KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. This is KRAK 11 News, the top of the hour in Wexler County. I am Chip Marlowe.
I am Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk, where Australia finished a test match in two days.
Criminal Intent brings you a Florida Man Tribute from last August involving battery-flavored corn chips. Animals has a new number one on the KRAK 11 countdown after seven straight days at the top for the sea urchin video.
And A Quick Look at Sports.
Still ahead on The World Desk — Mitchell Starc took all ten wickets, Bangladesh never had a chance, and the series ends in a draw.
KRAK 11 News starts now.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Four o'clock in the morning here in Wexler County, and the world has been busy.
I had three cups of coffee before we went on air.
I know. Gordo told me.
We begin this morning with sport, and a quick turnaround in Bangladesh. Australia wrapped up the second Test against Bangladesh in just two days, winning by an innings and fifty-one runs to draw the series one-all.
That's in the Indian League, right?
Bangladesh is a national team. They played in Dhaka.
Which is the capital of Bangladesh.
It is.
Mitchell Starc took ten wickets in the match. He's a fast bowler for Australia, and that performance put them back level after they lost the first Test.
Two days. That's fast cricket.
It is.
And in golf, Rory McIlroy is making a run at the BMW Championship in Missouri.
He shot a five-under sixty-five in the third round in St. Louis to move into a share of second place.
The tournament is being played at Bellerive Country Club outside St. Louis, not in the city itself.
I said Missouri.
You did.
McIlroy said after the round that catching the leader, Wyndham Clark, would take a heroic effort.
Clark is five shots clear going into the final round.
In Britain this morning, housing minister Matthew Pennycook has announced that mayors will be able to overrule local councils on major planning decisions.
He called the change essential for helping mayors effectively deliver new homes. The announcement has drawn sharp reaction from local councils across England.
That's like our county commissioners being able to overrule Fairmont city planning.
Similar. The UK mayors oversee larger regions.
How much larger?
The Mayor of Greater Manchester oversees about three million people.
That's larger.
And in soccer, Manchester City has sold forward Savinho to Tottenham for seventy-five million pounds.
The transfer is raising questions about City's multi-club ownership model. City owns several teams around the world and moves players between them.
Savinho played for Troyes in France before City brought him to Manchester.
Which is in the southern part of France.
Troyes is northeast of Paris, about ninety miles.
Northeast.
In the Champagne region.
I was thinking of Nice.
Nice is on the Mediterranean.
Coming up in just a few minutes, Criminal Intent. A story out of Wexler County involving copper wire, a storage unit, and three men who are now in custody.
The sheriff says they found two hundred feet of it.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
Good morning. We have four tributes tonight, and I will say this: the nineties were a different time.
They were not this different.
You will see what I mean.
Our one hundred and nineteenth Florida Man Tribute begins back in August of last year, when a nostalgia-focused snack company made what can only be described as a bold marketing decision: battery-flavored corn chips.
Described by the company as tasting like licking a nine-volt battery.
Which is a taste I had hoped never to experience again after childhood.
The company said it was targeting millennials hungry for nineties nostalgia.
I remember the nineties. We did not spend them licking batteries on purpose.
Our second tribute comes from December of last year, when Mug Root Beer released its first-ever limited edition cologne, just in time for the holidays.
For the root beer fan who has ever wanted to voluntarily wear it.
The company said it was aimed at people who wanted to smell like their favorite beverage.
I have many questions and I will not be asking any of them.
Also in December, a raccoon fell through the ceiling of a Grand Geneva restaurant, bit a guest, and was later euthanized and sent for rabies testing.
Walworth County deputies and wildlife officials responded. The guest received medical treatment.
And our fourth tribute comes from January of this year, when a food delivery robot was demolished by a Brightline train in Miami after getting stuck on the tracks.
The entire incident was caught on camera. The train did not stop. The robot did not survive.
No injuries to passengers were reported.
I have watched that video seven times since we got it.
Coming up in just a few minutes on Animals: a very determined parrot, a dog who has learned to open doors, and the sea urchin video is back.
Of course it is.
ANIMALS
All right. Time for the good news.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown is measured by how many views a video has gained in the last four days, not its total.
Three videos tonight, counted down.
At number three: Woman Kicks Seal Off Her Boat. Posted by guipascale on the sixteenth of August. One million, nine hundred and seventy-seven thousand new views.
Number two: a video YouTube files under Pets and Animals, posted by Benji Void on the sixteenth. Two million, five hundred and ninety-seven thousand new views in the last four days.
And number one on the KRAK 11 animal countdown this hour: When Kindness Goes Both Ways. Posted by Windypaws on the twentieth of August. Five million, twenty-one thousand, five hundred and thirty-seven new views.
That is a new number one.
The sea urchin video is back on the countdown at number five, but it is not on top anymore.
You watched it nineteen times.
I stand by that.
All three videos are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. The link is in the description.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News: Pete Crow-Armstrong hit another walk-off for the Cubs last night. That is thirty-six consecutive games, which is a major league record he set himself.
And the Brewers won their forty-seventh straight. A quick look at sports is next.
KRAK 11 News continues.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
You have been waiting for this all morning.
I have the Brewers score and I am absolutely ready to tell you about it.
The Brewers beat the Reds tonight, six to three. That is forty-eight straight wins, extending their franchise record into territory nobody has seen in major league baseball.
Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a walk-off RBI for the Cubs in the ninth. White Sox, five to four. That is thirty-seven consecutive games with a walk-off RBI.
Thirty-seven straight games ending on his bat.
In chess, Magnus Carlsen defended his title at the Esports World Cup for the eighth straight year, beating Fabiano Caruana three and a half to two and a half.
And in the Yahoo Sports preseason college football poll, Ohio State is ranked fourth heading into the season.
Coming up at the top of the hour, we have more news from Wexler County and around the world.
Thank you for watching KRAK 11 News.
