Good morning. It's one o'clock and this is KRAK 11 News. I'm Chip Marlowe.
I'm Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour: The World Desk, where Prince Harry's return to the UK raises a question his brother apparently has no interest in answering.
Criminal Intent brings our thirty-fifth Florida Man Tribute of the year—a roommate dispute that ended with a medieval weapon and no remorse whatsoever.
Animals has a sea urchin video that gained nearly three million views in a day and a half. We'll explain why people cannot stop watching it.
A Quick Look At Sports has a Michigan man who stopped for gas on the way home from vacation and left five hundred thousand dollars richer.
That's not sports.
It's the best story we have. Still ahead this morning on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk and a reconciliation that sources say is not coming.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. It is one in the morning here in Fairmont, and we have news from four continents this hour.
I have coffee.
You always have coffee.
We begin this morning with the latest from London, where palace sources say the rift between Prince Harry and his brother remains as deep as ever.
The Prince of Wales is reported to be in no mood to forgive or forget, despite recent speculation about reconciliation. Sources say the hurt he feels continues to linger.
Harry returned to England last week.
He did. And those close to both brothers say the visit did not improve matters. One source described the atmosphere as unchanged.
We have reported on Harry and Meghan's move to California and the difficulties that followed.
We have. The question this morning is whether time will change anything, and palace sources are not optimistic.
The West Bank. Israeli settlers have returned to the community of Kadim, two decades after it was evacuated during the withdrawal from Gaza.
Thirty families arrived this week, describing themselves as pioneers. The move follows a wave of nationalism driven by Israel's current government.
Kadim is in the northern territories.
It's in the northern West Bank, near Jenin. Palestinian residents in nearby communities say they are fearful. The change has been rapid and the security situation remains tense.
The area was evacuated in two thousand five.
It was. As part of Israel's withdrawal from Gaza and four settlements in the West Bank. This is the first time settlers have returned to Kadim since then.
Australia. British rapper Yung Filly will face a retrial on rape charges after a jury could not reach a verdict on three counts.
The YouTuber was cleared of several sexual assault offenses last month, but the jury deadlocked on the remaining charges.
Prosecutors in Perth confirmed they will proceed with a second trial. No date has been set.
And Indonesia. The Swiss tourist we reported on earlier this week has completed his sentence and is being deported.
He was jailed for insulting Nyepi.
The Day of Silence. He posted expletives online about the sacred holiday and was sentenced to a year in prison. That sentence was reduced for time served and good behavior.
What is the Day of Silence?
It's Nyepi, the Balinese New Year. The entire island observes silence, fasting and meditation for twenty-four hours. No work, no travel, no lights. It is deeply sacred.
He violated that.
He did. Publicly and profanely. The court took it seriously and so did the community. He has now been deported and is barred from returning.
That is the news from overseas this morning.
If you're watching online, subscribing costs you nothing and it helps a station like ours a great deal.
We mean that.
Still ahead this morning on KRAK Eleven News—
Criminal Intent. A case out of Wexler County that has taken an unexpected turn, and the sheriff's office is asking the public for help.
We'll have that in just a few minutes.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning. This is Criminal Intent.
We have the thirty-eighth entry in the KRAK 11 Florida Man Tribute this morning.
Thirty-eight weeks. You never miss one.
It is a public service, Deb.
Back in June of last year, a convicted fraudster posed as a flight attendant and scored thirty-four free flights across multiple airlines before officials caught up with him.
Thirty-four flights. Officials say he wore an airline uniform, carried a lanyard, and walked straight onto the plane every single time.
The suspect is now facing federal charges.
Back in December of last year, a naked Florida man accused of robbing a meat market left behind a trail of clothing leading directly to his location. Investigators say he wore only a mask.
Deputies followed the clothing from the scene to a nearby residence where they located the suspect.
The suspect is charged with robbery.
Back in September of last year, a Florida man told investigators that he has no remorse over trying to shoot his roommate with an arrow after the pair got into an argument over a vodka bottle that was in the trash.
Police say the suspect called his roommate a parasite. The roommate was not injured. The suspect is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Back in January of this year, Polk County deputies say a Florida man had a gun hidden under prosthetic silicone breasts while he was trespassing at a construction site.
Deputies say he was also wearing a red lace bra. The suspect is charged with trespassing and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
That is thirty-eight Florida Man Tributes in thirty-eight weeks.
And you remember every single one.
I keep a list.
Of course you do.
Still ahead this morning — the sea urchin video has been leading the animal countdown for nine hours straight. We will tell you just how many new views it gained in a few minutes.
Animals is next.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The good news desk.
I have been watching the coyote and badger video.
Again.
That is five times now. It is remarkably effective cooperation between species.
The sea urchin video is still at number one on the KRAK 11 animal countdown. That is now nine hours at the top of our chart.
Two million nine hundred eighty-four thousand new views in the last thirty-six hours. Four million two hundred ninety-seven thousand total.
And that coyote and badger video is at number two. Two million six hundred twenty thousand new views. Posted by Zack D. Films on the nineteenth.
You are going to watch it a sixth time.
I might.
Number three is the baby deer trapped on the freezing pond. Two million five hundred eighty thousand new views. Fifteen million total.
That one is heartbreaking and then it is not.
It is very good.
And the bobcat is still at number five. One million two hundred seventy thousand new views in the last thirty-six hours. That has been at number five for thirteen consecutive days.
The one where it was stopping every car on the road.
Just walking right up to people.
A Quick Look at Sports is coming up in just a few minutes. We have an update on the Premier League opener, and Chip has four alarms set for this morning.
The news does not sleep, Deb.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
You set four alarms.
And I needed every one of them.
The Premier League season kicked off this morning. Arsenal opened with a win at the Emirates, beating West Ham two to nil. Bukayo Saka scored in the eighty-third minute.
Chelsea drew one-all at Stamford Bridge against Crystal Palace. Liverpool beat Ipswich at Portman Road, two to nothing.
In chess, Magnus Carlsen defended his world title at the Esports World Cup, sweeping his opponent four games to zero.
And a Michigan man stopped for gas on the way home from vacation and won five hundred thousand dollars on a lottery scratch ticket.
That is one expensive tank of gas.
Coming up at the top of the hour, the latest from Wexler County. We will see you in a few minutes.
