KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening. This is KRAK 11 News at six o'clock, Fairmont's number one rated newscast for Wexler County. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk, where a passenger rescued from the sea is now under arrest for what he said once he was back on board.
Criminal Intent, where we add one more to the Florida Man Tribute — what three friends found in their bed during a weekend rental back in March of this year.
Animals, where the sea urchin video has now led our countdown for twenty-six straight hours and YouTube still has no idea what animal that is.
And A Quick Look at Sports, where the Brewers have won seventeen straight and Coventry City put four past Arsenal.
Coventry plays in the second division.
They do now. Still ahead on KRAK 11 News: what the passenger said to the crew that got a ferry evacuated and a bomb squad called to the dock. That's coming up in just a moment on The World Desk.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening, I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We have updates from Scotland, England, and the Pacific tonight.
The Pacific story is weather and it is significant.
It is. We will start overseas. Police in Scotland have now charged the man arrested in connection with yesterday's ferry evacuation off the Isle of Arran.
The twenty-three-year-old made bomb threats aboard a CalMac ferry. Police Scotland says those threats were not credible, and the man is the same passenger who was rescued from the water earlier in the incident.
So he went into the water and then made the threat?
After they brought him back on board.
That is not how you say thank you.
From Scotland to south London, where three men have pleaded guilty to attempted burglary after police discovered they were tunneling into a jewellery shop.
Police body-camera footage shows the tunnel they had dug beneath the shop. The three men are scheduled for sentencing next month.
That is an enormous amount of work for a robbery that did not happen.
They committed to it.
You have to admire the ambition.
I do not have to admire the ambition.
Now to weather, and the Met Office has updated its El Niño forecast. The system developing over the Pacific is now expected to be the strongest on record.
Meteorologists say it will affect global weather patterns through early next year, bringing drought conditions to some regions and heavy flooding to others.
That is the Atlantic system that brings the heat.
Pacific.
I said Pacific.
You said Atlantic.
I was thinking Pacific.
The Met Office says they will update the forecast as the system develops. The current models show impact beginning in late autumn.
In sports news from England, Coventry City has now won two in a row after their four-two victory over Arsenal in Premier League play.
Christos Tzolis scored twice on his debut for Coventry. Arsenal has now lost both opening matches.
Arsenal is having a rough start.
Coventry is having a very good one.
Two games, two wins. That is how you open a season.
If you are watching us on YouTube, we would be glad if you subscribed. It costs you nothing and it makes a real difference to a station this size.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News, Criminal Intent. We will have the latest from the sheriff's office on the case they say has been moving very quickly this week.
That is a story that started with a tip on Monday and by Wednesday evening there were charges filed. Two days.
We will have the details in just a few minutes.
Criminal Intent is next.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Tonight on the Blotter — another edition of the KRAK 11 Florida Man Tribute.
We have four stories tonight. They involve a snake, a tattoo, a pair of headphones, and a medieval weapon.
Not all at once.
Back in March of this year, a group of friends rented an Airbnb in the Punta Gorda area. They arrived. They unpacked. They turned down the bed. And they found a snake curled up under the covers.
They removed it themselves. No injuries reported. The listing did not mention a snake.
The reviews were otherwise positive. Moving to Polk County now — back in January of last year, deputies say a man went on what they described as a one-man crime wave. He turned twenty-four in jail.
The sheriff's office said he had a distinctive tattoo. The word 'Alone' across his forehead.
Which made the investigation slightly easier.
Slightly.
Back in December 2024, a Florida man was fired from his job. Deputies say he blamed his co-workers. So he allegedly returned to the worksite and stole a hundred thousand dollars in tools from those colleagues.
Prosecutors allege he took power tools, hand tools, and a set of AirPods. Deputies tracked the AirPods. They led them to his home.
A hundred thousand dollars in merchandise. Caught by thirty-dollar headphones.
The person of interest is alleged to have been the person of interest.
Also back in December 2024, police say a Florida man felt someone had disrespected a family member. He responded, police allege, by threatening that person with a Molotov cocktail and a sword.
Police said he told them he wanted to make a point. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
That is the sixty-fifth Florida Man Tribute we have aired in forty-three weeks.
If you're watching us on YouTube, subscribing genuinely helps. It costs you nothing, and it means the station can keep doing this.
Still ahead tonight — Animals. The sea urchin video is still leading the countdown, and we have footage of a bird that appears to be laughing at a dog.
The dog is not laughing back.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown. Three videos tonight, ranked by how many views they have gained in the last forty-eight hours.
We count down from three.
Starting at number three.
Number three is Baby Deer Trapped On A Freezing Pond, posted by Sassy. Two million eight hundred eighty-seven thousand new views in two days. It has held third place for four days now.
Four days is a long time in this count.
Number two is Why Coyotes And Badgers Hunt Together, posted by Zack D. Films. Three million two hundred forty-two thousand new views.
And number one, unchanged for twenty-six consecutive hours, is the sea urchin video. Posted by Nick DiGiovanni. Four million one hundred eighty-nine thousand new views in the last two days.
Twenty-six hours.
You have now watched it seven times.
It is very well shot.
All three videos are on the KRAK 11 News Reel, and the link is in the description.
Still ahead tonight, a quick look at sports. The Brewers have won seventeen straight games, and Pete Crow-Armstrong has done something I have never seen in my life.
Three games in a row.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
Eighteen.
The Brewers won again.
They beat the Reds tonight, five to two. Eighteen straight wins. That is two games past the franchise record they set yesterday.
Pete Crow-Armstrong hit another walk-off RBI for the Cubs. That is four consecutive games with a walk-off.
Magnus Carlsen defended his world chess title at the Esports World Cup in Saudi Arabia. He beat India's Gukesh Dommaraju in the final.
Ohio State is ranked number four in the Yahoo Sports preseason college football Top Twenty-Five. They open against Akron on August thirtieth. I have watched them for thirty-one years.
It feels longer.
In the best way.
The next KRAK 11 News is at the top of the hour. We will have the briefing from the sheriff's office on the park fire investigation live. We are glad you are here.
