Rundown
KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. It is ten o'clock in Wexler County and this is KRAK 11 News.
This morning on KRAK 11 — Prince Harry and six others lose a privacy lawsuit and could pay up to thirty-four million pounds. We have The World Desk.
A Florida man, a tanning bed, and a story that is now part of the permanent record. Criminal Intent.
The sea urchin video has now led our animal countdown for eighteen straight hours. Animals. And a mother and a best friend remember a girl lost one year ago today. A Quick Look at Sports.
That is not sports.
It is where we put it.
Still ahead this morning — Prince Harry, Sir Elton John and Liz Hurley lose their High Court case against the Daily Mail's publisher, and the costs are already in the millions. The World Desk is next on KRAK 11 News.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We have several developments from overseas this morning, including a ruling in London that is going to cost Prince Harry and six others quite a bit of money.
How much money?
Nine and a half million pounds to start, and it could go as high as twenty-five million more.
That is a significant sum even for a prince.
The High Court in London ruled against Prince Harry and six other claimants in their privacy case against the publisher of the Daily Mail. The seven include Sir Elton John and actress Liz Hurley.
They have been ordered to pay the initial nine and a half million pounds in costs, with the possibility of up to twenty-five million more depending on how the rest of the proceedings go.
That case centered on allegations of privacy violations by the publisher.
It did. And this comes as palace sources continue to say the rift between Prince Harry and his brother William remains as deep as ever, with no sign of reconciliation despite earlier reports.
Still in England. A man appeared in court this morning in Manchester and entered a plea in connection with an attack on a synagogue in the city.
He denied a charge that he failed to disclose information connected to the attack. The case continues.
Manchester is in the northwest of England.
I am aware of that.
I wanted to be sure.
Now to the Middle East, where Israel has moved thirty families into a West Bank settlement that has been closed for nearly twenty years.
The government describes them as pioneer families. The move has drawn international protests and left Palestinian residents in nearby areas fearful about what comes next.
The settlement is called Kadim. It was evacuated in two thousand five and has remained closed until this week.
That is in the Jordan Valley.
It is in the northern West Bank, near the town of Jenin.
Which is also near the Jordan Valley.
Everything is near something if the map is small enough, Chip.
That is a fair point.
And before we take a break, if you are watching on YouTube, we would be grateful if you subscribed. It makes a real difference to a station this size.
It costs you nothing and it helps us keep doing this every morning.
We will take a short break. When we come back, Criminal Intent, and a case this morning involving a theft that went exactly as poorly as you would expect.
Also this morning, we will read your comments. We do answer them, and we have been keeping up better this week.
You answered fourteen of them before I got here.
Fifteen.
Criminal Intent is next.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning. Welcome to KRAK 11 News.
This is our fifty-fourth Florida Man Tribute in forty-two weeks, and Chip, this one involves a tanning bed.
I have read the incident report three times and it does not get less strange.
Then let's tell it.
Lake County Sheriff's Office reports that back in July of last year, a suspect entered a fitness facility at closing time, disrobed completely, and attempted to set fire to gym equipment.
Deputies say the suspect then ran through the building without clothing and concealed himself inside a tanning bed.
He was discovered by staff during the security sweep. A perimeter response would have been warranted, but he was already inside the tanning bed when they found him.
He was arrested and charged, Chip.
The Pentagon released video this month of an unidentified object tracked over the Middle East back in August. Military sensors recorded what appears to be a fast-moving aerial phenomenon.
The latest release is part of ongoing government disclosure on unidentified aerial phenomena. No explanation has been provided for the object's movement or origin.
Back in May, a former government scientist testified that the United States has recovered remains of four separate species of non-human origin from downed craft. Dr. Hal Puthoff cited individuals involved in the recoveries.
Dr. Puthoff alleges the materials are in government custody. No agency has confirmed the claim.
Also in May, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Junior was filmed removing two black racer snakes from Dr. Mehmet Oz's patio.
North American racers are non-venomous. Secretary Kennedy relocated both animals safely.
That is a person of interest who knows how to handle wildlife.
He was not a person of interest, Chip. He was the Secretary of Health and Human Services removing snakes from a patio.
Fair point.
If you are just finding us on YouTube, subscribing genuinely helps a small station. We appreciate you turning up.
Still ahead this morning - a sea otter that has led our animal countdown for seventeen consecutive hours. That video is coming up when ANIMALS continues on KRAK 11 News.
ANIMALS
Good morning. This is the KRAK 11 animal countdown.
The sea urchin is still at number one.
Eighteen consecutive hours.
You have watched it four times.
The sea urchin video has gained three point six million new views in the last forty-five hours. Four point nine million total. YouTube's trending chart has it at thirteen.
We have it at one.
At number two, coyotes and badgers hunting together. Nearly three million new views. I have now watched that video eleven times.
YouTube has that one at number one on their trending chart.
They count differently than we do.
At number three, a baby deer trapped on a freezing pond. Two point seven million new views in the last forty-five hours. The video was posted August thirteenth and now has fifteen million total views.
That one gets to me a little bit.
Number four is a video YouTube filed under Pets and Animals. One point three million new views. We are checking context on the title.
And at five, another one we are checking. One point one million new views in forty-five hours.
The bobcat video is no longer on our countdown. It held number five for fifteen days.
That was a very steady performer.
Still ahead this morning, a quick look at sports. The Brewers have now won eight straight games.
And Aaron Judge hit his thirty-ninth home run of the season.
Sports, in just a few minutes on KRAK 11 News.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
We have got a lot of results this morning.
You always say that when the Brewers win.
Magnus Carlsen defended his title at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh yesterday, taking the chess championship for the second straight year.
The Brewers beat the Cardinals six to three last night in Saint Louis. That makes it nine straight wins for Milwaukee.
Pete Crow-Armstrong got the Cubs' first walk-off hit against the White Sox by a rookie in franchise history. Chicago won it four to three in the tenth.
Aaron Judge hit his fortieth home run of the season. Yankees beat the Guardians eight to six in Cleveland.
And Ohio State comes in at number four in the Yahoo Sports preseason college football poll. They open against Akron on August thirtieth.
Coming up at the top of the hour — we will have the latest from the county planning commission on that rezoning vote.
That is the morning news. Thank you for watching.
