KRAK 11 NEWS
Good afternoon, Wexler County. This is KRAK 11 News. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Here is what we have coming up this hour on KRAK 11.
The World Desk leads us. The Met Office is warning that the El Niño developing over the Pacific could be the strongest in living memory. That is a warning about global weather patterns, and we have the details.
Criminal Intent this afternoon. Back in July of this year, archaeologists working near the biblical site of Shiloh made an unusual discovery. We will tell you what they found.
Animals. The sea urchin video has now led our countdown for twenty consecutive hours, and it has crossed five million total views. We have the new numbers.
You have watched it five times now.
And A Quick Look at Sports. Canada's Manitoba premier is urging his country to fight as the U.S. trade deadline approaches. That is signaling a tough battle ahead for Prime Minister Carney.
Still ahead — the World Desk. The Met Office is calling this El Niño historic, and we will tell you why they are issuing that warning now.
Stay with us.
THE WORLD DESK
The World Desk.
Good afternoon, Chip.
You have been reading all morning.
The wire does not rest.
We begin with weather, and it is significant. The Met Office in Britain is warning that the El Niño developing over the Pacific Ocean is likely to be the strongest in living memory.
That is the weather pattern that starts near Hawaii.
It develops over a region of the Pacific between South America and the International Date Line. The phenomenon affects weather patterns worldwide, and this one is expected to bring extreme conditions to multiple continents.
Wexler County should prepare.
We should. The Met Office says this could affect rainfall, temperature, and storm patterns through the end of the year.
Switzerland. Authorities have recovered a body in their search for five people still missing after a fire in a Swiss Alpine town. Eight others were injured. The cause is still under investigation.
Which town, Deb?
Local police have not released the name. What we know is the fire broke out overnight, emergency crews arrived quickly, and the search is continuing this afternoon.
We will update that as we learn more.
Scotland now. Authorities have recovered a body in their search for a cruise ship passenger who fell overboard off the coast near Arbroath. The man was reported missing this morning from the Ambassador Cruise Lines vessel Ambition.
Where is Arbroath?
East coast of Scotland, about thirty-six nautical miles offshore. The alarm was raised at eight thirty-five this morning. Coast Guard crews were deployed immediately.
If you are watching on YouTube, subscribe. It helps a station this size more than you might think.
Britain. Prince Harry and six other claimants have been ordered to pay the publisher of the Daily Mail an initial nine point five four million pounds after losing their privacy case in the High Court. The total legal bill could reach thirty-four and a half million pounds.
That is a very large number.
It is. The seven claimants include Sir Elton John and actress Liz Hurley. They have seven days to pay the initial amount. The court ruled against them after they brought the case alleging unlawful information gathering by the newspaper.
That is a difficult week.
Chip, do you know where Russian Flag Day is celebrated?
Moscow.
Everywhere in Russia.
I knew that.
Coming up this afternoon on KRAK 11 News, Criminal Intent. A case out of the Midwest that involves two hundred lizards, twenty-two pairs of socks, and an airport security checkpoint.
I have questions.
You will have answers.
Criminal Intent. In a few minutes.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good afternoon, I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. This is the Blotter.
We have four stories from July of this year that prove the Florida Man Tribute is an international format.
Arkansas, Alabama, Maine, and the Middle East.
Back in July of this year, TSA officers at an Alabama airport saw something alarming on the X-ray screen during routine baggage screening.
What appeared to be explosive devices turned out to be stolen Civil War artillery rounds and cannonballs packed inside a checked bag.
The passenger was detained. Authorities said the artifacts had been stolen from historical sites.
I would like to know what the conversation was when they asked him to open the bag.
I believe they opened it for him.
Also back in July, a Maine jury awarded millions of dollars to a woman after surgeons mistakenly removed her bladder during what was supposed to be a routine procedure.
She had gone in for surgery to remove a benign ovarian cyst. The bladder was removed in error and she required reconstructive surgery.
The jury deliberated for less than two hours before awarding the settlement.
Arkansas State Police responded to what may be the strangest traffic fatality in Interstate 49 history, also in July of this year.
A portable toilet fell from a truck traveling northbound in Benton County. A fifty-six-year-old man struck it and was killed.
State Police said the truck did not stop. No charges have been filed at this time.
And back in July of this year, archaeologists made an unusual discovery at the biblical site of Shiloh, where the Ark of the Covenant was once housed.
Food remains. Ancient food remains, from thousands of years ago, preserved at the site.
Not the Ark itself.
Not the Ark. Food.
Still ahead this afternoon, we have something considerably more appealing on the animal countdown, and it does not involve ancient food.
The sea urchin video has now led our countdown for twenty consecutive hours, and we will tell you why in just a few minutes.
ANIMALS
Animals.
The sea urchin video is still at number one.
Twenty consecutive hours now.
Twenty hours.
The sea urchin video has now led the KRAK 11 animal countdown for twenty consecutive hours. Five million twenty-seven thousand three hundred fifty-two total views.
Three point seven million of those arrived in the last two days.
At number two, coyotes and badgers hunting together. Three million new views in the last forty-six hours. YouTube has that one at number one on its own trending chart.
The baby deer trapped on a freezing pond is at number three. Two point seven million new views. Fifteen million total.
That is a good video.
It is a very good video.
At number four, a video filed under pets and animals but with no animal named in the title. One point three million new views.
Rounding out the top five, another video with no animal in the title. One point one million new views. YouTube files it as pets and animals, so we count it.
How many times have you watched the sea urchin video now?
Five.
That we know of.
Coming up in just a few minutes, A Quick Look At Sports. The Brewers are still winning, Aaron Judge is still hitting them out, and we have college football rankings to argue about.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
The Yankees had a very good night.
You are enjoying this.
The Yankees took it from Boston last night, seven to four. Aaron Judge drove in two more. That is forty-two RBI this season.
The Brewers beat the Reds three to one in Milwaukee. That is eleven straight wins for the Brewers.
Eleven in a row is a very good month.
The Cubs walked it off against the White Sox, four to three in ten innings. Pete Crow-Armstrong drove in the winner.
More news from Wexler County coming up at the top of the hour. We are glad you are here.
