KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Thank you for joining us this morning.
This hour on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk. Housing ministers in Britain want mayors to overrule local councils on planning. Criminal Intent — our one hundred and twenty-second Florida Man Tribute. Animals — a new number one on the countdown.
And A Quick Look at Sports, where federal investigators have released body camera footage from a Memphis shooting.
That is an ambitious sports desk.
Still ahead this morning — The World Desk, where a woman in China got her head stuck in a metal railing back in July of last year. The video just surfaced. We will tell you how firefighters got her out.
We will. First — the news.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. You are watching KRAK 11 News, Wexler County. This is the World Desk.
We have the robot video.
I have watched it seven times since we got it.
Of course you have.
We begin in Beijing, where the second World Humanoid Games kicked off Saturday with robots competing in boxing, football, and the hundred meter sprint.
The hundred meter sprint.
The hundred meter sprint. The games are a five-day competition testing how well humanoid robots can perform tasks designed for people.
Beijing. That is in the northern provinces.
Beijing is the capital.
It is also in the northern provinces.
It is the capital, in the north. Organizers say the games are meant to showcase advances in mobility, dexterity, and artificial intelligence.
In Las Vegas early Sunday morning, American boxer Teofimo Lopez beat Rolando Romero by unanimous decision to claim the WBA welterweight title.
All three judges gave it to Lopez.
Lopez then appeared to snub number one challenger Jack Catterall, who had been scheduled to fight the winner. Lopez said he would think about it.
Catterall is British, from Lancashire. The WBA has not yet commented on whether Lopez will be required to defend against the top contender.
In Britain, the government has announced that mayors will now have the power to overrule local councils on major planning decisions.
Housing minister Matthew Pennycook said the change is essential for helping mayors deliver new homes. The change applies to regional mayors in England, not local ones.
Regional mayors. Like the Mayor of Greater Manchester.
Exactly like the Mayor of Greater Manchester, who oversees about three million people.
Those mayors will now be able to approve or deny housing developments, bypassing smaller councils that might otherwise block them.
The minister said the goal is to speed up housing construction in areas where demand is high and local opposition has slowed development.
We have two minutes left in this segment and I would like to revisit the robot video.
You have watched it seven times.
Eight now.
Since we started this segment.
I watched it during the boxing story.
You were reading copy during the boxing story.
I am very good at this job.
If you are watching us on YouTube this morning, a subscription would mean a great deal to a station our size, and it costs you nothing at all.
We are glad you are here.
Coming up in just a few minutes, Criminal Intent. A Pennsylvania mall was locked down last August after someone called in a report of an armed suspect.
It was an umbrella.
It was an umbrella. Criminal Intent, in a few minutes on KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning. Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
Four Florida Man Tributes this morning.
All from last year. All worth the wait.
We begin with the one where the accomplice was left hanging.
Back in April of last year, deputies in Daytona Beach were searching for a burglary suspect when a K-9 unit picked up a scent and led officers directly to a tree.
The suspect was in the tree.
The suspect was in the tree. Deputies said they found his accomplice still hanging from a window where the attempted break-in occurred. The K-9 brought the tree suspect down without incident.
Also back in April of last year, authorities in Pasco County say a man exposed himself in the back of a Lyft during a ride from Walmart to a mobile home park. The driver contacted law enforcement immediately.
Deputies arrested the suspect at the mobile home park. He is facing charges of indecent exposure.
Back in July of last year, a woman in China's Shandong province had to be rescued by firefighters after getting her head stuck in a metal railing. The incident was reportedly part of an online challenge.
Firefighters were able to free her without injury. We count that one as an honorary Florida Man Tribute.
One hundred and twenty-five Florida Man Tributes in forty-three weeks.
And also back in July of last year, a North Carolina gamer was struck by lightning while livestreaming. The National Lightning Safety Council says the odds of being struck in any given year are one in one point four three million.
The entire incident was captured on the stream. The gamer survived with minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The stream has been viewed over fourteen million times.
I have seen it twice.
Coming up in just a few minutes, a pelican tries to swallow something it absolutely should not have, and the rescue that followed. Animals is next on KRAK 11 News.
We will be right back.
ANIMALS
Good morning. Time now for Animals.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown.
Which ranks by new views gained in the last four days, not total views.
Number three this morning is Woman Kicks Seal Off Her Boat, posted by guipascale. Two million new views in four days.
Two million is a significant figure.

It has led our count for three hours and it is number one on YouTube's trending chart as well.
Five million in four days.
The sea urchin video held the top spot for seven consecutive days before this.
You watched that one nineteen times.
I did.
All three videos are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. The link is in the description.
Still ahead this morning, A Quick Look at Sports. The Brewers have now won fifty straight games, extending their franchise record.
That is a number that keeps getting longer. We will have that in a few minutes on KRAK 11 News.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
We have got baseball records extending, a chess title defended for the ninth straight year, and college football rankings are in.

Ohio State opens preseason ranked number four in the Yahoo Sports college football poll. Michigan, Penn State and USC round out the top ten.
Coming up at the top of the hour, the county has a briefing on the water main repairs and we will tell you what they said. That is the next KRAK 11 News in about two minutes.
