KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening. This is KRAK 11 News at nine o'clock. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk, where the Met Office is now saying this El Niño could be the strongest in living memory.
Criminal Intent, where thirteen Penn State students are now facing charges for what police say was a drug-dealing operation run out of a fraternity house.
Animals, where the sea urchin video has now led our countdown for twenty-nine consecutive hours.
And A Quick Look At Sports, where a woman in South Florida took her pet duck to the beach back in March.
That is not sports.
It is a Florida Man Tribute and we are putting it where there is room. Still ahead tonight: The World Desk, where the Met Office says this developing El Niño is going to change weather patterns across the entire Pacific. That is next.
THE WORLD DESK
THE WORLD DESK.
Good evening.
You have pronouncing practice tonight.
I do not need practice.
You always do it correctly the first time.
We begin with an update on the El Niño system developing over the Pacific Ocean. The Met Office in London has revised its forecast tonight. They now say this could be the strongest El Niño in living memory, not just the strongest on record.
That is a significant change from this afternoon.
It is. The system is expected to bring heavy rainfall to parts of South America, severe drought to Southeast Asia, and disrupted weather patterns across both hemispheres through the end of the year.
And that will affect agricultural production in both regions.
It will. The Met Office says the window to prepare is closing quickly.
In Canada, police say they are still investigating whether this afternoon's stabbing attack at a Sikh temple in Mississauga was motivated by hate. Two people were injured and one suspect is in custody.
Both victims are being treated at hospital. Police have not yet released the suspect's identity or confirmed a motive.
The temple's leadership has asked the community to remain calm while the investigation continues.
They have. A vigil is planned for tomorrow evening.
In entertainment news, the BBC is reporting the Duchess of Sussex is in talks for a role in the second season of the Netflix series The Gentlemen. This would be her first significant acting role since her marriage to Prince Harry.
The series is based on the Guy Ritchie film of the same name. It was renewed for a second season in March.
She was in California when they shot the first season.
The first season was filmed in London.
Well, she was nearby.
Five thousand miles.
By Pacific standards.
Netflix has not confirmed the casting. The Duchess's representatives declined to comment.
In Las Vegas, testimony continues in the murder trial of Duane Davis, the man accused of killing rapper Tupac Shakur. Prosecutors today played a recording from two thousand eight in which Davis told police his nephew fired the fatal shots.
The nephew, Orlando Anderson, died in nineteen ninety-eight. Davis has pleaded not guilty to murder.
The trial is expected to last three weeks.
And in the Middle East, new satellite analysis shows Israel has significantly expanded settlements and road construction on Palestinian land in the West Bank in recent years.
The analysis covers the period from twenty twenty to the present and shows new roads connecting settlements to Israeli infrastructure.
The United Nations has called the settlements illegal under international law. Israel disputes that characterization.
Peace talks have been stalled since twenty fourteen.
They have.
In Premier League football, Arsenal made it two wins from two matches in their title defence. They beat Newcastle four-two at the Emirates last night.
That is Newcastle, not Coventry.
I know that.
You said Coventry twice this afternoon.
That was a different match.
It was the same match.
Well, they both played.
Newcastle played. Coventry played last week.
And Arsenal won both times.
They did.
Coming up in just a few minutes on KRAK 11 News - a story about a man, a plan, and a very poorly timed traffic stop. That is CRIMINAL INTENT, and it is next.
We will be right back.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
We have four from the Florida Man Tribute file tonight.
One of them involves a river, a robbery suspect, and a decision made in the middle of a police interview.
We begin back in August of 2024, when a man in Daytona Beach was being questioned by police about a robbery and decided the best course of action was to jump into the Halifax River.
Body camera footage shows the moment he stopped answering questions, turned, and jumped straight into the water mid-conversation.
Police say he swam approximately thirty yards before officers pulled him from the water and placed him under arrest.
Also back in August 2024, a Florida man was arrested after a traffic crash when deputies discovered his driver's license had been suspended since 2011 following a DUI conviction.
That is thirteen years of allegedly driving without a valid license.
Prosecutors allege.
Deputies took him into custody at the scene of the crash.
Back in August 2024, a man in Florida allegedly walked out of a local business with a piece of artwork valued at six thousand five hundred dollars after paying just fifty dollars for it.
Deputies say he switched the price tags on two pieces of art before completing the purchase at the register.
Prosecutors allege.
Surveillance footage from the store reportedly captured the entire transaction, and the suspect was later identified and charged with theft.
And back in March of this year, a woman in South Florida attracted considerable attention at the beach for her choice of companion.
She brought her pet duck.
Video shows the duck settled comfortably on a towel beside its owner, apparently enjoying the sunshine.
That brings our Florida Man Tribute count to sixty-eight in forty-three weeks.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News - the sea urchin video has now led our animal countdown for twenty-nine consecutive hours.
I have watched it eight times.
Animals, in a few minutes.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
We count down the three animal videos that gained the most views in the last two days, and all three links are on the KRAK 11 News Reel.
The sea urchin is still at number one.
Thirtieth hour?
Thirtieth consecutive hour.
Number three tonight is a video called Baby Deer Trapped On A Freezing Pond, posted by Sassy, two million nine hundred twenty-one thousand new views.
That one has held third place for four days now.
Number two is Why Coyotes And Badgers Hunt Together, from Zack D. Films, three million three hundred ten thousand new views.
YouTube's own trending chart has that one at number one. We rank by growth, they rank by total.
And number one, for the thirtieth consecutive hour, is the sea urchin video from Nick DiGiovanni. Four million three hundred seventy-three thousand new views.
I have watched that video eight times.
It is a very good video.
All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel, link is in the description below.
Still ahead tonight, Pete Crow-Armstrong keeps doing something the Cubs have not seen in a very long time. A Quick Look at Sports is next.
Stay with us.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
The Brewers beat the Cardinals tonight, five to three. That is twenty-one straight wins, a franchise record that keeps getting longer every single night.
Pete Crow-Armstrong hit another walk-off RBI for the Cubs tonight against the White Sox. That is seven consecutive games.
Seven straight.
Ohio State opens their season in eight days. They are still ranked number four in the Yahoo Sports preseason Top 25.
Thirty-three years I have been watching them. Still ahead — the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour. We will see you then.
