KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. You are watching KRAK 11 News. I am Chip Marlowe.
And I am Deb Sarkissian. It is three o'clock in the morning in Fairmont. Thank you for being here.
This hour: The World Desk, where Canada has announced dollar-for-dollar retaliation on American tariffs and says the response will land within hours.
Criminal Intent, where a California man has been convicted of stalking after breaking into a woman's home and sucking her toes while she slept.
That is our seventy-fourth Florida Man Tribute.
Animals, where the sea urchin video is still in first place on the KRAK 11 countdown after thirty-five hours, and A Quick Look at Sports, where we will explain how the national debt affects consumers around the world.
Coming up in just a few minutes on The World Desk: the trade war escalates overnight, and we will tell you exactly what Canada is planning to do about it.
Stay with us.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. This is THE WORLD DESK.
Three in the morning and Canada has just announced when the retaliation starts.
Before noon Eastern.
Before noon. So by the time we are back on at five this afternoon, we will know exactly what it looks like.
Canada says it will retaliate within hours. The government in Ottawa announced this morning that dollar-for-dollar tariffs on American goods will take effect before noon Eastern time.
Canadian officials say the response will target U.S. steel, aluminum, and agricultural products. They have not published a dollar figure yet, but they have promised it will match the American levy exactly.
That is the third breakdown in the talks, and they were all in Edmonton.
Ottawa, Chip. The talks were in Ottawa.
I am aware of that.
Prince Harry and Meghan are coming back to the United Kingdom, but not as working members of the royal family. The BBC is reporting this morning that they are negotiating a very different kind of arrangement.
What kind of arrangement?
They are looking at brand partnerships, media projects, and charitable work that does not involve the palace. Meghan is still in talks for a role in the second season of The Gentlemen on Netflix, and Harry has been meeting with conservation groups.
So they are coming back, but not back.
That is exactly right. They will be in the country, they will not be cutting ribbons.
New satellite analysis shows Israel has sharply increased settlement construction in the occupied West Bank over the last four years. The imagery documents new housing, road networks, and infrastructure on Palestinian land.
The BBC commissioned the analysis from satellite mapping firms. The construction includes bypass roads that connect settlements to each other and to Israel, and housing developments that are significantly larger than what was there in twenty-twenty.
Has the Israeli government responded?
Not yet. The report was published early this morning London time.
In Washington, the BBC has identified which questions President Trump is most likely to shut down. Analysis of recent press briefings shows a clear pattern: he cuts off reporters when they ask about legal matters, financial disclosure, or foreign policy details.
He told a reporter to be quiet three times in a row on Tuesday.
What was the question?
Whether he had spoken to his legal team about the civil suit in New York. He said quiet, quiet, quiet, and moved to the next reporter.
The pattern holds.

And in the Premier League, Arsenal made it two wins from two matches with a four-two victory over Newcastle at the Emirates. They are playing with real confidence early in this title defence.
Saka scored twice. Martinelli and Havertz each added one. Newcastle pulled two back in the second half but Arsenal controlled the match from the opening whistle.
Two matches, two wins, ten goals scored.
They look like a team that won the title and remembered how it felt.
They do.
Still ahead this morning, CRIMINAL INTENT. A case in Wexler County that has been closed for six months is open again, and the sheriff's office is not saying why.
We will have that in a few minutes.
KRAK 11 News continues.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning, Wexler County. Time now for the Blotter.
We have four entries for the KRAK 11 Florida Man Tribute this morning, and we are leading with the case of the sleeping victim and what the Stanislaus County Sheriff described as a very specific criminal intent.
This is the toe-sucking case.
Back in March of this year, a Modesto man broke into a home while the occupant slept. Prosecutors say he then committed what the district attorney called a sex act involving her toes.
He was convicted last week on charges of stalking and burglary with intent to commit a sex act.
He faces up to four and a half years in state prison. Sentencing is scheduled for later this month.
Our second tribute involves a crowded beach, a public park, and what Walton County deputies described as a complete absence of clothing.
Back in April of last year, deputies arrested a man at Topsail State Park after beachgoers reported he was exposing himself in front of families. He was found with beer and women's underwear, neither of which he was wearing.
He was charged with indecent exposure and disorderly conduct.
Tribute number three involves what Pasco County deputies called a traffic stop with unusual candor. Back in March of last year, a man released from state prison three months earlier was pulled over with children in the car.
Deputies say he admitted to smoking marijuana in the vehicle moments before the stop. When they found methamphetamine in his underwear, he told the deputy, quote, there's nothing wrong with drugs.
He was arrested on multiple drug charges and child endangerment.
And our final tribute involves what Volusia County deputies called an escalating dispute over an UberEats delivery.
Back in March of last year, a Deltona man allegedly attacked a delivery driver late Saturday night after she arrived with an alcohol order. Deputies say the confrontation turned physical after a disagreement over the delivery.
He was charged with aggravated assault and simple battery. The driver was treated at the scene.
That brings our total to seventy-eight Florida Man Tributes in forty-three weeks.
You have run four in one hour.
The wire was generous.
Coming up in a few minutes on Animals - the sea urchin video is still in first place, and Chip still does not know what is happening in it.
I have watched it nine times.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
Three videos ranked by how many views they have gained in the last three days.
The sea urchin is still in first place.
Thirty-five hours now.
Number three on the countdown.
Baby Deer Trapped On A Freezing Pond. Posted by Sassy. Two million nine hundred seventy-three thousand new views. It has held third place for four straight days.
Number two.
Why Coyotes And Badgers Hunt Together. Posted by Zack D. Films. Three million four hundred forty-four thousand new views. YouTube has it at number one on their trending chart.
And number one.
Sea Urchin. Posted by Nick DiGiovanni. Four million six hundred one thousand new views. It has led our count for thirty-five consecutive hours.
You have watched it twice.
I have.
I have watched it nine times.
Do you know what is happening yet?
I do not.
All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. The link is in the description.
Coming up in just a few minutes, a quick look at sports. The Brewers are now at twenty-five wins in a row, and Pete Crow-Armstrong is doing something we have never seen.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
The Brewers won again.
They did.
Milwaukee beat the Cardinals eight to three. That is twenty-six straight wins, a franchise record and the longest winning streak in baseball in thirty-six years.
Pete Crow-Armstrong hit another walk-off RBI for the Cubs last night. That is twelve consecutive games with a walk-off RBI. Cubs beat the White Sox five to four.
Arsenal beat Newcastle four to two at the Emirates. Bukayo Saka scored twice in the first half.
Coming up at the top of the hour - breaking news out of Ottawa. The next KRAK 11 News starts in three minutes.
Good morning, Wexler County.
