KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. This is KRAK 11 News, Wexler County. I am Chip Marlowe.
I am Deb Sarkissian. This hour: the growing impact of the war in Russia as drivers wait hours for petrol. A Florida Man Tribute from back in October. The sea urchin video, unchanged at number one for seventeen hours. And a story one year later.
The World Desk. Criminal Intent. Animals. And A Quick Look At Sports.
That is a very quick look.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News: Steve Rosenberg reports from Moscow as fuel queues grow longer and Russian Flag Day approaches. We will have that story in a few minutes.
Stay with us.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. This is THE WORLD DESK.
Morning, Chip. We have four items this hour. Two from the UK, one from Switzerland, and one from Moscow.
The Swiss story is the glacier.
It is. Two more hikers identified after thirty-two years. We will get to that.
We begin in Manchester, where a man has denied a charge related to an attack on a synagogue last year. Hekmat Omar Ali Hakim appeared in court Thursday.
The forty-nine-year-old is charged with failing to disclose information regarding terrorist activity. He entered a not guilty plea.
The case will proceed to trial. No date has been set.
London. Three people have admitted to an arson attack at Persian media offices in West London earlier this year.
Police were called to Volant Media's offices in February after an ignited container was thrown at the building. All three defendants pleaded guilty Thursday.
Sentencing is scheduled for next month.
The Alps. Swiss authorities say two more hikers missing since the early nineties have been identified after glacier melt revealed their remains.
The two went missing in nineteen ninety-two. The Trift Glacier has now receded enough to reveal what happened to them.
That glacier is near the French border.
The Italian border. In the Bernese Oberland.
That is what I said.
You said France.
I was giving context.
Officials say the glacier has lost more than sixty meters of ice in the last three decades. That is nearly two hundred feet.
Families have been notified.
Moscow. The capital is preparing for Russian Flag Day tomorrow, but drivers are waiting hours in fuel queues as the war continues to affect daily life.
Officials say there is no shortage of patriotism. They did not address the shortage of petrol.
Reporting from Moscow indicates the growing impact of the war is being felt in every part of the city. Celebrations are scheduled for tomorrow.
And in golf news, LIV Golf held its final event in its current format this week. The future of the circuit remains uncertain.
The league that shook up professional golf three years ago is now restructuring. Players and officials offered strained smiles about what comes next.
No announcement yet on the new format.
That is THE WORLD DESK. We will be back with more international news throughout the morning.
If you are watching us on YouTube this morning, we would be grateful if you subscribed. It costs you nothing and it helps this station considerably.
We are glad you are here.
Still ahead this morning, CRIMINAL INTENT. A case out of Wexler County involving stolen copper wiring and a very unfortunate miscalculation.
The suspect was hospitalized.
He was.
That is next on KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning. This is Criminal Intent.
We have four stories from Florida this morning, all of them from the archives, and all of them remarkable for different reasons.
One of them involves a nine-foot alligator.
That is not even the lead.
Back in May of this year, severe thunderstorms moved through Marion County and a lightning strike killed four cows and a calf on a single farm.
The National Weather Service in Jacksonville confirmed the strike. The farm owner said the animals were sheltering near a fence line when it happened.
Back in June of last year, Jacksonville authorities executed a drug warrant on the city's northwest side and found considerably more than they were looking for.
Inside the residence: evidence of a dog-fighting ring, multiple animals in what officials described as inhumane conditions, and a nine-foot alligator.
Nine feet.
The suspect was arrested on multiple charges including animal cruelty and possession of an alligator without a permit. The alligator was relocated.
That is our fifty-fourth Florida Man Tribute in forty-two weeks.
Back in October of last year, Lake Wales detectives arrested a man who had been living what they described as a seemingly normal life in Tampa for more than four decades.
He is charged in connection with a double murder and arson from nineteen eighty-four. Prosecutors allege he fled the jurisdiction and assumed a new identity.
Prosecutors allege.
Prosecutors allege. He is awaiting trial.
Back in November of last year, a memorial service in Florida for a homicide victim turned into a second crime scene when a gunman opened fire on the mourners.
One person was killed. The suspect was arrested and is charged with murder. Police said the motive remains under investigation.
Police said.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK Eleven News: the sea urchin video has now led the animal countdown for seventeen consecutive hours.
It gained another three and a half million views since we last looked.
We will have the full top five when Animals airs in a few minutes.
You are watching KRAK Eleven News.
ANIMALS
Animals.
The sea urchin has now been leading our count for seventeen consecutive hours.
That is a very long time for a sea urchin to hold the top spot.
I have watched it four times now.
Number one on the KRAK 11 animal countdown, the sea urchin video. Three and a half million new views in the last forty-four hours. Nearly five million total. Posted by Nick DiGiovanni two days ago.
At number two, a coyote and badger hunting together. Just under three million new views. Posted by Zack D. Films, and YouTube has it ranked number one on their own trending chart.
I have watched that one eleven times.
At number three, a baby deer trapped on a freezing pond. Two point seven million new views in the last forty-four hours. More than fifteen million total. Posted by Sassy on the thirteenth.
That is a very good video.
Number four is a video posted by Benji Void. One point three million new views. Four million total. YouTube files it under Pets and Animals.
And at number five, a video from Hopeless Core posted two days ago. One point one million new views, two point three million total.
The bobcat video is no longer on our count.
Fifteen days is a very good run.
Still ahead this morning, a quick look at sports. Aaron Judge hit another one last night, and the Brewers are still winning.
KRAK 11 News continues in a moment.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
The scoreboard.
Four scores, Deb.
Magnus Carlsen defended his chess title at the twenty twenty-six Esports World Cup in Riyadh. He beat China's Ding Liren in the final round to take the championship.
The Cubs beat the White Sox three to two in extra innings. Pete Crow-Armstrong drove in the winning run in the tenth—first rookie in franchise history to get a walk-off hit against the Sox.
First time in eighty-four years.
The Brewers beat the Marlins six to four in Miami. That makes it eight straight wins for Milwaukee. Aaron Judge hit his thirty-ninth home run of the season as the Yankees took down the Orioles seven to three.
And Ohio State is ranked number four in the Yahoo Sports preseason college football Top Twenty-Five. They open the season next week against Indiana.
Coming up at the top of the hour—more on the Wexler County levee repair and how long the detour will actually take. That is next on KRAK eleven news.
Thank you for watching.
