KRAK 11 News starts now.
THE WORLD DESK
Good afternoon. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We have breaking news from Scotland, a bomb investigation in the United Kingdom, and fuel shortages across Moscow ahead of Russian Flag Day tomorrow.
Big day for the world desk.
It is. Let's begin.
We begin with breaking news from Scotland, where a CalMac ferry sailing from the Isle of Arran to the mainland was evacuated this afternoon following a bomb threat.
The MV Caledonian Isles departed Brodick at sixteen forty local time. A passenger was reported overboard shortly after departure, and authorities are treating the incident as connected to the threat.
That passenger has been rescued from the water. All other passengers were safely evacuated. Police Scotland is investigating.
That's the west coast route, correct?
It is. Brodick to Ardrossan. About an hour crossing in good weather.
And everyone is accounted for.
They are.
Also in the United Kingdom this afternoon, the media regulator Ofcom has opened an investigation into Sky News over allegations from Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
Farage claims the network sent reporters to a private residence where his adult daughter lives. Sky News has declined to comment while the investigation is underway.
Ofcom regulates all the broadcasters over there.
They do. Television, radio, and some online services.
We have the FCC.
We do.
In Russia, tomorrow is Russian Flag Day, and Moscow is preparing celebrations even as the war in Ukraine stretches into its third year.
But the impact of that war is showing up in unexpected ways across the capital. Drivers are reporting waits of several hours at petrol stations as fuel shortages spread.
Right near the Kremlin.
Across the capital, which is quite large.
But centered there.
Moscow is bigger than Los Angeles, Chip. The queues are citywide.
I think of it as compact.
It is not.
In Canada this afternoon, two people were injured in a stabbing attack at a Sikh temple. One suspect is in custody. Police in the jurisdiction have not disclosed a motive.
Both injured individuals are being treated. Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Two people hurt and one in custody.
That is correct.
And in athletics, Amy Hunt finished second in the women's two hundred meters at the Diamond League meet in Lausanne, coming off a strong performance at the European Championships last week.
Kayla White of the United States took first. Hunt's time was her second-fastest of the season.
Lausanne is in Switzerland.
It is. Western shore of Lake Geneva.
I had that.
You did not say it.
Still ahead this afternoon, CRIMINAL INTENT. A case that has puzzled investigators for eighteen months may finally be moving forward.
A timeline, a motive, and one detail that changes everything.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good afternoon, I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Time now for the Blotter, and this afternoon we're doing what we love most.
Florida Man Tributes from around the country. These are not from today, but they deserve a second look.
We begin in California, back in April of this year. Three people were sentenced for felony insurance fraud in a case investigators called Operation Bear Claw.
They filed claims on three luxury vehicles, alleging a bear had broken in and caused extensive damage to the interiors.
Investigators reviewed the security footage the suspects provided and noticed something unusual about the bear.
It was a person in a bear suit. Total claims filed came to a hundred and forty-two thousand dollars.
Also back in February, South Fulton, Georgia police had to issue a reminder to parents after one elementary school student brought an unusual beverage to lunch.
The police department posted a photo of a premixed cocktail can that looked very similar to apple juice. Twelve percent alcohol by volume.
Their caption read, quote, that is NOT apple juice. Double-check your child's lunchbox.
And in Britain, also in February, an Amazon delivery driver followed GPS directions straight onto a historic walking path across the Thames Estuary.
The van became completely stranded in what rescue crews described as an extremely dangerous mudflat. The driver was unharmed.
The path is only passable at low tide and has warning signs posted at both ends.
That brings KRAK 11 to sixty-two Florida Man Tributes in forty-three weeks.
We are running well ahead of pace.
We really are. If you're watching on YouTube and you've been here for a few of those sixty-two, a subscribe genuinely helps.
Costs you nothing. Means a great deal to a station our size.
Still ahead this afternoon, Animals. The sea urchin video is still in first place, but something new is climbing the countdown.
Twenty-three consecutive hours at the top. That's next.
ANIMALS
Time now for the Good News Desk.
Three videos tonight, counting down by how many views each one gained in the last forty-eight hours.
The sea urchin is still on top.
Twenty-three hours now.
Number three. Baby Deer Trapped On A Freezing Pond. Posted by Sassy on August thirteenth. Two million, eight hundred thirty-eight thousand new views.
That video has held third place on our count for four straight days.
Number two. Why Coyotes And Badgers Hunt Together. Posted by Zack D. Films on August nineteenth. Three million, one hundred sixty-six thousand new views.
I know you have watched that one.
Thirteen times.
Number one. Sea Urchin. Posted by Nick DiGiovanni on August nineteenth. Three million, nine hundred eighty thousand new views in the last two days.
That video has led our countdown for twenty-three consecutive hours.
All three are on the KRAK 11 News Reel. The link is in the description.
If you are watching this on YouTube, a subscription really does help a station like ours.
Coming up - a Quick Look at Sports, and the Milwaukee Brewers are doing something they have not done in fourteen years.
Fourteen straight.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
Good afternoon. Time for a quick look at sports.
The Brewers are still winning.
Fifteen straight now.
The Brewers beat the Cardinals four to two in St. Louis this afternoon. That is fifteen straight wins, and it ties the franchise record set in nineteen eighty-seven.
Magnus Carlsen defended his chess title at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh. He beat Hikaru Nakamura three games to one in the final.
And Ohio State comes in at number four in the Yahoo Sports Preseason College Football Top 25. The Buckeyes open against Akron on Saturday.
That is sports. The next KRAK 11 News is at the top of the hour, and Chip has a story about wild horses in Colorado that he has been trying not to tell me about all afternoon.
I have been very professional about it.
You have. We will see you at the top of the hour.
