KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening. I am Chip Marlowe. This is KRAK 11 News, top of the hour, and we have got a full lineup for you tonight.
We begin at the World Desk, where the mayor of Como, Italy has issued a ban on bicycles in the historic city centre after a personal encounter with a cyclist last month.
Then Criminal Intent. Deputies in Alabama were forced into rodeo duty on Friday when a fifteen-hundred-pound bull led them on a foot pursuit along Highway Seventeen.
A foot pursuit.
That is what the report says. Animals at twenty past the hour, where that bobcat has been at number five for six straight days and picked up another eight hundred and fifty-two thousand views overnight.
And we close with Sports, where a vaccine trial by Moderna and Merck has shown promising results in stopping skin cancer from returning. Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, the World Desk.
Stay with us.
THE WORLD DESK
The World Desk.
Good evening.
We are covering four continents tonight.
We are covering three.
We begin in northern Italy, where the mayor of Como has banned bicycles from the historic city centre after being struck by a cyclist last month.
Como. That's the one on the Adriatic.
Lake Como. It's in the Alps, near Switzerland. Mayor Alessandro Rapinese is calling the ban a prohibition on what he calls beasts in the city centre.
He's calling bicycles beasts?
He is. The ban takes effect immediately and applies to the entire historic district.
I have been hit by a bike. I did not ban them.
You were not the mayor.
That is true.
In Manchester, police have charged a man in connection with an attack on a synagogue. The charge is failing to disclose information regarding terrorist activity.
Manchester. South of Dover.
Northwest. Police have not released the man's name. The synagogue attack occurred last month and drew widespread condemnation.
We are following that.
A university in the United Kingdom has suspended an academic who publicly accused a Cambridge professor of plagiarism. Nathan Cofnas says he is now being investigated for discrimination.
The person he accused or the person who got accused?
The person who made the accusation. Cofnas accused Jason Arday of plagiarism. Arday has since died. Cofnas is now suspended and facing an investigation.
That is complicated.
It is. The university says the investigation is ongoing. No timeline has been given.
The royal family. We have an update.
Prince Harry has returned to the United Kingdom for a brief visit. Observers are asking what the visit means for his relationship with his brother Prince William.
They have had a fractured relationship for a number of years.
They have. There has been no public confirmation of a meeting between the two brothers during this visit. The palace has not commented.
You brought soup to the studio once.
I did. You had the flu and you did the whole hour anyway.
It was very good soup.
It was fine soup. You were brave.
If you are watching this on YouTube, we would be grateful if you subscribed. It costs you nothing and it makes a real difference to a station this size.
We are glad you are here.
Still ahead tonight, Criminal Intent. A crime that began with a phone call and ended with an arrest nine years later.
Nine years. We have the details.
That is next.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. This is the KRAK 11 Blotter.
We have two stories tonight that involve very unusual placement of large objects.
One on a highway. One on a traffic light.
We begin tonight in Pickens County, Alabama, where deputies and police officers engaged in a foot pursuit along Highway 17 on Friday afternoon.
The suspect weighed fifteen hundred pounds and has four hooves.
It was a bull. The bull got loose near Pickens Academy and deputies had to wrangle it back into custody.
Helicopter footage would show multiple units converging on the animal, which was eventually secured without injury to deputies or to the bull.
We do not have helicopter footage.
But if we did, that is what it would show.
No charges were filed.
And now the twenty-second Florida Man Tribute in twenty-two weeks. Back in May of this year, a motorcyclist collided with a car south of Vancouver.
The motorcycle was launched into the air and landed on top of a traffic signal, where it remained suspended approximately twenty feet above the intersection.
Witnesses captured video of the aftermath. The bike was hanging from the light by its front wheel.
The rider sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews closed the intersection and brought in a crane to remove the motorcycle from the signal.
Police said the collision is under investigation.
That is the only documented case we are aware of in which a motorcycle has been suspended from municipal infrastructure following a traffic incident.
It is remarkable footage.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, the bobcat video is still at number five. We will tell you why.
Animals is next.
ANIMALS
This is Animals.
The good news desk.
Seven days.
Seven days at number five.
Number five on the KRAK 11 animal countdown, which ranks by how many views a video has gained in the last day, not its total.
This Bobcat Was Stopping Every Car. Posted by GL Al Amin on August eleventh. Eight hundred eighty-one thousand new views in the last twenty-four hours.
That brings the total to just over six million. YouTube's own trending chart has it at number fifteen.
It has been at number five on our countdown for seven consecutive days.
That is a very patient bobcat.
It is a very good video.
I have watched it eight times.
That bobcat just sits there in the middle of the road and waits for someone to figure out what it wants.
It does not move.
Not once.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, a quick look at sports. The Cubs walked it off in extra innings and Chip has watched that one five times.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
We have got results from the Premier League, the Esports World Cup, and a very lucky eighteen-year-old.
Liverpool made their move.
Liverpool had a fifty million pound bid rejected by Brighton for winger Yankuba Minteh. Brighton holding firm on their valuation and Liverpool still looking.
Chess at the Esports World Cup - Magnus Carlsen defended his title, beating Hikaru Nakamura three and a half to two and a half. Second time this year we have covered that championship.
And you have taught me nothing about how chess works.
You know Magnus Carlsen is good at it.
I know that he keeps winning.
Coming up at the top of the hour - the next KRAK 11 News. We will have more on that helicopter crash in Kenya that killed seven people, including five Americans. The state department has confirmed the details.
That is the news. We are glad you are here.
