KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening, Wexler County. It is eleven o'clock and this is KRAK 11 News. I'm Chip Marlowe.
I'm Deb Sarkissian. Negotiations between the United States and Canada are going to the final hours tonight, and the deadline is Friday.
We have THE WORLD DESK on that at the top of the hour. Then CRIMINAL INTENT with a Florida Man Tribute from last October that involved nine hot dogs, nine beers, and a challenge the Phillies instantly regretted.
Nine of each.
Nine of each. ANIMALS brings you the sea urchin video, which has now led our countdown for thirty-one consecutive hours and added four million views in two days.
And A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS on United States borrowing costs, which climbed again today despite attempts to bring them down. That is still ahead on KRAK 11 News.
The World Desk is next.
THE WORLD DESK
The World Desk.
Good evening. We have six stories from around the world tonight, starting with a deadline in Ottawa.
They are negotiating right up to the wire.
Twenty-four hours to go. We will see if they make it.
We start with an update from Ottawa. Canadian trade negotiators say they are still working tonight, with the deadline to finalize a deal with the United States now less than twenty-four hours away.
The deadline is set for eleven-fifty-nine Friday night Eastern time. Canadian officials say they have made progress but still have more work to do.
That is cutting it very close.
It is. Talks are continuing through the night in Ottawa.
In Hong Kong, independent bookstores that have operated for years as a rare window into banned literature are now closing. These shops have sold books mainland China does not allow, giving readers access to political writing and history unavailable at home.
But in recent months, several of these stores have shut their doors. Owners say the pressure has become too great.
Those were important places.
They were. For mainland visitors especially.
New satellite analysis shows Israel has significantly expanded settlement construction and road building on Palestinian land in the West Bank. The expansion has accelerated in recent years, with new building documented across multiple areas.
The analysis used high-resolution imagery to track construction over the past several years, showing both new settlements and infrastructure projects on occupied land.
In Las Vegas, the trial of the man accused of killing Tupac Shakur continues. Prosecutors played a recording today from two thousand eight in which Duane Davis told police his nephew fired the fatal shots.
Davis conducted that interview with detectives sixteen years after the shooting. The jury heard the full recording this afternoon.
And in Premier League football, Arsenal beat Newcastle four-two at the Emirates, making it two wins from two matches in their title defence. They are playing with real confidence early in the season.
They played Coventry twice this afternoon.
Newcastle.
I am aware.
You said Coventry.
I was testing you.
Arsenal scored three goals in the second half. They are ahead of Manchester City on goal difference at the top of the table.
That is a good start for the defending champions.
In entertainment news, the BBC is reporting the Duchess of Sussex is in talks for a role in the second season of the Netflix series The Gentlemen.
If confirmed, this would be Meghan Markle's first significant acting role since her marriage to Prince Harry. No official announcement has been made yet.
The Gentlemen is a Guy Ritchie show.
It is. The first season was released on Netflix earlier this year.
If you are watching us on YouTube, we would be grateful if you subscribed. It helps a station this size more than you might think.
It costs nothing and it means a great deal to us.
Still ahead tonight, Criminal Intent. A case that took sixteen years to bring to trial.
More on the story when we come back.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. It is time for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
Tonight we have four Florida Man Tributes.
Four in one night is a record for this segment.
The wire had a busy week.
We begin back in October of last year. The Philadelphia Phillies offered what they called the nine-nine-nine challenge during their playoff run.
Nine hot dogs, nine beers, nine innings.
That is a felony quantity of both items. The box was eighty-five dollars and it came with a commemorative hat.
You got to keep the hat.
Also back in November of last year, a woman in Florida called nine-one-one after medical remains were delivered to her home instead of her prescription medication.
Police said the remains were intended for a research facility nearby. The shipper said it was a labeling error.
Also in November, hundreds of cremated human remains were recovered from the Nevada desert after a man stumbled upon them outside Searchlight, about an hour south of Las Vegas.
Investigators said they believe the remains came from a funeral home that closed years earlier. The case remains under investigation.
And also last November, a Florida man was arrested after prosecutors alleged he was paid by a woman from the United Kingdom to kill her. She had been reported missing after traveling to the United States.
She was found dead in Florida. The man was charged with murder. We will not be providing further detail on this one.
We have now carried sixty-nine Florida Man Tributes in forty-three weeks.
It does not slow down.
We do not go looking for them, Deb. The wire finds us.
Every single week.
Still ahead tonight, it is Animals. The sea urchin video is still in first place and Deb says she knows why.
I have a theory.
We will hear it in a few minutes.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
Three videos tonight, ranked by how many views they gained in the last two days.
We count down from three.
At number three, unchanged since our last count, a video called Baby Deer Trapped On A Freezing Pond. Posted by Sassy on the thirteenth of August. Two million nine hundred thirty-seven thousand new views.
That video has held third place for four days now.
People keep coming back to it.
At number two, also unchanged, Why Coyotes And Badgers Hunt Together. Posted by Zack D. Films on the nineteenth. Three million three hundred sixty-three thousand new views in the last two days.
And at number one, unchanged for the thirty-first consecutive hour, a video posted by Nick DiGiovanni on the nineteenth of August. Four million four hundred sixty-six thousand new views in the last two days.
Thirty-one hours.
You said last hour you had a theory about why it is still in first.
I have watched it eight times, Deb. I still do not know what is happening in that video.
That might be the theory right there.
All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. The link is in the description.
Coming up in just a few minutes, a quick look at sports. The Brewers have now won twenty-one straight games, and we will have that number when we come back.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
The scoreboard is full tonight.
It is a good night to love sports.
Magnus Carlsen has defended his world chess title at the Esports World Cup, beating Gukesh Dommaraju four and a half to three and a half. That's his third consecutive title.
The Milwaukee Brewers have extended their franchise record to twenty-two straight wins, beating the Pirates six to one. That's the longest active winning streak in baseball.
Pete Crow-Armstrong makes it eight consecutive games with a walk-off RBI as the Cubs beat the White Sox three to two in eleven innings. That is a major league record.
Arsenal maintain their perfect start with a four-two win over Newcastle at the Emirates. That's two wins from two in their title defence.
Eight days until Ohio State opens their season.
You have mentioned that.
Still ahead tonight: the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour. We'll have an update on the Canadian trade deadline, and Marguerite called about the raccoon. That is KRAK 11 News.
