Rundown
KRAK 11 NEWS
Good afternoon. This is KRAK 11 News at four o'clock. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. This hour: the Supreme Court has issued a temporary order on a four-hundred-million-dollar construction case. The World Desk has that in a moment.
Criminal Intent this afternoon brings you our sixtieth Florida Man Tribute — a dancing robot that wouldn't stop dancing back in March. A hot pot restaurant in California. We have the video.
Animals at the half hour — the sea urchin is still number one, now leading our countdown for twenty-three consecutive hours.
I've watched it seven times.
And Sports at the bottom of the hour — a pachinko parlor arson in Osaka, five dead, and the execution happened this week. Japan's justice ministry confirmed it yesterday.
The World Desk is next.
THE WORLD DESK
Good afternoon. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We have several developing stories from overseas and around the country this afternoon.
Big news day.
It is. We begin with the Supreme Court, which has issued a temporary order allowing construction to continue on a Trump ballroom project while the high court considers the case.
The order unfreezes four hundred million dollars in construction funding. The Court has not indicated when it will issue a final ruling on the underlying dispute.
Four hundred million dollars.
That's the project total. Work resumes immediately.
Overseas now. A wildfire in a public park led investigators to human remains, and what started as a brush fire response is now a murder investigation.
A post-mortem examination determined the remains belong to a woman between the ages of twenty-five and forty-five. Authorities have not released a cause of death or identified the victim.
Firefighters found the remains while containing the blaze. The investigation is active.
In Las Vegas, a recording played in court today shows the man accused of murdering Tupac Shakur told police in two thousand eight that his nephew fired the fatal shots.
Duane Davis gave the interview to detectives sixteen years ago. The recording was entered into evidence this afternoon in the ongoing murder trial.
Sixteen years between the interview and the trial.
Twenty-eight years since Shakur was killed. The trial continues tomorrow.
That is Las Vegas, Nevada.
It is.
Near the California border.
Also near the Arizona border and the Utah border. Nevada has several neighbors.
It's a crossroads.
It's the seventh-largest state by area.
A lot of desert in that count.
Most of it, yes.
If you're finding us on YouTube, do subscribe. A station this size, it genuinely makes a difference.
And it costs you nothing at all.
Tell us what you're thinking in the comments. We read them, and we answer them when we can.
Deb answers at a reasonable hour. I answer at four in the morning.
The news doesn't require insomnia, Chip.
It rewards it.
Still ahead this afternoon on KRAK Eleven News, Criminal Intent. A case sixteen years in the making, a recording from two thousand eight, and the question of what a jury does with old evidence.
That's Criminal Intent, in just a few minutes.
We'll be right back.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good afternoon. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Welcome back to KRAK 11 News.
Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter, and this afternoon we are bringing you another Florida Man Tribute from the national wire.
Sixty-three now.
Sixty-three Florida Man Tributes in forty-three weeks, and this one is from California. Back in March of this year, a restaurant robot in Cupertino began dancing and would not stop.
The robot was serving hot pot to customers when it suddenly stopped taking commands and started what witnesses described as an extended dance performance.
Staff attempted to restrain the unit. They were unsuccessful. The robot continued to dance for approximately eleven minutes.
No arrests were made.
Also back in April, a couple eloping in the Mojave Desert experienced what prosecutors would later describe as an interruption to their wedding ceremony.
Police said a rockslide tumbled down behind them during the ceremony.
Alleged rockslide.
The rockslide happened, Chip. We have video.
In San Francisco, also in April, witnesses reported seeing the head of Elon Musk roaming the city's SOMA neighborhood. Authorities confirmed the sightings were real.
The head was not attached to a person. It was an art installation being transported through the city.
And in Indiana, a two-county pursuit involving a stolen Bud Light delivery truck ended when the suspect crashed into a Vanderburgh County sheriff's patrol car near Evansville.
Police said the chase reached speeds of forty miles per hour. The driver was taken into custody. No serious injuries were reported.
Forty miles per hour is not a high-speed pursuit.
It is if you are driving a truck full of beer.
Still ahead this afternoon, Animals. We have an update on the sea urchin video, which has now held the top spot for twenty-three consecutive hours.
That is coming up in a few minutes on KRAK 11 News.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown. These are the three videos filed under Pets and Animals that gained the most views in the last forty-eight hours.
We count by growth, not by total. What people turned up to watch yesterday, not what has been sitting there since April.
Number three.
Baby Deer Trapped On A Freezing Pond. Posted by Sassy on the thirteenth of August. Two point eight million new views in two days.
It has held third place for four days.
Number two is Why Coyotes And Badgers Hunt Together. Posted by Zack D. Films on the nineteenth. Three point one million new views.
You have watched that one thirteen times.
It is excellent nature documentary work.
Number one. Sea Urchin, posted by Nick DiGiovanni on the nineteenth of August. Four million new views in two days.
It has now led our countdown for twenty-four consecutive hours.
I have watched it seven times.
All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. The link is in the description.
Coming up on KRAK 11 News, a quick look at sports. The Brewers have won fifteen straight.
That is a franchise record.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
Good afternoon. Time now for a quick look at sports.
A lot happened today.
Records were broken, Deb.
The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cincinnati Reds, eight to four. That makes sixteen straight wins, breaking the franchise record set in 1987.
The Cubs took the crosstown from the White Sox, five to three. Pete Crow-Armstrong drove in the winning run in the tenth inning for the second game running.
Ohio State opens tomorrow against Akron. The Buckeyes are ranked number four in the preseason Top 25.
You are watching them.
I have watched them for thirty years, Deb.
Still ahead at the top of the hour — the Wexler County budget vote, and what it means for property tax.
That is the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour. Thank you for watching.
