KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening, Wexler County. It is the top of the hour and this is KRAK 11 News. I am Chip Marlowe.
And I am Deb Sarkissian. This hour on KRAK 11: The World Desk begins with police in London appealing for witnesses after a man was found shot dead in his car overnight.
Criminal Intent with our twenty-ninth Florida Man Tribute of the year — back in July a DoorDash driver in Houston got hit by a suspect fleeing police, and she finished the delivery anyway.
Animals brings you the bobcat that has been stopping traffic on a California highway — still number five on the countdown for the twelfth straight day.
And A Quick Look At Sports, where we examine how a record outbreak of cyclosporiasis is testing a health system already weakened by last year's federal cuts.
That is not sports.
It is not. But it is the story we are leading with in that segment, and it is important. The World Desk is up first — stay with us.
THE WORLD DESK
The World Desk.
Good evening.
We have four items tonight. Three of them are hard.
The fourth one is about electric bicycles and a mayor who has opinions.
We begin in east London, where police are appealing for information after a man was found shot dead in a car overnight. Investigators have not released the victim's identity and no arrests have been made.
Metropolitan Police say the shooting happened in the early hours and they are treating it as murder. They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
In north-western Nigeria, the death toll from yesterday's boat capsizing has now risen to forty-eight. Sokoto state officials say rescue efforts continue on the river.
That is up from forty-three confirmed yesterday. Many of the victims are children. The boat was crossing a river in Sokoto state when it overturned.
Local authorities say the boat may have been overloaded. The investigation is continuing.
In Pakistan, former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been released from hospital and returned to Adiala jail following treatment. He was taken to Shifa International Hospital under heavy security earlier this week.
Khan has been in custody since August of twenty twenty-three. The nature of his medical treatment has not been disclosed.
That is near Islamabad.
Adiala jail is in Rawalpindi, which is about nine miles from Islamabad.
Which is the capital.
Islamabad is the capital, yes.
So they are very close together.
They are.
And in northern Italy, Mayor Alessandro Rapinese says the electric bicycle ban is already being enforced and the city has issued its first round of citations. Fines start at twenty-five euros.
The mayor announced the ban after he was struck by an electric bike in the historic centre. He called them dangerous and said the prohibition was necessary for public safety.
He said, and I am quoting here, 'I know what it is like to be hit by one of these beasts.'
He did say that.
I respect a mayor who makes policy based on personal experience.
The ban applies to the entire historic city centre and includes rentals. Traditional bicycles are still permitted.
That is on Lake Como.
It is. The third largest lake in Italy.
George Clooney has a house there.
He does.
I wonder if he rides an electric bike.
I would assume he has been informed of the new policy.
If you are just finding us on YouTube, we are glad you are here. Subscribing costs you nothing and it helps a small station like ours quite a bit.
We really do appreciate it.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News, we have an update on an arrest in the Willow Creek case. Detectives say new evidence led them to a second suspect, and we will have the details from the sheriff's office in just a few minutes.
Criminal Intent is next.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
We begin tonight with our thirtieth consecutive weekly tribute to the great state of Florida, which continues to provide this segment with more material than any courthouse in America.
Thirty weeks without interruption.
The runner remains undefeated.
Back in July of this year, a DoorDash driver in Houston was struck by a vehicle fleeing from police during an active pursuit. She got out of her car, collected the order from her back seat, and completed the delivery on foot.
The suspect was later apprehended by Houston police.
The driver told reporters the customer had already tipped, and she saw no reason not to finish the job.
Back in August of last year, deputies in the Florida Panhandle responded to a residential disturbance call. A woman reported waking to find a man she did not know standing next to her bed, mumbling.
Deputies arrived and located the suspect asleep in the woman's vehicle, which was parked in her driveway.
He was charged with burglary and trespassing. The mumbling was not explained.
Back in October of last year, Lake Wales police arrested a Tampa man in connection with a double homicide and arson that occurred in nineteen eighty-one. He is sixty-five years old.
Detectives said he had been living what they described as a seemingly normal life in Tampa for more than four decades.
He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
Back in November of last year, a memorial service in central Florida for a homicide victim was interrupted when a gunman opened fire on the mourners. One person was killed. Multiple others were injured.
The suspect was apprehended by authorities and charged with murder and multiple counts of attempted murder.
He remains in custody pending trial.
That is thirty Florida Man Tributes in thirty weeks.
The numbers speak for themselves.
Still ahead tonight on KRAK 11 News: the bobcat video is still at number five on our animal countdown, and we have the latest numbers.
Twelve consecutive days and counting.
Animals, in a few minutes.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
Deb, I have watched the bobcat video twelve times now.
Once for every day it has been at number five.
That was not intentional.
The bobcat video is still holding at number five on the KRAK 11 animal countdown, which ranks videos by how many new views they have gained in the last day, not the total.
One million seventy thousand new views in the last twenty-nine hours. Six million two hundred twenty-two thousand total.
That is twelve consecutive days at number five.
Twelve days.
It has not moved.
People like the bobcat.
I understand why.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, A Quick Look at Sports. The Yankees and the Red Sox, Aaron Judge doing what Aaron Judge does, and the college football season is two weeks away.
We will be right back.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
We have a very good scoreboard tonight.
You say that every night.
Manchester United opens their Premier League season this weekend, and the BBC says the first ten days could tell us everything we need to know about what kind of year they are going to have.
Three matches in ten days.
Right out of the gate. That is how you find out if a team is ready.
That is sports at this hour. Still ahead, the next KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour.
We will see you then.
