And in Sports, a breakthrough in skin cancer treatment that stopped the disease from coming back. Still ahead this hour on KRAK 11 News, the World Desk. That Como mayor did not just ban bikes. He called them beasts. We will tell you why in just a moment.
THE WORLD DESK
The World Desk.
Good evening. We have updates from Italy, Colombia, and English football is spending money again.
Arsenal wants a seventh defender.
They have already spent more than a hundred million pounds this summer.
We will get to that. Let's begin with an update from Como.
The mayor of Como has now formally issued the prohibition on bicycles in the historic city centre after being struck by a cyclist last month.
Mayor Alessandro Rapinese making it official. Como sits right there on the Adriatic, so it's a popular destination for tourists.
Lake Como is in the Alps, near Switzerland.
The point is, tourists love it, and now they are walking.
The mayor called bicycles 'beasts' in his announcement. The prohibition is in force as of this week.
From Italy to Colombia, where the death toll from that unlicensed gold mine landslide now stands at thirteen.
Four members of an indigenous family are among the dead. Witnesses say the mine was operating without a license and safety protocols were not in place.
Colombian authorities are investigating the site. No word yet on whether charges will be filed against the operators.
In English football, Arsenal are pursuing Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa despite already having six defenders on the books.
Seven defenders. That is more than most teams start with.
They have already spent more than a hundred million pounds this summer as they look to defend their Premier League title. Manager Mikel Arteta says he wants depth across the back line going into a congested fixture schedule.
Konsa is twenty-six, plays for England, and Villa do not want to sell.
Arsenal have not made a formal bid yet, but Villa are bracing for one.
So they are buying insurance in bulk.
They are.
Also in England, Liverpool still trying to get that deal done for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh.
Brighton rejected a fifty million pound bid earlier this week. Liverpool are expected to come back with a revised offer, but Brighton are holding firm on their valuation.
Minteh is twenty years old, just finished a loan spell at Feyenoord, and Liverpool want him before the transfer window closes.
Brighton signed him last summer and have not played him yet. They rate him highly and are in no hurry to sell.
And in cricket, day two highlights from the Test match between England and Pakistan are on BBC Two right now if you want to flip over.
Play at Headingley. We are not carrying it, but if you have access to BBC Two, that is where it is.
Before we go to the break, if you are watching this on YouTube, subscribing genuinely makes a difference for a station this size.
It costs you nothing and it helps us keep going.
Still ahead tonight, a case that has Wexler County talking. We will tell you what happened, who is charged, and what comes next.
Criminal Intent is up next on KRAK 11 News.
Stay with us.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
We have four stories from the Florida Man archives tonight. They are all from last year, and every single one of them is remarkable.
You made a list.
I did make a list.
We begin in Brevard County, back in October of last year. A man allegedly stole a car from a Sunoco gas station and made it approximately one block before he had to turn around.
There was a child in the back seat.
Deputies say he realized this after he drove away, returned to the gas station, pulled over, got out, and left the car running with the child still inside.
The child was unharmed. The suspect was later apprehended and charged with grand theft auto.
Also from January of this year. A former Bartow police officer has been charged with poisoning his girlfriend's Maltese poodle because, prosecutors allege, he did not like the dog.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says the animal died after ingesting poison. The former officer is charged with animal cruelty.
And from the archives, October of last year. A golf course in Pasco County reported one hundred thousand dollars in damages after someone took a golf cart on what police described as a donut joyride across multiple greens.
The cart tore up fairways, damaged irrigation systems, and left tire marks across at least four putting greens.
Police say they identified a suspect through surveillance footage. No arrest has been announced.
The course was closed for repairs for three days.
And one more from June of last year. A Deltona man was caught prowling a neighborhood overnight and later admitted to deputies that he had been watching his ex-girlfriend sleep for months.
He is facing multiple charges including aggravated stalking, according to authorities.
That is twenty-three Florida Man Tributes in twenty-three weeks.
You keep count.
In a spreadsheet.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, the bobcat video has now been at number five on our animal countdown for seven consecutive days. And the numbers tonight are remarkable.
Over six million views.
Animals, in a moment.
ANIMALS
This is the good news desk.
Seven days.
The bobcat is still at number five.
The bobcat video holds at number five on the KRAK 11 animal countdown for the seventh consecutive day. It gained nine hundred twenty thousand new views in the last twenty-five hours.
That brings it to six million seventy-two thousand three hundred thirty-three total views. Posted by GL Al Amin back on August eleventh.
YouTube's own trending chart has it at number fifteen. We rank by new views, they rank by total.
Either way, that is a very popular bobcat.
I have watched it nine times.
You have.
The part where he sits down in the middle of the road.
I know the part.
He just sits.
He does.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News - a quick look at sports, and I have something to say about the Detroit Tigers that I did not expect to be saying in mid-September.
You did not.
That is next.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
We have got results from the weekend, a birthday winner, and a debt number that is hard to say out loud.
Let us start with the good news.
An Ohio man stopped at a gas station just after midnight on his eighteenth birthday and won ten thousand dollars on a lottery ticket. First purchase as a legal adult.
That is quite a way to start adulthood.
The federal debt hit forty trillion dollars this week. That number has doubled since twenty seventeen, and interest payments on the debt now cost the government more than one trillion dollars a year.
Just the interest alone now costs more than a trillion.
Coming up at the top of the hour: what that forty trillion dollar figure actually means for federal spending, and where the money goes. That is next on KRAK 11 News.
