KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. This is KRAK 11 News at seven o'clock on a Wednesday morning in Wexler County.
This morning on KRAK 11: The World Desk brings you two hikers found after thirty-three years. Criminal Intent looks at what happened when the Pentagon opened its UFO files. Animals has a sea urchin. And A Quick Look At Sports covers surveillance cameras under attack.
The sea urchin is still number one.
Fifteen consecutive hours. We have the numbers.
Still ahead this morning: The World Desk begins with two people who went missing in 1992, and what a melting glacier just revealed.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We have a lot to get through this morning.
Five stories from three continents, and one of them involves a glacier.
Which you will place on the wrong continent.
We begin in the Swiss Alps, where officials say two Belgian hikers missing since nineteen ninety-two have been found after a glacier melted.
The bodies were discovered after the Trift Glacier receded. The two hikers disappeared thirty-three years ago during what was described at the time as a routine hiking expedition.
The Trift Glacier is in the Italian Alps, near the border.
The Bernese Alps. Switzerland.
Near the Italian border.
France and Liechtenstein.
I accept that.
Swiss authorities say the families have been notified and identification is complete. The glacier has lost more than sixty meters of ice in the last three decades.
Still in Europe. Reports out of the United Kingdom suggest the Duchess of Sussex may have been offered an acting role there. Sources close to the family have not denied it.
She was an actress before marrying into the royal family in twenty eighteen. She appeared in a legal drama for seven seasons.
And the family is back in the United Kingdom for the first time in several years, which means she can resume those duties.
The offer is for a film production. She stepped back from royal duties in twenty twenty.
Four years ago. Time goes fast.
It does.
The Met Office in London is now saying that the current El Niño event may be the strongest in living memory. That is an upgraded warning from earlier this week.
Scientists there are describing it as an unprecedented event. They are projecting it will push global temperatures higher in twenty twenty-seven and bring the United Kingdom a wetter, stormier autumn.
That is two years out from now.
It is. The climate models show the effects lasting well beyond the initial event. The Met Office says sea surface temperatures in the Pacific are already at record levels.
The Pacific is the largest ocean.
It is.
I know my oceans.
You do.
Coming up in a few minutes on KRAK 11 News, Criminal Intent. A case out of the county that has prosecutors looking at three different charges, and the timeline matters.
We will walk you through what happened and when.
Criminal Intent, still ahead.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning. This is the KRAK 11 Blotter.
We are doing four Florida Man Tributes this morning, which brings the station total to fifty-three in forty-two weeks.
That is more than one a week.
Florida is consistent.
Back in June of this year, a man lost control of his pickup truck on Interstate 75 in Hernando County. Florida Highway Patrol says he told troopers he saw the anti-Christ moments before the crash.
A medical helicopter landed at the scene to transport patients. Authorities say the driver then attempted to steal the helicopter while it was still on the ground.
Prosecutors allege he is charged with grand theft and criminal mischief.
Back in July of last year, someone in Florida spent more than a year and a half placing sharp objects under the tires of fire rescue vehicles. Deputies have dubbed him the Nail Bandit.
A suspect is facing criminal charges after authorities say he repeatedly damaged emergency vehicles responding to calls.
Back in April of this year, a three-person skydiving team was performing at Virginia Tech's spring football game. One parachutist was carrying the U.S. flag.
He crashed into the scoreboard.
The parachutist was treated at the scene and released. The scoreboard was not damaged.
And back in May of this year, the Pentagon released hundreds of documents and dozens of videos to a new public website dedicated to unidentified aerial phenomena. The site received three hundred and forty million hits in its first twelve hours.
The release includes Apollo 11 transcripts and reports of objects performing what the documents describe as impossible aerial maneuvers.
Three hundred and forty million hits.
People want answers, Deb.
Or they want to see what the government has been holding back for seventy years.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News - a video has been leading our animal countdown for fifteen consecutive hours. The sea urchin in question is doing something no one on this desk has seen before.
Animals is coming up.
ANIMALS
This is Animals.
The sea urchin is still at number one.
Sixteen hours now.
I have watched it three times.
The sea urchin video has gained three million three hundred fifty-four thousand new views in the last forty-two hours. Four million six hundred sixty-seven thousand total. Posted by Nick DiGiovanni on the nineteenth.
I understand the appeal.
At number two, coyotes and badgers hunting together. Two million eight hundred sixty-three thousand new views. YouTube has it at number one on their own trending chart. We have it at number two.
I have now watched that one ten times.
That is a lot of badger content.
They work as a team, Deb. The badger digs, the coyote runs. It is very efficient.
Number three, a baby deer trapped on a freezing pond. Two million seven hundred twenty-nine thousand new views. Fifteen million total. Posted thirteen days ago and still climbing.
That one gets me every time.
It does.
Coming up on KRAK 11 News this morning, a quick look at sports. The Cubs did something in the tenth inning last night, and we will tell you what it was.
That is next.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
Good morning.
Good morning. We have got results from across the majors, and Milwaukee is making it interesting in the Central.
The Yankees beat the Red Sox seven to four in Boston. Aaron Judge hit his thirty-eighth home run of the season in the fifth inning.
The Dodgers beat the Padres three to two in eleven innings. Mookie Betts drove in the winning run.
The Astros beat the Rangers nine to three. Houston scored six runs in the seventh inning.
The Twins beat the White Sox four to one. Minnesota's pitching held Chicago to three hits.
The Brewers beat the Cardinals six to two. Milwaukee has now won seven straight.
Seven straight is a real run.
It is a real run.
Coming up in the next KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour - we will tell you which police surveillance cameras are being vandalized in dozens of states, and why that is happening now.
That is KRAK 11 News. I am Deb Sarkissian.
I am Chip Marlowe. Good morning, Wexler County.
