KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. This is KRAK 11 News. I am Chip Marlowe.
I am Deb Sarkissian. Thank you for being here at four in the morning.
On KRAK 11 News this hour: The World Desk. Amanda Serrano made to work for her fiftieth career win, and the fight draws three point four million views on TikTok in three days.
Criminal Intent. A Florida Man Tribute from back in December of last year. Three children ages eight, eleven and twelve allegedly steal a vehicle and lead police on a chase. The driver learned how to drive on YouTube.
Our seventy-ninth tribute in forty-three weeks.
Animals. The sea urchin video has now led the KRAK 11 animal countdown for thirty-six consecutive hours. And later, A Quick Look At Sports. Tornadoes touch down in New York and Delaware as severe storms bring torrential rain to the Mid-Atlantic.
The World Desk is up next, and Amanda Serrano's fight draws more views in three days than most fights draw in a year.
Stay with us.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We have breaking news on the Canadian tariff fight this morning.
The deadline passed at midnight. Ottawa says matching tariffs go into effect within the hour.
Canada announced retaliation will take effect before noon Eastern time. The U.S. imposed a fifty percent levy on twenty billion dollars of Canadian imports just after midnight.
The talks broke down in Edmonton, and the Canadian government says its response will match dollar for dollar.
Ottawa. The talks were in Ottawa.
I said Ottawa.
You said Edmonton.
They're both capitals.
One of them is.
In sports, Amanda Serrano won her fiftieth career fight this week, and more than three million people watched it on TikTok.
The Puerto Rican boxer fought Lucrecia Manzur in what the BBC is calling a hard-fought decision victory. Serrano is one of the most decorated fighters in the sport.
Three point four million views. That's more than most fights get on cable.
It is. Social media is where a lot of people are finding her now.
In European football, a former Blackburn winger is facing Real Madrid this weekend, and he says he is ready for the challenge.
Tyrhys Dolan spent five years with Blackburn Rovers before joining Espanyol last summer. On Saturday, he takes on José Mourinho and one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Mourinho does not coach Real Madrid anymore, Chip. He's managing Fenerbahçe in Turkey.
Then who's coaching Real?
Carlo Ancelotti.
Well, Dolan's still facing Real Madrid.
That part is correct.
In Hong Kong, more independent bookstores that serve mainland Chinese readers are closing their doors. The BBC is reporting this morning that several shops selling books banned in mainland China have shut down in recent months.
For years, those stores offered mainland readers access to history and ideas not available at home. That window is narrowing now.
If you're watching on YouTube this morning, we'd be grateful if you subscribed. A station this size really does count every one.
It costs you nothing, and it helps us keep doing this.
And tell us what you think in the comments. We read them.
We answer them as well.
I answer more than she does.
You answer at four in the morning.
The news does not sleep, Deb.
Still ahead this morning, CRIMINAL INTENT. We have an update on a case that has been developing for weeks, and the details are just coming in now.
That is coming up in just a few minutes, here on KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning, Wexler County. Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
Four Florida Man Tributes this morning, Chip.
That is a record for a single segment.
It is why we come in at four in the morning.
We begin with our tribute this morning, though this one comes to us from Ohio. Back in December of last year, three children ages eight, eleven, and twelve allegedly stole a vehicle and led police on a brief pursuit through the state.
Chip, where did an eight-year-old learn to drive?
Authorities say the driver learned from YouTube.
That is not what YouTube is for.
Police say all three children could face juvenile charges. The pursuit was brief, which we are grateful for.
That is now eighty Florida Man Tributes in forty-three weeks.
In South Carolina, back in June of last year, two men playing disc golf were struck by a falling object. The object was a shark.
Chip.
A bird, likely an eagle or osprey, dropped its catch midair. The shark landed on the course. Both golfers were unharmed. The shark was not.
That is not a hazard you prepare for.
Staying with Florida now. Back in March of last year, a man at a sports bar became upset about the music and the karaoke machine not working. When another customer tried to calm him down, police say the man pulled a gun and pointed it at that customer outside the bar.
The suspect is facing charges, police said.
Nobody was injured. We do not have details on what song was being performed at the time.
I would not have asked.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News, we have Animals coming up. The sea urchin video has now led our countdown for thirty-six consecutive hours. Deb has a theory about why.
I think people like not knowing what is happening.
I have watched it nine times. I still do not know.
That is why it is still number one.
We will be right back.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown, which ranks by views gained in the last three days, not total views.
We count three through one.
Number three - Baby Deer Trapped On A Freezing Pond. Posted by Sassy on the thirteenth of August. Two million nine hundred eighty-four thousand new views in the last three days.
That video has held third place for five straight days.
Number two - Why Coyotes And Badgers Hunt Together. Posted by Zack D. Films on the nineteenth. Three million four hundred sixty-five thousand new views.
YouTube's own trending chart has that one at number one.
Number one - Sea Urchin. Posted by Nick DiGiovanni on the nineteenth of August. Four million six hundred thirty-three thousand new views in the last three days.
That video has now led the KRAK 11 animal countdown for thirty-seven consecutive hours.
I have watched it nine times and I still do not know what is happening.
Not knowing what is happening might be why it is still number one.
All three of those videos are on the KRAK 11 News Reel, and the link is in the description.
Still ahead this morning - A Quick Look At Sports. Pete Crow-Armstrong has done something twelve straight games that has never been done before.
We will tell you what it is when we come back.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
Good morning — four scores for you, and one of them is making history.
You have been waiting for this one all night.
The Brewers beat the Reds last night, six to two — that is twenty-seven straight wins, extending their own franchise record.
The Cubs walked it off again — Pete Crow-Armstrong with his thirteenth straight walk-off RBI, Cubs over the White Sox, five to four.
That is a major league record.
It is.
Magnus Carlsen defended his chess title at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh — he won the final four games to three.
Coming up at the top of the hour — we are carrying the sheriff's briefing on the Wayne County incident live.
That is the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour. Thank you for watching.
