KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening. It is eleven o'clock in Wexler County, and this is KRAK 11 News. I am Chip Marlowe.
And I am Deb Sarkissian. Thank you for being here. Coming up this hour on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk, where a man arrested at the border faces murder charges after a fire in London left one dead and eight injured.
Criminal Intent, where we bring you our one hundred and fifty-seventh Florida Man Tribute - a giraffe on the loose in Texas back in June, and the five-thousand-dollar reward that followed.
That is a lot of giraffe.
Animals, where When Kindness Goes Both Ways has now led our countdown for twenty hours straight. And A Quick Look At Sports, where we explain postpartum psychosis and why it is central to the Lindsay Clancy trial in Massachusetts.
Still ahead tonight - The World Desk, where the man arrested at Heathrow was carrying a one-way ticket to France. We will tell you what investigators found at the scene.
That is coming up in just a moment.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening. This is The World Desk.
I saw you reading about Hong Kong again.
I have been preparing.
All afternoon.
We begin in Hong Kong, where the fast-fashion retailer Shein has set the price for its stock market debut. Shares are expected to begin trading September first.
The company is targeting a valuation of just under twenty-seven billion dollars, making it one of the largest listings in Hong Kong this year.
That's Singapore, correct?
Hong Kong. Special administrative region of China.
Right. The financial capital.
One of them.
From Guinea in West Africa, the death toll from Sunday morning's landfill collapse remains at thirty tonight. Rescue crews are continuing to search the site in the capital city of Conakry.
A mound of waste at the Matoto dump gave way early Sunday, burying several homes. Officials say heavy rains in recent weeks may have destabilized the structure.
That's the coastal region.
Conakry is on the coast, yes.
From Britain, CrossCountry rail reports full service has been restored tonight. The company ran a limited schedule over the weekend following multiple mechanical failures and crew shortages that stranded passengers across the network.
CrossCountry operates services linking Scotland, northern England, the Midlands and southwest England. The company says restoring normal operations is now its key priority.
How much freight does Britain move by rail?
A hundred million tons last year.
That's a working railway.
And a brief update from London. The thirty-four-year-old man arrested at Heathrow Sunday night remains in custody on suspicion of murder following a fatal fire in Hounslow.
One person died in the blaze. Eight others were injured. Police say the suspect was carrying a one-way ticket to France when he was detained.
And from Australia, Leah Stewart says she is grateful to be alive. The twenty-nine-year-old was attacked by a shark near Perth in June and suffered severe injuries to both legs.
Stewart told reporters this week she is grateful for what she calls her second chance at life. Witnesses applied tourniquets at the scene, and doctors say that likely saved her.
She has completed her first round of surgeries.
And is expected to make a full recovery.
That's The World Desk.
If you're watching us on YouTube, we're glad you found us. A subscribe genuinely makes a difference to a station this size.
Costs you nothing.
And it means the world to us.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News, a story that has taken three separate departments to confirm. We will tell you what we know, what we do not, and why it took this long.
Criminal Intent is next.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. This is Criminal Intent.
Deb, I have never lost a giraffe.
You have never owned a giraffe.
That is probably why I have never lost one.
Back in June of this year, a giraffe escaped from a ranch in Real County, Texas. Authorities are still looking for her.
Her name is Gracie. She is seventeen feet tall and weighs about eighteen hundred pounds.
Cedar Hollow Ranch is offering a five thousand dollar reward for information leading to her safe return.
That is a lot of reward for a giraffe.
She is a lot of giraffe.
Back in April of this year, a parachutist jumped out of a perfectly good airplane ahead of a Virginia Tech football game and slammed directly into the scoreboard.
The skydiver was doing great after the crash, according to Virginia Tech officials.
The scoreboard was less fortunate.
The game went on as scheduled.
Back in May of this year, the Pentagon declassified infrared video of an F-16 encounter over Lake Huron near Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
The video shows what appears to be a weather balloon being shot down. Moments later, a bright white object appears to the right of the crosshairs.
The Pentagon has not identified the object.
That makes one hundred and fifty-eight Florida Man Tributes in forty-three weeks.
And we will keep doing them as long as people keep doing things.
That is not a high bar.
Coming up tonight on Animals, a heron fighting for its life. That video gained nearly four million new views this week.
And the number one video on the countdown has now been there for twenty hours.
That is next.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown. Three videos, ranked by views gained in the last four days, counting down from three.
The number one video has now led this count for twenty consecutive hours.
We start at number three.
Number three is a video YouTube files under Pets and Animals. It is called Check for Context. Posted by Benji Void on the sixteenth of August. Two million eight hundred and seventy-three thousand new views in four days.
Number two. Fisherman Found This Heron Fighting For Its Life. Posted by Sassy on the twenty-first of August. Four million twenty-nine thousand new views.
And number one.
When Kindness Goes Both Ways. Posted by Windypaws on the twentieth. Six million four hundred and thirty-five thousand new views in four days. Still leading after twenty hours.
That is a very large number.
All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel, and the link is in the description.
Still ahead tonight. A Quick Look at Sports, and the Cubs have extended a record that nobody in baseball saw coming.
Fifty-one consecutive games.
We will explain what that means in just a moment.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
It has been a good night for Chicago baseball.
Both teams won.
The Cubs beat the White Sox tonight five to four on Pete Crow-Armstrong's walk-off single. That is his fifty-first consecutive game with a walk-off RBI, extending his major league record.
The Brewers beat the Reds nine to two. Magnus Carlsen defended his chess title at the Esports World Cup, beating his challenger three games to one in the final.
And Ohio State is ranked number four in the Yahoo Sports preseason college football poll. The Buckeyes open camp next week.
That is sports. Coming up at the top of the hour — the story Wexler County has been calling us about all evening. We will tell you what we know.
We are glad you are with us tonight.
