games.
You have been waiting all evening to say that number.
Pete Crow-Armstrong extended his walk-off RBI streak to fifty-two consecutive games tonight as the Cubs beat the White Sox, four to three in the bottom of the ninth.
Magnus Carlsen defended his chess title at the twenty twenty-six Esports World Cup, defeating Ian Nepomniachtchi three and a half to two and a half in the final match.
Ohio State remains ranked number four in the Yahoo Sports preseason college football poll, and the Buckeyes open camp next week.
Still ahead this morning at the top of the hour - we will have more on Pete Crow-Armstrong and what happens when a streak that was impossible becomes routine.
