KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. This is KRAK 11 News at six o'clock. Four segments this hour, and we start with breaking news from England.
The World Desk: a police pursuit ends in multiple deaths near Middlesbrough after a crash between a police vehicle and a civilian car. The watchdog has opened an investigation.
Criminal Intent brings you another Florida Man Tribute. Back in March, a meteor came down over Ohio and Pennsylvania with what the weather service called a very loud boom.
Animals: the sea urchin video is still number one on the KRAK 11 countdown. Thirty-eight hours at the top now, and I have watched it nine times.
And you still do not know what is happening.
I do not.
A Quick Look at Sports has the Brewers now at twenty-nine straight wins, Pete Crow-Armstrong at fifteen consecutive walk-off games, and news on U.S. borrowing costs.
Still ahead on The World Desk: what investigators are looking at after the crash near Middlesbrough, and how many people were involved. KRAK 11 News continues in one minute.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. This is The World Desk.
Good morning, Chip. We have four stories from overnight, and one of them involves a marathon medal that depicts the wrong continent.
I have read the wire copy twice and I am still not sure how this happened.
We begin in Australia, where organizers of the Sydney Marathon have had to acknowledge a rather significant error on this year's finisher medal.
The double-sided medal was meant to depict landmarks from Sydney. Instead, one side shows Munich's Olympic Stadium.
Munich is roughly nine thousand miles from Sydney.
Both cities hosted the Olympics, though.
That is true. The error was caught by people online after the medal design was unveiled. The marathon is still three months away, so there is time to correct it.
In the United States, American Airlines Flight 2398 made an emergency landing yesterday after a laptop caught fire in the cabin.
The pilot reported a cabin fire in the back of the aircraft. The plane landed safely and one passenger was treated at the airport.
No one else was injured. The airline has not said what caused the laptop to catch fire.
In England, a number of people have died after a police vehicle and a car collided during a pursuit near Middlesbrough.
Ambulance officials say a number of patients died at the scene. The police watchdog has opened an investigation.
Middlesbrough is in North Yorkshire, in the northeast of England.
Near the Scottish border.
It is about a hundred and twenty miles south of the Scottish border.
In the northeast.
We will update this story when more details are confirmed.
Deb.
Chip.
Have you ever been to North Yorkshire?
I have not.
Neither have I. And yet here we are, telling people where it is.
That is the job.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News, Criminal Intent. A search warrant, a quiet street in Fairmont, and a question that does not have an answer yet.
We will have that story in a few minutes.
We will.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning, Wexler County. Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter, and this morning we are reaching across state lines to salute the great state of Michigan.
This is our eighty-second Florida Man Tribute in forty-three weeks.
Michigan has been very generous to us.
Back in February of this year, someone walked into a Goodwill store in Washtenaw County, Michigan, dropped off a donation bag, and left without a word.
Staff opened the bag and found a human skull.
Police say they believe it is a medical specimen, possibly from an estate clearance, and they would very much like to speak with whoever donated it.
Police say that, to be clear.
The donor has not been charged with anything.
Also in Michigan, back in January of this year, state police received reports of a donkey running loose near Holly, headed in the direction of Interstate 75.
The donkey's name is Dolly.
Troopers intercepted Dolly near the intersection of I-75 and Holly Road before she could reach the freeway. She was returned to her farm unharmed.
No charges were filed.
In Huron Township, also in February, police dash camera video captured a pursuit that began on dirt roads and ended in a landfill after the suspect's vehicle became stuck in the mud.
Officers say they recovered nine firearms from the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
Prosecutors allege.
And back in March of this year, residents across Ohio and Pennsylvania reported hearing a loud boom early in the morning.
The National Weather Service in Cleveland confirmed it was a meteor entering the atmosphere.
No arrests were made.
Still to come this morning on KRAK 11 News, a video involving a sea urchin that I have now watched nine times and still do not understand.
It has led our animal countdown for thirty-eight consecutive hours.
Animals, in a few minutes.
ANIMALS
Time now for the Good News Desk.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown ranks videos by how many views they have gained in the last three days, not by total views.
We count three, then two, then one.
At number three, a video called Baby Deer Trapped On A Freezing Pond. Posted by Sassy on the thirteenth of August. Three million new views in the last three days.
That video has held third place for six straight days now.
At number two, Why Coyotes And Badgers Hunt Together. Posted by Zack D. Films on the nineteenth. Three and a half million new views.
YouTube has that one at number one on their own trending chart. We have it at two.
And at number one, for the thirty-eighth consecutive hour, a video called Sea Urchin. Posted by Nick DiGiovanni on the nineteenth of August. Four point seven million new views in the last three days.
You have watched that video nine times.
I have.
And you still do not know what is happening.
I do not.
All three of those are on the KRAK 11 News Reel, and the link is in the description.
Still ahead this morning, a quick look at sports. The Brewers have now won twenty-nine straight, and Pete Crow-Armstrong has done something fifteen games in a row that nobody in baseball history has ever done twice.
We will be right back.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at the scoreboard.
Thirty straight.
I have run out of superlatives.
The Milwaukee Brewers have won thirty consecutive games. They beat the Cardinals last night, five to two, extending a franchise record that was already unthinkable three weeks ago.
Pete Crow-Armstrong drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for the sixteenth straight game. The Cubs beat the White Sox, four to three.
Tottenham beat Leicester three to one in Roberto De Zerbi's first match as manager. Richarlison scored twice.
That is the scoreboard. Still ahead this morning, the next KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour.
Thank you for watching. We will see you at seven.
