KRAK 11 NEWS
Good afternoon, Wexler County. This is KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour. I am Chip Marlowe.
And I am Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk, where the president takes a ceremonial lap at a high-speed race through the streets of Washington.
Then Criminal Intent, where a Florida man from September of twenty twenty-four tried a creative approach to hiding evidence during a traffic stop. It did not work.
Animals, where a video called When Kindness Goes Both Ways has gained five point eight million views in four days and we still do not know what animal is in it.
YouTube filed it under Pets.
And A Quick Look at Sports, where thousands in northwest Indiana are still without power nearly two weeks after a storm hit the region.
Still ahead this afternoon: The World Desk, where the president's visit to an IndyCar race comes at the end of a summer marking the country's two hundred and fiftieth birthday. We will have that story in just a moment.
THE WORLD DESK
Good afternoon, I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We have six countries on the rundown this afternoon.
I know where five of them are.
That is your best ratio in weeks. We begin in Washington, where President Trump attended the high-speed IndyCar race that marked the culmination of a summer of events celebrating the country's two hundred and fiftieth birthday.
The president took a ceremonial lap of the track before the race started. Streets through the capital were closed for the event, which drew more than seventy thousand spectators.
That's quite a turnout for an IndyCar race in the nation's capital.
The series has been touring historic cities all summer as part of the anniversary. This was the final event.
France now, where authorities have confirmed three hundred and one drowning deaths since June nineteenth. A government minister linked the increase directly to the heatwaves that have swept across southern Europe.
The minister said this morning Paris time that people have been taking risks by going into the water to cool off during record temperatures.
Three hundred and one deaths in just over two months.
The ministry is urging people not to swim alone and to stay away from unsupervised beaches and rivers, especially during the afternoon heat.
In Britain, CrossCountry rail remains almost completely shut down. The disruption is now in its twelfth hour, and the company says it has no estimate for when service will resume.
The power cut that knocked out their Birmingham operations center early this morning their time also took down backup systems. Customers are calling this the worst-case scenario.
Birmingham is the heart of their network. Everything runs through there.
Birmingham is in the Midlands. It connects north and south service.
That's what I said.
You did.
The company is advising travelers not to attempt their journeys today, and hotels near major stations are reporting they are fully booked.
And in golf, Scotland's Scott Jamieson has ended a fourteen-year title drought by winning the Nexo Championship. He shot a final round of sixty-seven to take the victory.
After the win, he received a video call from President Trump, who congratulated him on the performance.
Fourteen years between wins is a long time on tour.
He was ranked outside the top two hundred coming into the tournament. This changes everything for him.
The win secures his tour card for the next two seasons and gets him into several major qualifying events.
And from Ukraine, the government is still silent following the BBC interview we told you about earlier. Mykhailo Fedorov, who was dismissed as defence minister last month, has said President Zelensky should be asked what he knew about corruption allegations.
Fedorov also called for wartime elections to be held in Ukraine. That interview aired overnight and as of seven this morning Eastern time, Zelensky's office has not responded.
The allegations center on procurement contracts within the defence ministry. Fedorov has not said when he believes the president knew, but he says the question needs to be asked directly.
We will follow that story as it develops.
And if you are watching on YouTube, we read your comments. Tell us what you think.
We answer them as well. Sometimes at hours I should be sleeping.
Coming up in just a few minutes, Criminal Intent. We have breaking news out of Wexler County, and it happened less than forty minutes ago.
We will have the details right after this.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good afternoon. It is time once again for the Krak Eleven Florida Man Tribute.
We have four this afternoon, all archived from the Florida Highway Patrol and county sheriffs' offices.
These are not recent cases. These are tributes to the enduring tradition of decision-making in the state of Florida.
The first is from September of twenty twenty-four.
Pasco County. A traffic stop. The suspect flees. Troopers give chase. When they finally corner him, he has made a choice about the cocaine.
He snorted it to hide the evidence.
The highway patrol said he believed this would prevent the crime from being prosecuted.
He was charged with possession, tampering with evidence, and fleeing.
April of last year. Highlands County. A vehicle pursuit, miles long. The suspect pulls alongside the deputy's cruiser at speed and offers him a hard seltzer.
The sheriff's office said the deputy declined.
The pursuit ended when the suspect lost control and struck a fence. He was arrested without further refreshment.
July twenty twenty-four. A man allegedly pulled a gun on his former manager and threatened to kill everyone in the building over seventy-five dollars.
Deputies said he was taken into custody without injury. No one was harmed.
May of last year. Walton County. A traffic stop. The deputy notices the license plate is made of cardboard.
A search of the vehicle revealed two pipe bombs and methamphetamine.
The sheriff's office said the suspect was charged with possession of explosives, possession of methamphetamine, and operating a vehicle with an unlawful tag.
We have now aired one hundred and forty-two Florida Man Tributes in forty-three weeks.
The archive grows.
Still ahead this afternoon - Animals. The viral video that has held the top spot for ten hours now.
Five point eight million views in four days.
That is next on Krak Eleven News.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown.
Ranked by views gained in the last four days, not total views.
Three videos this hour.
At number three, a video posted by Benji Void on the sixteenth. Two million seven hundred and eighty-nine thousand views gained. Five million six hundred thousand total.
Down one place since the last count.
Number two, Fisherman Found This Heron Fighting For Its Life. Posted by Sassy on the twenty-first.
Two million eight hundred and forty-four thousand views gained. Six and a half million total. Up one spot.
And at number one, for the tenth hour running, When Kindness Goes Both Ways.
Posted by Windypaws on the twentieth. Five million eight hundred and sixteen thousand views gained in four days.
Seven point four million total. Unchanged at the top.
YouTube's own trending chart has it at number one as well.
All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. Link is in the description.
Ten hours at number one.
It is a very good video.
Still ahead this afternoon, a quick look at sports. The Brewers have now won fifty-five straight games, which is something no team has ever done.
And Pete Crow-Armstrong makes it forty-three.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A Quick Look at Sports.
Fifty-six straight wins.
I am not sure that number is real anymore.
The Brewers beat the Cardinals four to one yesterday, extending their franchise-record winning streak to fifty-six straight games.
The Cubs beat the White Sox four to two, and Pete Crow-Armstrong hit another walk-off RBI. That is forty-four consecutive games with a walk-off RBI.
Ohio State is ranked number four in Yahoo Sports' Preseason College Football Top Twenty-Five. They open the season against Michigan.
And Magnus Carlsen successfully defended his chess title at the twenty twenty-six Esports World Cup this afternoon.
That is the scoreboard. Still ahead this afternoon, the next KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour.
We will see you then.
