KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening, Wexler County. This is KRAK 11 News. Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour on KRAK 11 News: The World Desk - thirteen people are dead after a landslide at an unlicensed gold mine in Colombia.
Criminal Intent - our twentieth Florida Man Tribute in twenty weeks, and this one involves a police chase, several bottles of stolen alcohol, and an offer made to the arresting deputy.
Animals - the bobcat video is still at number five on the KRAK 11 animal countdown after six consecutive days, and the view count is climbing.
And A Quick Look at Sports - IndyCar comes to Washington this Sunday, and the route takes drivers past the National Gallery and three Smithsonian museums at high speed. Some art experts are concerned.
They put the cars next to the art.
They did. All that still ahead on KRAK 11 News. The World Desk is next.
THE WORLD DESK
Welcome back to KRAK 11 News. This is The World Desk.
You have been studying the globe again.
I have a very good understanding of world geography.
You said Dover and Cardiff were near each other.
They are both coastal.
Let's begin in Colombia, where thirteen people have been killed in a landslide at an unlicensed gold mine. Four members of an indigenous family are among the dead.
Witnesses say the mine was operating without a license. We do not yet have confirmation of how many people were working underground when the collapse occurred.
Rescue crews are still on site. We will update you as more information becomes available.
In the United Kingdom, a man has been charged in connection with the terror attack at the Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester last year.
Greater Manchester Police have not released the suspect's name. The attack took place at the synagogue in February of last year, and investigators have been working the case for more than a year.
The suspect is expected to appear in court later this week. That is in Manchester, which is northwest of Dover.
Manchester is northwest of London. Dover is southeast of London.
So they are on opposite sides.
Of the country, yes.
BBC Radio One DJ Trevor Nelson says his brain tumour surgery went well. The sixty-two-year-old posted on social media that his world was turned upside down when doctors discovered the tumour.
Nelson has been with the BBC for more than thirty years. He thanked the medical staff and said he is resting at home now.
He did not specify what kind of tumour it was or when he expects to return to work, but he said the procedure was successful and he is grateful.
And at the Tour of Britain Women, Australian rider Maeve Plouffe says she narrowly avoided being hit by a car during the first stage. She posted about the incident on social media.
The car crossed into the course while riders were moving through a village at speed. Plouffe said she had to swerve hard to avoid it and called for better course security.
Race organizers say they are reviewing what happened and working with local authorities. That is Belgium, correct?
Britain.
The Tour of Britain.
Yes.
So not Flanders.
Not Flanders.
Stage two begins tomorrow.

Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, Criminal Intent. A compound bow, a vodka bottle, and a Florida man who told police he had no remorse.
That is in a few minutes. We will be right back.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
And we begin tonight with our twenty-first consecutive Florida Man Tribute.
Twenty-one weeks in a row.
The state continues to deliver. This one from back in April of last year.
A suspect led Highlands County deputies on a miles-long chase, and when officers finally approached the vehicle, the driver had a proposition.
He offered the deputy a can of vodka spritzer. Through the window. Bodycam captured the entire exchange.
Authorities allege the suspect had just stolen the alcohol from a nearby store before leading them on the pursuit.
So he was offering stolen property as a peace offering.
Police said that, yes.
Also back in April of last year, a Florida man was arrested in Alabama in connection with cocaine trafficking. Deputies seized two kilos.
Back in July of last year, a Florida man is accused of attempting to steal fifteen hundred dollars worth of merchandise from a Lowe's Home Improvement store.
When deputies arrived, prosecutors allege he fled the scene by clinging to the back of a moving UPS truck.
The back of a UPS truck.
Like a stunt performer.
Deputies tracked him down with help from a citizen who saw the whole thing.
And finally tonight from Florida, back in May of last year: a man was arrested for allegedly shooting his neighbor's pregnant cow several times after it wandered onto his property.
Deputies said he had previously threatened to shoot any animals that entered his land.
The cow survived. The suspect did not make good on the escape.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News: we have video of a bobcat that has now spent six straight days at number five on our animal countdown.
The bobcat video gained eight hundred nineteen thousand new views in the last twenty-two hours.
Animals. In a few minutes.
ANIMALS
Time now for the good news desk.
We are going to talk about the bobcat again.
I thought we might.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown tracks how many views a video has gained in the last day, not its total. And at number five for the sixth consecutive day, a bobcat video that is not moving.
How many new views?
Eight hundred and fifty-two thousand, three hundred and ninety-seven in the last twenty-three hours. Six million total. YouTube's own trending chart has it at number fifteen.
Six consecutive days at number five.
Six consecutive days. It is not accelerating, it is not dropping, it is just holding there. That bobcat stood in the road and asked a question and people keep coming back to hear it.
I have now watched it seven times.
I know.
You can see it thinking.
You have told me this.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, a quick look at sports, and the Tour of Britain is under way. We will tell you which country it is happening in, because I have been corrected.
You have.
A quick look at sports in just a moment.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
Four results, Deb. Starting with college football.
Go ahead.
Ohio State beat Northwestern forty-one to ten on Saturday. The Buckeyes are now six and oh.
IndyCar races through Washington D.C. this Sunday. The course runs right past the National Gallery and three Smithsonian museums.
High-speed cars and priceless art.
Francesca Hennessy fights Dina Thorslund for the undisputed bantamweight world title in November in Manchester. All four belts on the line.
Magnus Carlsen defended his chess title at the Esports World Cup, beating Hikaru Nakamura three and a half to two and a half.
Still ahead - the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour.
Thank you for watching. We will see you in a few minutes.
