KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. This is KRAK 11 News, Fairmont. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour: The World Desk, where Canadian negotiators say they still have work to do with less than twenty-four hours until the trade deadline.
Criminal Intent, where a raccoon broke into a Virginia liquor store back in December of last year, sampled the inventory, and passed out in the bathroom. Our sixty-ninth Florida Man Tribute.
Animals, where the sea urchin video has now led our countdown for thirty-two consecutive hours.
I have watched it nine times now.
And A Quick Look At Sports. All that, still ahead on KRAK 11 News. We start at The World Desk, where the clock is running in Ottawa.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning, Wexler County. This is KRAK 11 News.
We have news from Ottawa, Hong Kong, and the West Bank this morning.
And the Duchess of Sussex is reportedly in talks for her first acting role since leaving royal duties.
We begin with an update from Ottawa, where Canada's chief trade negotiator briefed reporters within the last hour. He says there is still work to do before Friday night's deadline to finalize a deal with the United States.
That deadline is nine p.m. Eastern tomorrow. The US has said if there is no agreement by then, new tariffs take effect at midnight.
Both sides say they are making progress, but the negotiator would not say whether he expected a deal before the clock runs out.
In Hong Kong, independent bookstores that have long provided mainland Chinese readers access to banned books are shutting down. Several owners have closed their doors in the last two months.
Those shops have operated for years selling political writing and history books that are not permitted across the border in Taiwan.
Mainland China.
That is what I said.
You said Taiwan.
I meant the larger one.
These bookstores have been a window for readers who cannot access that material at home. Now several owners say the risk of staying open has become too high.
New satellite analysis shows Israel has significantly expanded settlement construction and road building on occupied Palestinian land in the West Bank over the last several years.
The analysis documents new construction and infrastructure across areas designated as Palestinian territory under international law. The expansion has accelerated since twenty twenty-two.
In entertainment news, the BBC is reporting the Duchess of Sussex is in talks for a role in the second season of the Netflix series The Gentlemen.
This would be her first significant acting role since her marriage to Prince Harry. The series is based on the Guy Ritchie film.
No formal agreement has been announced, but people familiar with the discussions say conversations are ongoing.
And in Las Vegas, the trial of the man accused of killing Tupac Shakur continues. Prosecutors today played a recording from two thousand eight in which Duane Davis told detectives his nephew fired the fatal shots.
Davis is charged with murder in connection with the nineteen ninety-six shooting. Defense attorneys say the interview was coerced.
And in the Premier League, Arsenal beat Newcastle four-two at the Emirates, making it two wins from two matches in their title defence.
They are playing with real confidence early in the season. Two matches, two wins, ten goals scored.
They played Coventry twice this afternoon.
Newcastle.
I am confident about that.
I know.
If you are watching on YouTube this morning, a subscription really does help a station our size. We are glad you turned up.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News, Criminal Intent. A case out of Portland involving a man who called police on himself, then changed his story three times before officers arrived.
That is coming up in a few minutes.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning. This is Criminal Intent.
We have a Florida Man Tribute from December of last year that I have been saving. It involves a raccoon, a liquor store, and a very unfortunate choice of hiding place.
I have read the police report twice and it does not get less strange.
Ashland, Virginia. The ABC Store. Closed for the night. Secure perimeter. Or so they thought.
Back in December of last year, police say a raccoon broke into the store, helped itself to a variety of spirits, and was found passed out in the bathroom.
Authorities said the raccoon was intoxicated.
The raccoon was released without charges. The bathroom was described as a crime scene.
That is our seventieth Florida Man Tribute in forty-three weeks.
Also from July 2024, Georgia police are looking for a Florida man they believe stole medical stretchers from multiple funeral homes. Investigators say he may be connected to similar thefts in Dallas.
Police say the suspect has not been apprehended.
From July 2024, federal prosecutors charged a Florida man with making written threats against President Trump and Senator Vance and their families. This was days after the Pennsylvania assassination attempt.
Prosecutors allege the threats were made in writing. The man was arrested and charged.
And from May of last year, deputies in Florida say a man fled from law enforcement, ran into a private home, and hid in a child's bedroom closet. He was found and arrested.
The child was not harmed. Authorities say the suspect faces multiple charges.
Four tributes this morning. The raccoon was in Virginia but the spirit of Florida transcends state lines.
You have been waiting to say that.
Since I read the wire at four this morning.
Still ahead — Animals. The sea urchin video is still in first place. Thirty-two consecutive hours now, and I have a theory about why.
I have watched it nine times and I still do not know what is happening.
That might be exactly why people keep watching.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
Three videos that gained ground in the last two days. We count them down from three to one.
The sea urchin is still in first place.
Thirty-two hours now.
Number three: Baby Deer Trapped On A Freezing Pond. Posted by Sassy. Two million nine hundred forty-five thousand new views in the last two days.
That video has been in third place for four straight days.
Number two: Why Coyotes And Badgers Hunt Together. Posted by Zack D. Films. Three million three hundred eighty-three thousand new views.
YouTube has that one at number one on their own trending chart.
And number one: Sea Urchin. Posted by Nick DiGiovanni. Four million five hundred three thousand new views in the last two days. Thirty-two consecutive hours in first place on the KRAK 11 countdown.
You have now watched it nine times.
I have.
Do you know what is happening in it yet?
I do not.
That might be why people keep watching it.
All three of those videos are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. The link is in the description.
Still ahead this morning: the Brewers are now at twenty-two straight wins and Pete Crow-Armstrong just set a major league record. A quick look at sports is coming up.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
The Brewers have now won twenty-three straight games. They beat the Reds tonight, six to three, extending their franchise record to a length nobody in Milwaukee ever thought they would see.
Pete Crow-Armstrong made it nine consecutive walk-off RBIs for the Cubs. They beat the White Sox four to three in the tenth. That is now a major league record that has stood alone for one day.
Arsenal three, Brighton one at the Emirates. Three wins from three matches. The title defence is proceeding exactly as planned.
You have watched Ohio State for thirty-three years.
I have.
They open their season in seven days.
I am aware.
