KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening. This is KRAK 11 News for Wexler County. It is eleven o'clock and we have a full hour ahead.
Tonight — Swedish police say the victim in a sword attack was seventeen years old. Two boys injured, one suspect in custody.
A Florida man breaks into a home in the middle of the night and stabs a woman while she slept. That's our one hundred and thirteenth tribute, and it happened back in December.
The sea urchin video is still number one on the KRAK 11 animal countdown — day five at the top, and still gaining views.
Nineteen times.
And in sports — what to know about one of the president's most trusted aides, and why we are covering it in sports.
That is a very good question.
We start tonight with The World Desk, where a Swedish community is grieving after an attack with a sword left one teenager dead and two others injured.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening. This is The World Desk.
Six times since this morning.
The robot video. It is up to forty-four million now.
We begin tonight with word from the British government that a cyberattack shut down a small power plant in the United Kingdom in July.
The plant is in Wales.
The plant is in England.
Wales is in England.
It is not. Officials say at no point during the attack was there a risk to the UK's energy system, and the facility was operating normally within hours.
They have not identified who carried out the attack.
They have not. But the government is confirming that the incident happened and that they are treating it as a criminal matter.
So a small plant, offline for hours, no one hurt, and the power stayed on.
That is correct. Chip, from China tonight, the humanoid robot that ran the hundred meters faster than Usain Bolt has now been watched forty-four million times.
I have watched it six times since this morning.
The robot ran the distance in nine point three nine seconds at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing.
Bolt's record was nine point five eight.
It was. The robot is Chinese-made, weighs about a hundred and twenty pounds, and runs on battery power.
And it does not get tired.
It does not. The organizers say the games are designed to advance robotics research, and this was the fastest sprint they have recorded.
Forty-four million people have now seen a robot outrun the fastest man in history.
They have. And from London tonight, Britain will begin confining some serious violent and sexual offenders to restricted zones of just a few miles after they leave prison on probation.
The program starts in October.
It does. Offenders on probation would be required to stay within a defined geographic area, sometimes only a few miles across, and violations would result in immediate arrest.
This is London doing what we already do here.
Similar, yes. The British government says the zones will be tailored to individual offenders and monitored electronically, and they are describing it as an additional layer of public protection.
When does the first one go into effect?
October first. The Ministry of Justice has not said how many offenders will be subject to the restrictions in the first phase.
But they are treating it as a pilot program.
They are. If it works, they will expand it. Chip, if you are watching us on YouTube, a quick favor. Subscribing costs you nothing, but it helps a small station like ours more than you might think.
We are glad you are here.
We are. And let us know what you think in the comments. We read them, and we answer them when we can.
I answered six this morning.
At four in the morning.
I was preparing.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News, Criminal Intent. A story from Wexler County that raises questions we cannot answer yet, but we are going to tell you what we know and what the sheriff is saying as of this hour.
That is coming up in a few minutes.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Tonight on the KRAK 11 Blotter, we continue our Florida Man Tribute series with four stories that defy reasonable explanation.
We begin with a car that became airborne.
Of course we do.
Back in December of twenty twenty-four, a car flew off the bed of a tow truck and landed on BART train tracks in Castro Valley, California.
Authorities said the tow truck was involved in a crash on Interstate five-eighty, causing the vehicle it was carrying to become airborne and land directly on the rails.
BART service was suspended for forty minutes while crews removed it. No injuries were reported.
Back in October of last year, animal control in southern California responded to a call about a python at an In-N-Out Burger location.
The large snake was found inside the restaurant. Authorities captured it without incident and said it is not available for adoption.
They specified that in the statement.
Back in August of last year, a restroom at Bear Head Lake State Park in northern Minnesota was named a finalist for the twenty twenty-five America's Best Restroom contest.
The contest recognizes outstanding public facilities across the country. The park restroom was praised for cleanliness and design.
And back in December twenty twenty-four, deputies in Lake County, Florida say a man broke into a woman's home, stabbed her while she was sleeping, and attempted to flee from officers.
Deputies say the woman was treated at a local hospital. The suspect was taken into custody and faces criminal charges.
That brings KRAK Eleven's Florida Man Tribute count to one hundred and fourteen in forty-three weeks.
You have memorized that number.
I keep a tally.
You do.
Still ahead tonight, the sea urchin video has now led our animal countdown for five straight days. We will tell you why.
That is next on KRAK Eleven News.
ANIMALS
Time now for the Good News Desk.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown, which ranks videos by how many views they have gained over the last three days.
Not their total. The growth.
At number three tonight, a video filed by YouTube under Pets and Animals. It is called Check for Context. Posted by Benji Void on the sixteenth. Two million four hundred and seventy-one thousand new views.
At number two, a video called When Kindness Goes Both Ways. Posted by Windypaws on the twentieth. Four million six hundred and ninety-one thousand new views in three days.
YouTube's own trending chart has it at number one.
And at number one tonight, for the fifth consecutive day, the sea urchin video. Posted by Nick DiGiovanni on the nineteenth. Five million six hundred and twenty thousand new views.
Five days.
It is extraordinary content, Deb.
You have watched it nineteen times.
That count has not changed.
I noticed.
All three videos are on the KRAK 11 News Reel, and the link is in the description below.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News, Pete Crow-Armstrong has done it again. A quick look at sports is next.
Thirty-two straight games.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
I have four results and they are all excellent.
You say that every night.
Pete Crow-Armstrong makes it thirty-three straight games with a walk-off RBI as the Cubs beat the White Sox four to three in eleven innings. That extends his own major league record.
The Brewers won their forty-fourth straight game, beating the Reds nine to two. Milwaukee is now twenty-two games clear at the top of the Central.
Magnus Carlsen defended his chess title at the Esports World Cup for the sixth straight year, beating Fabiano Caruana three and a half to two and a half in the final.
And Fury-Joshua is fourteen days out. June fourteenth at Wembley.
That is the scoreboard.
Coming up at the top of the hour — we will have the sheriff's briefing on the Fairmont bridge collapse, live.
We will see you then.
