KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. I am Chip Marlowe. This is KRAK 11 News, Wexler County's number one rated newscast, at the top of the hour.
I am Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk, where Canada says it will match United States tariffs dollar for dollar after trade talks break down overnight.
Criminal Intent, where we have our eighty-fourth Florida Man Tribute — the White House unveiling a website about aliens that walk among us. That happened in May and we are just now catching up.
Animals, where the sea urchin video is still number one on the KRAK 11 countdown and you have still watched it nine times.
I remain confused. And A Quick Look at Sports, where Usain Bolt — the fastest human being who has ever lived — is registered to play Sunday league football in Manchester.
Still ahead on The World Desk — fifty percent tariffs on twenty billion dollars of Canadian imports, and the clock is ticking. We will tell you when they take effect.
KRAK 11 News continues.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning, Wexler County. It's eight o'clock and this is the World Desk.
We have developments from Ottawa, an investigation in Japan, and Australia has made a decision about a medal.
The medal story is my favorite.
It is a good one. We begin with breaking developments in the U.S.-Canada trade dispute. Negotiations that continued through the night have now completely collapsed.
Ottawa is calling this morning's breakdown a complete failure of diplomatic efforts. The Prime Minister's office released a statement at four a.m. Eastern time saying all options are now on the table.
And Canada's about to make good on that threat. The retaliatory tariffs still take effect at noon.
They do. That's four hours from now. The fifty percent levy applies to twenty billion dollars of Canadian imports, matching the U.S. tariffs dollar for dollar, as promised.
That is a significant escalation between two very close trading partners.
It is. And Ottawa says they were prepared to negotiate until midnight but the talks ended at eleven forty-three. Seventeen minutes before the deadline.
In Japan, there is now a police investigation into that Mount Fuji incident we told you about earlier this morning. The father is being questioned about why he left his seven-year-old son on the mountain alone.
The man had taken both his sons up the mountain, but when the younger boy got tired, the father decided to continue the hike with just the older child.
Other hikers found the boy and stayed with him until authorities arrived. He was unharmed.
Mount Fuji is over twelve thousand feet. Higher than most of the Rockies, I believe.
The Rockies go to fourteen thousand.
Close, though.
Not especially.
Either way, you do not leave a seven-year-old on a mountain.
You do not. Japanese authorities are taking it very seriously. The father returned several hours later and is cooperating with the investigation.
In Australia, the Sydney Marathon has announced they are scrapping this year's finisher medal and starting over after what organizers are calling an unacceptable design error.
The double-sided medal was supposed to feature Sydney landmarks on one side and the stadium on the other. But the stadium they depicted was in Munich, not Sydney.
How does that happen?
Online detectives spotted it within minutes of the unveiling. The design firm has apologized and the marathon is commissioning an entirely new medal.
The race is three months away. They have time.
They do. And organizers say anyone who already registered will receive the corrected version, not the one with Munich on it.
I would keep the wrong one. That is a collector's item now.
It absolutely is.
In the United States, new details this morning about that laptop fire on an American Airlines flight we reported earlier. The passenger whose laptop caught fire has now been treated and released from the hospital.
Flight 2398 made an emergency landing after the pilot reported a cabin fire in the back of the aircraft. Crew members extinguished the fire quickly and the plane landed safely.
The FAA is investigating the cause. Initial reports suggest a lithium battery in the laptop overheated.
All passengers were evacuated on the runway. No other injuries reported.
If you're watching on YouTube, subscribe if you haven't already. It helps KRAK 11 more than you might think.
Still ahead this morning, Criminal Intent. A Wexler County man is facing charges after police say he tried to sell a stolen riding mower to the person he stole it from.
That is coming up in a few minutes.
You are watching KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Time for the Blotter.
Our eighty-fifth Florida Man tribute.
In forty-three weeks.
You keep track.
We begin with a White House website unveiled back in May of this year. It tracks immigration encounters and arrests, and it is called 'Aliens Walk Among Us.'
That is the actual name of the website.
Space-themed. UFO-style language throughout.
Back in March of last year, a Florida man allegedly threatened to assassinate the president and launch missiles to destroy New York in a series of nine-one-one calls, according to prosecutors.
Police say he made those calls repeatedly over a two-week period. He was arrested and charged.
Back in February of last year, a Florida man posed as a Homeland Security officer at an Orlando apartment complex, checking for undocumented residents according to the affidavit.
He was not with Homeland Security. He was arrested for impersonating a federal officer.
He wore a vest that said 'police.'
Which police say he bought online.
And two men were arrested several months after they attempted to break into two Florida gun shops during Hurricane Milton. This was back in February of last year.
They did not get in. Police say surveillance cameras recorded them trying to pry open the doors while the wind was still blowing.
Authorities say they matched images from the cameras to other arrests and identified both suspects.
Eighty-five tributes in forty-three weeks.
We are proud of that number.
You are proud of that number.
I stand by it.
Still ahead this morning, the sea urchin video is still on top of the animal countdown for the fortieth straight hour. Something is trying to catch it.
Animals, next.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The KRAK 11 countdown. Three videos ranked by how many views each one gained in the last three days.

You have watched that video nine times.
I still do not know what is happening.
All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. The link is in the description.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News, a quick look at sports. The Brewers have now won thirty-one straight games and the streak continues.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
We have results from Milwaukee, Chicago, and London. And Usain Bolt is playing Sunday league.
The fastest man in history is playing parks and rec.
The Brewers beat the Reds four to two in Milwaukee, extending their franchise record to thirty-two straight wins.
Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a walk-off single in the ninth against the White Sox, making it eighteen consecutive games with a walk-off RBI.
Tottenham beat West Ham two to nothing at the London Stadium. Roberto De Zerbi wins his third straight as Spurs manager.
And Usain Bolt is registered to play Sunday league football in Manchester.
That is sports. Coming up at the top of the hour, Marguerite has reported a second raccoon and we have verification.
We will see you in a few minutes.
