KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening. This is KRAK 11 News. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk, where charges have now been filed against the father who left his seven-year-old alone on Mount Fuji.
Criminal Intent - our one hundred and sixth Florida Man Tribute. A year ago in the Nevada desert, Burning Man saw something a lot stranger than the usual fire and art.
That is a very low bar, Chip.
Animals - the sea urchin video has now led our countdown for three straight days. I have watched it nineteen times.
And A Quick Look at Sports, where the Supreme Court has ruled on something that is not about sports at all. Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News - The World Desk, and a construction project at a Trump property that went all the way to the highest court in the land. We'll tell you why.
Stay with us.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We're following three international stories tonight, and we have an update on the robot that has now been watched forty-three million times.
I have watched it four times since this morning.
You are a quarter of a million views behind on the sea urchin.
We begin tonight with an update from Japan, where prosecutors in Tokyo have now charged the father who left his seven-year-old son alone on Mount Fuji during a family hike.
The father had taken both his sons hiking on Mount Fuji, which is Japan's most sacred volcano.
Most sacred mountain.
There is lava though.
There is not active lava. The last eruption was seventeen oh seven.
Which is recent for a volcano.
Prosecutors say the man left the child alone on a trail and continued the hike with his older son. The boy was found several hours later by other climbers and was not injured.
Charges were filed this morning Tokyo time. The father faces up to five years in prison.
From China tonight, the humanoid robot that broke Usain Bolt's hundred meter sprint record has now been watched forty-three million times.
The robot ran the distance in nine point three nine seconds at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing. Bolt's record was nine point five eight.
The company that built the robot, Honor, still has not released an official time, but observers at the event recorded nine point three nine.
So it is unofficial.
The video shows the robot running on a track with what appears to be perfect form, and the views have climbed by more than a million since this morning.
And in Australia, a woman convicted of killing three people with poisoned mushrooms may have her conviction overturned because of a hotel booking error.
Erin Patterson was convicted last year of serving a fatal mushroom lunch to her in-laws and a family friend. All three died.
Her lawyers are now arguing that a key witness may have had the wrong date, because a table tennis tournament the witness said she attended was actually held the day before, and hotel records show the witness checked out early.
The witness also testified she bought throat lozenges at a pharmacy near the hotel, but the pharmacy has no record of the transaction on the day she claimed.
Patterson's legal team says if the witness had her dates wrong, the timeline prosecutors used to convict may collapse. The court has not yet ruled on the motion.
A table tennis tournament and a throat lozenge.
The details that matter.
Still to come on KRAK 11 News, we have a story I have been waiting to tell you about since this afternoon.
It involves a county commissioner, a campaign donation, and a very unfortunate set of security camera angles.
That is Criminal Intent, coming up in a few minutes on KRAK 11 News.
We will be right back.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Tonight on the blotter, a Florida Man Tribute that takes us to California and Nevada.
We have four items tonight, and all of them happened last year.
But they are very much worth revisiting.
We lead with a woman who, back in August of last year, got herself trapped inside a Chuck E. Cheese game in Burbank, California.
The viral video shows she put her arm through a hole that was, according to management, not intended for hands.
Fire crews were called. She was freed without injury. The machine was not so fortunate.
Also back in August of last year, a teddy bear wrapped in what looked like human skin was found at a gas station in Victorville, California.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office investigated. They arrested a person of interest on suspicion of creating the item.
Police said it was a prank. No charges were ultimately filed.
And in Nevada, back in September of last year, Burning Man festival was marred by what authorities described as a string of shocking incidents.
Police were investigating a death at the event while responding to multiple other reports including theft, assault, and drug-related incidents.
Pershing County authorities said they were treating the death as suspicious. No arrests were announced at that time.
KRAK 11 has now aired one hundred and seven Florida Man Tributes in forty-three weeks.
A new record.
It is not a record anyone is chasing.
No, but we are very good at it.
If you are watching on YouTube, a subscription costs you nothing and it helps a station this size more than you might think.
Still ahead tonight, Animals. A sheep who drives her own car, changes the radio station, and has become a social media star.
She is also certified sassy.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown.
Ranked by how many views a video gained in the last three days, not its lifetime total.
We count three of them tonight.
At number three, a video that has held that spot for eight straight days now. Baby Deer Trapped On A Freezing Pond, posted by Sassy on the thirteenth of August.
Three point two million new views in the last three days. Fifteen point eight million total.
At number two, When Kindness Goes Both Ways, posted by Windypaws on the twentieth.
Four and a half million new views. Six point one million total.
And at number one, leading the KRAK 11 animal countdown for three consecutive days, Sea Urchin, posted by Nick DiGiovanni on the nineteenth of August.
Five and a half million new views in the last three days. Six point eight million total.
I have now watched it nineteen times.
That is a considerable number.
All three of those videos are on the KRAK 11 News Reel, and the link is in the description.
Still ahead tonight, A Quick Look at Sports. The Brewers are now at forty-one straight.
That is a franchise record by a considerable margin.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
You love a winning streak.
I love a winning streak that has no business still going.
The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cardinals tonight, five to three, and that is forty-two straight wins. Forty-two. They have not lost a game since the Fourth of July.
Pete Crow-Armstrong did it again for the Cubs. Walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth against the White Sox, two to one. That is thirty-one consecutive games with a walk-off RBI.
Thirty-one games. There is no precedent for this.
In boxing, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will meet at Wembley Stadium on June fourteenth. Both camps confirmed this afternoon.
And Magnus Carlsen defended his chess title at the Esports World Cup for the fifth consecutive year, beating Fabiano Caruana three games to one in Abu Dhabi.
Still ahead, the next KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour. We will see you then.
Good night, Wexler County.
