Good morning. This is KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour. Coming up: The World Desk — trade talks between the United States and Canada have collapsed, and the President says Canada wants something he is not offering.
Criminal Intent — a Florida man, back in September of twenty twenty-four, fired several shots into his neighbor's home. He was aiming at a tree.
Animals — the sea urchin video has led the KRAK 11 animal countdown for seven consecutive days. I have thoughts.
Of course you do.
And A Quick Look at Sports — a federal judge has ruled the Trump administration's seventy-five-country visa ban was illegal. That is coming up in just a few minutes.
Right here on KRAK 11.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning, Wexler County. This is KRAK 11 News.
It is three in the morning.
I have been here since one.
I know you have.
We begin overseas, where trade tensions between the United States and Canada are now in their third day. President Trump said this morning that Canada wants the economic benefits of statehood without actually joining the union.
Prime Minister Carney responded within the hour, saying Canada has no interest in becoming anything other than Canada, and that the tariffs his government announced will proceed as scheduled.
The tariffs go into effect at midnight Ottawa time, which is about nine hours from now. The White House has said it will respond in kind, though no details have been provided.
Closer to home, the British Prime Minister is planning to give mayors new authority over local planning decisions.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham will announce later this morning that regional mayors will be able to overrule local councils on major development projects. The goal is to speed up construction of housing and infrastructure in areas where local opposition has slowed or stopped it entirely.
So if a city council says no to a housing project, the mayor of the region can say yes anyway.
That is the intent, yes.
How do the councils feel about this?
About the way you would expect.
In Wales, a baby who doctors feared had only days to live is now thriving after a life-saving heart operation. This is a good story.
The parents are Catrin and Dylan, and they were told their son would need a donor heart. The wait for that could take years.
Surgeons performed an operation to buy him time while they wait for a match. The hospital said this morning that he is doing remarkably well.
That is very good news.
It is.
And in Australia, the organizers of the Sydney Marathon are standing by their decision not to fix a mistake on ten thousand medals.
The medals for the 2026 race have an engraving of a German stadium on them. Not a Sydney stadium. A German one.
Which stadium?
The BBC does not say. Just that it is definitively not in Australia.
And they are not going to fix it.
The race director said this morning, and I am quoting him, that they are not going to run from it.
That is a very good pun.
It is a solid pun.
He planned that.
He absolutely planned that.
Before we take a break - if you are watching this on YouTube at three in the morning, we are glad you are here. Subscribing genuinely helps a station our size.
It costs you nothing and it means a great deal to this newsroom.
Still ahead this morning - Criminal Intent. A story out of the midwest that started with a missing car and ended with three arrests and a very surprised owner.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning, Wexler County. Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
Our one hundred and eighteenth Florida Man Tribute in forty-three weeks.
I keep a tally.
You do.
We begin this morning with treasure hunters working the 1715 Treasure Fleet shipwreck off Florida's Treasure Coast. Back in October of last year, they pulled up more than a thousand gold and silver coins worth a million dollars.
Three hundred years underwater and still worth a million.
The fleet sank in a hurricane in seventeen fifteen. Eleven ships went down carrying the Spanish treasury home from Havana. A gram of gold is worth about eighty dollars at current prices, Deb, and they found a lot more than a gram.
Patient work.
Also back in November of last year, a Michigan man named JD Vance was sentenced in federal court for threatening to kill the president and vice president. The vice president at the time was also named JD Vance.
Same initials, same name.
Prosecutors alleged he made the threats online. He was convicted and sentenced. The paperwork must have been clarifying.
Prosecutors alleged.
Back in September of twenty twenty-four, a Florida man suspected of drinking in his backyard fired several shots at a tree. Volusia County deputies said he missed the tree, hit his fence, and put rounds through his neighbor's home where two children and their parents were inside.
No injuries reported. The family took cover and called nine one one.
Deputies said the suspect was cooperative. The tree was described as skinny.
Still standing.
And back in November of last year, Firehouse Subs launched a limited-edition Gravy Extinguisher to rescue what the company called dry turkeys at Thanksgiving.
Shaped like a fire extinguisher, filled with gravy.
The company said it was adding humor and flavor to the holiday. I would have used one.
You would have used two.
Coming up in just a few minutes, the sea urchin video has now led the KRAK 11 animal countdown for seven consecutive days. I have thoughts.
You have watched it nineteen times.
And I stand by every viewing. Animals, next.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown. Three videos ranked by how many views they gained in the last four days.
Seven days at number one.
The sea urchin video is still leading.
At number three, a video YouTube filed under Pets and Animals. Posted by Benji Void on the sixteenth. Two million five hundred eighty thousand new views.
At number two, a video called When Kindness Goes Both Ways. Posted by Windypaws on the twentieth. Four million nine hundred fifty-six thousand new views. YouTube's own trending chart has it at number one.
And at number one for the seventh straight day, the sea urchin video. Posted by Nick DiGiovanni on the nineteenth. Five million seven hundred forty thousand new views.
Seven consecutive days.
I have watched it nineteen times and I still do not understand what is happening in that video.
It is just the title, Chip. Sea urchin.
And people cannot stop watching it.
All three videos are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. The link is in the description.
Still ahead this morning, a quick look at sports. Pete Crow-Armstrong is now at thirty-five consecutive games with a walk-off RBI.
And the Brewers are still winning.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cardinals five to two this afternoon. That is forty-seven straight wins, extending their franchise record.
Forty-seven.
Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a walk-off RBI single in the ninth for the Cubs against the White Sox. Cubs win four to three. That is thirty-six consecutive games with a walk-off RBI for Crow-Armstrong, extending his major league record.
Ohio State opens fall camp on Monday. The Buckeyes are ranked fourth in the Yahoo Sports preseason college football poll.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour - we will have the latest on that visa ruling, and what it means for seventy-five countries. That is next.
Thank you for watching.
