KRAK 11 NEWS
Good morning. This is KRAK 11 News, Wexler County. I am Chip Marlowe.
And I am Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk, Criminal Intent, Animals, and A Quick Look at Sports.
The World Desk starts us off with a Swiss tourist jailed in Bali for insulting a sacred holiday. Three months behind bars for a social media post.
Criminal Intent brings you our thirty-sixth Florida Man Tribute — this one from the Panhandle, back in July of last year. A man facing charges after deputies found a dead cat in a trash can.
Animals has the sea urchin video, which has gained nearly three million new views in the last thirty-five hours and has led our countdown for eight hours straight.
It is a very good sea urchin.
And A Quick Look at Sports has five talking points as the Premier League returns this morning. The World Desk is coming up next.
THE WORLD DESK
Good morning. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. You are watching KRAK 11 News, Wexler County.
Gordo, are we set?
All set, Chip.
We begin this morning with a developing weather story. The Met Office in London has issued what it is calling the strongest El Niño warning in institutional memory.
Scientists there say the weather pattern now forming across the equatorial Pacific is stronger than any event in living memory, and that twenty twenty-seven is very likely to break the global temperature record.
That is the system that warms the currents near Peru.
The system runs from the coast of South America out across the central Pacific. It affects weather patterns on six continents.
Six.
The Met Office says atmospheric conditions this year show no precedent in their data. They expect significant disruption to rainfall, agriculture, and seasonal temperatures worldwide.
We are staying on this one.
The Middle East. Five nations have condemned Israel's plan to expand settlements in a strategically important section of the occupied West Bank.
The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Canada issued a joint statement calling the expansion a violation of international law.
That is the area between the Dead Sea and Jordan.
The statement names the E1 corridor specifically, which connects occupied East Jerusalem to the settlement of Maale Adumim.
A strategic position.
The five nations say development there would sever the West Bank territorially and make a contiguous Palestinian state impossible.
Pakistan. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been returned to Adiala jail following a court-ordered medical examination.
He was transported under heavy security to Shifa International Hospital earlier this week for tests, and was brought back to detention late Thursday.
He has been in custody since last spring.
He has. Pakistani authorities have not disclosed the reason for the medical visit or the results of any examination.
Nigeria. The death toll from a boat capsizing in Sokoto state has now risen past sixty. Most of the victims are believed to be children.
Sokoto state officials say rescue operations are continuing on the river, but conditions have made recovery difficult.
Sokoto is in the northwest part of the country.
It is. Near the border with Niger. The boat was carrying passengers across one of the tributaries that feed the Sokoto River basin.
Investigators have not yet determined what caused the boat to capsize.
Terrible.
And Bali. The Swiss tourist we reported on earlier has completed his sentence and been deported. He was jailed for three months after posting expletives about Nyepi, the Day of Silence.
That is one of their most sacred holidays.
It is. The entire island observes complete silence for twenty-four hours. No lights, no noise, no travel. He called it ridiculous on social media.
Not his best decision.
If you are watching us on YouTube, subscribe if you would. It helps us keep the lights on here at KRAK 11.
Coming up in just a few minutes on CRIMINAL INTENT, a story out of Manchester that has law enforcement asking the public for help.
A man has been charged, but investigators say there may be additional information that has not yet come forward.
That is ahead on KRAK 11 News.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good morning. Time for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
Week thirty-seven of the Florida Man Tribute.
We have four tonight. And the first one involves a Tesla, a restaurant, and a man who badly misunderstood how charging stations work.
Back in June of last year, a Florida man drove his electric vehicle through the front doors of a Palm Beach County restaurant.
Martin County Sheriff's Office reports the suspect drove a Tesla Model Three approximately forty feet into the dining area, struck the bar, and attempted to plug the vehicle into an outlet behind it.
He told deputies he needed to charge his car at the bar.
The restaurant was closed at the time. No injuries reported. Damage to the establishment estimated at sixty-seven thousand dollars. He has been charged with criminal mischief and reckless driving.
Our second tribute takes us to Fort Myers Beach, back in August of last year. A mobile marijuana van was burglarized while parked overnight.
The van operated under the name Queen of Weed. Surveillance footage shows a man breaking into the vehicle and removing more than seven thousand dollars worth of edibles, mushrooms, and vaping products.
Deputies arrested Zachary Jolly the following morning.
The suspect's last name is Jolly.
That is his actual last name. Mister Jolly has been charged with burglary and grand theft.
Our third tribute is from Washington County, back in July of last year. Deputies responding to a complaint discovered multiple animal traps set on private property.
They also found a dead cat in a trash can on the property. The homeowner told investigators he was trapping and killing cats to keep them off his land.
He has been charged with animal cruelty.
We have one more tribute for you. Back in January of this year, a home in Pinellas Park became available for sale. Not just any home.
The official residence of Florida Man.
The property was featured in a viral documentary series about Florida Man and became a tourist attraction. The new owners are considering turning it into an Airbnb.
That brings our Florida Man Tribute count to thirty-seven tributes in thirty-seven weeks.
Coming up this morning — a sea urchin video that is closing in on four and a half million views. The countdown is next.
Animals is next.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The sea urchin is still holding on.
Eight hours now.
That is staying power.
The sea urchin video has now led the KRAK 11 animal countdown for eight consecutive hours. Nearly three million new views in the last thirty-five hours.
Four point two million total. Posted by Nick DiGiovanni six days ago and it has not stopped climbing.
Number two on our countdown is the coyote and badger video. Two and a half million new views, up one spot since yesterday.
I have watched that one five times now.
It is remarkable footage.
Number three is the baby deer trapped on a freezing pond. Down one spot but still over fifteen million total views.
And at number five, the bobcat that was stopping every car. Still at five. Thirteen consecutive days now.
That is a determined bobcat.
It is. And people keep watching.
That deer.
Anyway.
A Quick Look at Sports is coming up, and we will tell you which Major League team just broke a sixty-two-year record that nobody thought would fall this season.
Stay with us.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
I have set four alarms this morning.
The Premier League returns.
The Premier League season kicks off this morning after the summer break. Manchester United host Fulham, Arsenal travel to Wolves, and Liverpool open at Anfield against Nottingham Forest.
First whistle is at two o'clock eastern.
Nine months of football, and I regret nothing.
Still ahead this morning — the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour. We will see you then.
