KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening, Wexler County. This is KRAK 11 News at six o'clock. I am Chip Marlowe.
And I am Deb Sarkissian. Tonight on KRAK 11: The World Desk. Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been taken from jail to hospital under heavy security.
Criminal Intent. Back in November of last year, counterfeit movie money started turning up in real transactions across Florida. Marion County issued warnings.
That sentence makes it sound dignified.
Animals. A sea urchin video has taken the top spot on the KRAK 11 animal countdown with two and a half million new views in twenty-nine hours.
And A Quick Look At Sports, where a record outbreak of cyclosporiasis is testing a health system already weakened by federal cuts.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk, where we will have the latest on Imran Khan's condition and when he is expected to return to Adiala jail. That is next.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening, Wexler County. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Chip, you were looking at a map earlier.
I was familiarizing myself with the Scottish highlands. Beautiful region.
You had the map upside down.
It works either way.
We begin tonight with sports news from Scotland, where Rangers advanced in the Conference League play-off with a win over Jablonec.
That is near Edinburgh, which is in the highlands.
The match was in Glasgow, which is on the west coast. Edinburgh is on the east coast. The highlands are further north.
Same island.
Rangers won the first leg but the performance was described as stodgy by BBC Sport's Tom English. He called it a twelve-course banquet of huff and puff.
A win is a win.
It is. The second leg is next week.
Also in sports, Rory McIlroy took the clubhouse lead in the first round of the BMW Championship after what he called good work with his team.
McIlroy credited recent practice sessions for helping him rediscover his form after a difficult summer on the tour.
That is in Munich, I believe.
The tournament is in Colorado. Outside Denver.
BMW is German.
That is true.
In the United Kingdom, the Home Office says French authorities have become significantly more effective at stopping small boat crossings in the English Channel.
That is the body of water between England and Portugal.
Between England and France, Chip. The Home Office credits French authorities with intercepting hundreds of potential crossings this summer using new tactics.
France is right across the water.
It is. The narrowest point is twenty-one miles.
You can swim that.
People have. Not many.
If you are watching us on YouTube tonight, we would be grateful if you subscribed. It makes a real difference to a newsroom this size.
It costs you nothing and it helps us keep going.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News, Criminal Intent has a story from Wexler County about a theft we have been following for three days.
The suspect tried to return what he took and the store would not accept it.
We will have the details in a few minutes.
That is worth staying for.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening, I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. This is the KRAK 11 Blotter.
We have four Florida Man Tributes for you tonight. All of them from the archives. All of them remarkable.
You've been going through the files again.
We begin with Marion County, back in November of last year, when sheriff's deputies began noticing something unusual about cash circulating in the area.
The bills were fake. But they weren't even good fakes.
They were prop money. The kind used in movies. Printed with the words 'for motion picture use only' right on the bill, and people were spending them anyway.
And people were accepting them.
The sheriff's office issued a warning asking residents to check their cash carefully before completing a transaction.
Lake County, back in July of last year. A man took a different approach to closing time at a local gym.
Deputies say the suspect removed all his clothing, attempted to set fire to the building, then tried to hide in a tanning bed.
Law enforcement located him without difficulty.
Jacksonville, back in June of last year. A narcotics investigation led authorities to a residence on the northwest side where they discovered evidence of dog-fighting, animal neglect, and a nine-foot alligator being kept in what officials described as inhumane conditions.
The suspect was arrested and charged with multiple felonies including animal cruelty and operating a dog-fighting ring.
And Marion County again, back in May of this year. Severe thunderstorms moved through the area and a lightning strike killed four cows and a calf on a local farm.
The National Weather Service in Jacksonville confirmed the strike. The farm owner said the animals were found together in the pasture.
Thirty-one Florida Man Tributes in thirty-one weeks.
You keep count.
Someone has to.
Still ahead tonight: a sea urchin update. The video is still number one on the KRAK 11 animal countdown, and the numbers are remarkable.
Animals, coming up next on KRAK 11 News.
ANIMALS
This is the Good News Desk.
We have a new leader on the animal countdown.
After two hours at the top, the sea urchin is still there.
And the bobcat has now been at number five for thirteen straight days.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown has a new leader. A sea urchin video posted by Nick DiGiovanni has gained two and a half million views in the last twenty-nine hours.
That gives it three point eight million total views and puts it at number fourteen on YouTube's own trending chart.
It has led our count for two hours. The baby deer trapped on a freezing pond is at number two with two point four million new views.
That video was posted by Sassy on August thirteenth and now has fifteen million total views.
Number three is a video explaining why coyotes and badgers hunt together. That one is from Zack D. Films and gained two point one million views in the last day.
And the bobcat is still at number five.
Thirteen consecutive days.
One million seventy thousand new views in the last twenty-nine hours. Six point two million total. It is the most stable thing on the internet.
That bobcat is stopping every car on that road and I respect the consistency.
How many times have you watched it now?
Thirteen.
Coming up in A Quick Look At Sports, the Yankees take on the Red Sox and Aaron Judge is having a night. We'll have the score when KRAK 11 News continues.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
Walk-offs, chess championships, and one very late admission from a Formula One team.
That last one is remarkable.
The Cubs beat the White Sox three to two in walk-off fashion at Wrigley Field. Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a single in the bottom of the ninth to bring home the winning run.
Magnus Carlsen defended his chess title at the twenty twenty-six Esports World Cup in Riyadh. He beat his opponent in four games without a loss.
And Honda has admitted it only realized the full scale of its Formula One engine problems this past January, seven months into development.
Seven months is a long time not to notice.
Coming up at the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News - breaking developments out of the county health office, and the story behind a foodborne illness outbreak that is testing a system already stretched thin. That is next.
We will see you then.
