KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. This is KRAK 11 News, the top of the hour. Five people are missing after a fire tore through an Alpine town in Switzerland overnight. Eight others injured, cause still under investigation.
Coming up this hour: Criminal Intent — a Florida man tried to livestream himself spending twenty-four hours inside a Walmart back in January. He made it to the dog bed section before the deputies found him.
That is our forty-eighth Florida Man Tribute in forty-two weeks. Also this hour: Animals, where the sea urchin video is still number one and has now led our countdown for fourteen consecutive hours.
You have watched it twice.
I have. And A Quick Look At Sports, where the Premier League has a new plan to end what they are calling corner chaos — holding, pushing, shoving, all of it became an epidemic last season.
Still ahead this morning — why investigators in Switzerland are calling the Alpine fire suspicious, and what they found in the building before it burned. That is next on KRAK 11 News.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. This is The World Desk.
The Prime Minister donated a book to the Downing Street library.
What kind of book?
A biography of himself.
We begin with housing data that suggests younger homebuyers may finally be catching a break after more than a decade of difficulty.
Millennials, now in their thirties and early forties, have been far less likely to own homes than their parents were at the same age. New data suggests that trend may be starting to reverse.
This is the generation that came of age during the housing crash.
Two thousand eight, yes. They faced higher prices, tighter credit, and student debt levels no previous generation dealt with. The data now shows modest improvement in ownership rates for people under forty.
Modest is the right word.
It is. But it is movement in the right direction after fifteen years of falling behind.
Switzerland. Five people are still missing after a fire in an Alpine town. Eight others were injured.
Search crews are working through the debris this morning. Local police say the cause is still under investigation.
Five people unaccounted for.
Yes. The injured were taken to hospitals in the region. No names have been released.
Britain's government borrowing figures came in higher than expected last month. Chancellor John Healey is preparing his first Budget.
July borrowing was higher than economists forecast. The Chancellor says the government remains committed to its fiscal rules, but the figures are complicating preparations for the autumn Budget.
Healey is the new Chancellor.
He is. This is his first Budget, and the borrowing numbers are not helping.

Reports out of the United Kingdom suggest the Duchess of Sussex may be considering a return to acting.
Sources close to the Duke and Duchess have not denied reports that Meghan has been offered a role in a UK-based production. No details have been confirmed.
She was on a legal drama before the marriage.
Suits. Seven seasons. This would be her first project since stepping back from royal duties.
Which were in London.
The royal duties were, yes. The production would be as well, if the reports are accurate.
Back to the Downing Street library. The Prime Minister donated a biography of himself.
The Downing Street library began in nineteen thirty-one. Seven of his ministers also contributed books. The Prime Minister's donation was a biography written about him.
I assume it was favorable.
The reporting does not say.
Coming up in a few minutes on KRAK 11 News, Criminal Intent.
A man in Florida broke into a car dealership and tried to leave in a luxury sedan. He made it as far as the service bay.
Criminal Intent. In a few minutes.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We begin this morning with a tribute to the Sunshine State, which has provided us with forty-nine Florida Man Tributes in forty-two weeks.
That is an average of more than one per week.
It is a remarkable consistency.
Back in January of this year, deputies in Central Florida responded to a call at a Walmart in Clermont after the store had closed for the night. A man was discovered in the dog bed section, broadcasting live on TikTok.
Deputies said he was attempting to stay inside the store for twenty-four hours as part of a challenge.
He was arrested on trespassing charges after approximately two hours.
Back in April of last year, deputies in Highlands County pursued a stolen vehicle for several miles. When the driver finally stopped, he approached the patrol car with an unusual gesture of goodwill.
Body camera footage shows the man offering the deputy a can of vodka spritzer through the window.
Prosecutors allege he had stolen a case of alcohol from a store before leading deputies on the chase.
Back in October of last year, a woman ran inside a Sunoco station in Brevard County to pay, leaving her car running outside. Security footage shows a man entering the vehicle and driving away.
Moments later, deputies said the same man returned the car to the gas station and fled on foot.
The woman's four-year-old child had been asleep in the back seat.
The suspect was arrested later that day.
And back in May of this year, a collision south of Vancouver left witnesses staring upward.
A motorcycle collided with a car at an intersection and became lodged in the traffic signal overhead.
Witnesses captured video of the bike dangling several feet above the intersection while emergency crews worked to bring it down.
The rider was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
I have been attempting to determine the physics involved.
And have you?
Not yet.
Coming up in just a few minutes on KRAK 11 News: the sea urchin video has now led the animal countdown for fourteen consecutive hours, and the view count has jumped again overnight. We will have the latest numbers.
That is ANIMALS, still ahead.
ANIMALS
Time now for the news that makes you glad you turned on the television.
The sea urchin is still on top.
Fifteen hours now. I have been tracking it since yesterday afternoon.
You have. The sea urchin video is still number one on the KRAK 11 animal countdown. Three million two hundred sixty-eight thousand new views in the last forty-one hours.
Four and a half million total. Posted by Nick DiGiovanni six days ago. YouTube has it at number thirteen on their trending chart.
At number two, a video filed under pets and animals with no animal name in the title. Just the word singing and a hashtag.
Three million views gained. Thirteen million total. Posted three weeks ago by a channel called Lumi.
At number three, up one spot since yesterday, coyotes and badgers hunting together. Two point eight million views gained.
YouTube has it at number one on their chart. Three point three million total views. I have now watched it nine times.
You were at eight yesterday.
They coordinate. The badger digs, the coyote runs down what comes out. It is a professional arrangement between two species and I find it very moving.
At number four, also up one spot, a baby deer trapped on a freezing pond. Two point seven million views gained, fifteen million total.
Posted last week. YouTube has it at number three.
And at number five, the bobcat that has been stopping cars. Fifteen consecutive days now at the same spot on our count.
One point four million views gained. Six and a half million total.
That is the animal countdown. Still ahead this morning, a quick look at sports. The Cubs broke a record that has stood since nineteen hundred and two.
We will be right back.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
I have been watching football all weekend.
Of course you have.
The Premier League has announced new enforcement on corner kicks after what they are calling an epidemic of holding, pushing and grappling last season. Referees will crack down on physical play in the box starting opening weekend.
They are calling it an epidemic.
Still ahead - the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour. We will have more from Wexler County and beyond.
That is sports. Thank you for watching KRAK 11 News.
