Rundown
KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening. This is KRAK 11 News at twenty hundred hours. I am Chip Marlowe.
And I am Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour: The World Desk, where a man arrested at the French border is in custody on suspicion of murder after a fire in London left one dead and eight injured.
Criminal Intent brings you our one hundred and fifty-second Florida Man Tribute. This one is from July of this year, and it is remarkable even by the standards of that series.
Arizona.
What?
The story is from Arizona. Gilbert, Arizona.
I have been doing this for forty-three weeks and I have never once checked whether Florida Man has to be from Florida.
He does not. Animals at the half, where the number one video on the KRAK 11 countdown has now led for seventeen hours and gained more than six million new views in four days.
And A Quick Look at Sports, where Hull City's enormous win over Manchester United has their assistant head coach in the Match of the Day studio trying to explain what just happened.
Still ahead: a man travelling to France is stopped at the border and arrested on suspicion of murder. The fire he is accused of setting killed one person and injured eight. We have that in The World Desk.
Stay with us.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening. Welcome to the World Desk.
Five stories from across the Atlantic tonight.
All from England, as far as I can tell.
And Wales.
We begin tonight with a crisis in British healthcare. Nearly six hundred dental practices have withdrawn from NHS dentistry over the last ten years, and analysts say the service is heading toward what they are calling a two-tier system.
Six hundred practices across Great Britain in ten years.
England and Wales.
That is what I said.
How easy it is to find an NHS dentist now depends almost entirely on where you live. Some regions have effectively lost access to public dental care. Private practice is becoming the only option for millions of people.
The Health Service has not said what it plans to do about it.
Also from England tonight, the government has launched a review into how business rates are calculated for pubs and hotels. The review covers England and Wales and could lead to a complete reform of the system.
Industry groups have been asking for this for years. Business rates are the tax that businesses pay to local councils based on the value of the property they occupy.
Which goes to the Crown.
Which goes to the local authority.
Same thing.
In medical news tonight, a fourteen-year-old girl in the UK is speaking out about endometriosis after doctors told her she was too young to have the condition when she was thirteen.
Grace, who is fourteen now, says she had to take morphine to cope with the pain, and she felt doctors were dismissive of what she was experiencing.
She is speaking publicly now because she wants other young people to know the symptoms and to know they are not too young to be taken seriously.
And from England, a story about students getting paid to play video games.
Roehampton University is offering students two thousand pounds a year to play esports alongside their regular studies.
Two thousand pounds to play computer games.
That is about twenty-five hundred dollars.
I know what two thousand pounds is, Deb.
The university says esports are a growing industry and they want to train competitive players the same way they train athletes in traditional sports.
When I was in school, we got yelled at for playing video games.
You still do.
Also from the UK tonight, a survey on workplace attitudes suggests that accent bias is still a problem in many British companies. Workers say they have been told they do not speak what the survey calls, quote, the Queen's English.
The survey did not name specific accents, but it found that people from outside London and the southeast are more likely to report being judged for how they sound.
Some said it has affected their careers.
That is the World Desk for this hour.
Still ahead tonight, Criminal Intent. A case that has been cold for nine years, and the phone call that changed everything.
That is coming up in just a few minutes on KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening, Wexler County. Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
This is our one hundred and fifty-third Florida Man Tribute in forty-three weeks.
I have never checked whether Florida Man has to be from Florida.
And yet we press on.
We begin tonight back in May of this year, when rescuers in Massachusetts removed an arrow lodged completely through a duck's bill.
The arrow passed through without striking bone. The duck is recovering. The person who fired the arrow has not been found, and authorities called the act cruel.
The duck was alert at the time of rescue.
Alert is one word for it.
Back in April of this year, a woman in Roseville was trapped for hours inside a Ross Dress for Less store overnight after employees locked up and left.
Police are not saying how she was missed during closing procedures. The woman was eventually freed after store staff arrived the following morning.
No injuries were reported. Shoppers at the location said they have questions about the store's closing protocols.
As do we.
Back in July of this year, an eighteen-month-old boy in Gilbert, Arizona was found breathing in a hospital morgue nearly five hours after being declared dead following a pool incident.
The child had been declared dead by emergency personnel at the scene. Hospital staff discovered the child was still alive when preparing the body for the morgue.
The child was immediately treated and authorities have launched an investigation into the protocols followed at the scene.
And overseas, archaeologists in Turkey believe they have uncovered the remains of a church that may have hosted the First Council of Nicaea, one of the most pivotal events in the history of Christianity.
The Council of Nicaea met in the year three twenty-five and established some of the foundational doctrines of the Christian faith. The structure was buried beneath a lake.
Researchers are calling it a groundbreaking discovery and are continuing excavations at the site.
That is the Blotter.
Still ahead tonight, we have animals. And I will tell you which video has now led the KRAK 11 countdown for seventeen hours.
That is next.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The countdown tonight.
Three videos ranked by how many views they gained in the last four days.
Number three comes from a channel called Benji Void. Two million eight hundred and fifty-one thousand new views in four days. Five million six hundred and seventy-eight thousand total.
Posted on the sixteenth of August. It ranks twenty-second on YouTube's own trending chart.
Number two is a video called Fisherman Found This Heron Fighting For Its Life, posted by a channel called Sassy.
Three million eight hundred and thirteen thousand new views in the last four days. Seven million five hundred and twenty-three thousand total. Posted on the twenty-first.
And number one for the eighteenth hour running is When Kindness Goes Both Ways, from a channel called Windypaws.
Six million three hundred and three thousand new views in four days. Seven million nine hundred and thirty-nine thousand in total. It went up on the twentieth and it has not moved since.
You watched it twice.
I did.
All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. The link is in the description.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News, a quick look at sports. The Brewers have now won sixty-one consecutive games, which is the longest win streak in baseball history.
And Pete Crow-Armstrong has hit walk-off RBIs in forty-nine straight games for the Cubs.
A quick look at sports when we come back.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
We have got a streak that will not quit, a walk-off king who is rewriting the record books, and a soccer result that nobody saw coming.
And chess.
The Brewers have now won sixty-two straight games. They beat the Reds tonight nine to two, extending their franchise record to a mark no one thought they would see in our lifetime.
Pete Crow-Armstrong hit his fiftieth consecutive walk-off RBI for the Cubs. They beat the White Sox five to four.
In soccer, Hull City beat Manchester United at home in their opening match. The assistant head coach called it beyond anyone's dreams.
Magnus Carlsen defended his chess title at the Esports World Cup in twenty twenty-six.
That is sports. Coming up at the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News, the Canadian tariffs take effect at midnight tonight and we will have the full list of what that means for Wexler County.
Thank you for watching. Good night.
