Rundown
KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. This is KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour.
This hour: The World Desk, where the prime minister says the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's security arrangements are a private matter. Criminal Intent, where a Florida man in a Jaguar made contact with a school bus back in February. Animals, where a bobcat is still at number five. And A Quick Look At Sports.
The bobcat has been at number five for three days.
It is very consistent.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News — The World Desk, where the prime minister wishes the Duke and Duchess well as they prepare to return to the UK later this month.
That is next.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. We have six stories from four continents tonight, and Chip has located at least two of them on the correct landmass.
I am batting three thirty-three.
That is not how fractions work.
We begin tonight with a contract that will keep one of the world's most successful drivers right where he is for the next six years. Formula One champion Max Verstappen has signed an extension with Red Bull Racing that will keep him with the team through the twenty-thirty season.
The Dutch driver, who has won three consecutive world championships, said today he was quote closer to retiring from Formula One than changing teams.
That is loyalty. Red Bull is the Austrian team.
British. The team is based in Milton Keynes.
But the name is Austrian.
The drink is Austrian. The racing team is British and has been since two thousand and five.
I stand corrected.
Verstappen is twenty-seven years old and has won sixty-two Grand Prix races.
And in the United Kingdom, the prime minister says that security arrangements for Prince Harry and Meghan are a private matter and the government will not be commenting on them.
The statement comes ahead of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's planned return to the UK later this month. The prime minister also wished them well.
They live in California now.
They have since twenty-twenty.
In Montecito, which is near the Belgian border.
It is near Santa Barbara.
How far is that from the Belgian border?
Six thousand miles.
That seems far.
It is an ocean and a continent.
I see.
Also in the United Kingdom tonight, crews have begun removing carriages from a passenger train that derailed near Lewes in East Sussex earlier this week. Investigators are examining both the track and the rolling stock to determine what caused the derailment. No injuries were reported.
Lewes is in the south of England.
It is. About an hour from London.
Near the white cliffs.
Not particularly near them, no. The White Cliffs of Dover are about fifty miles east.
But in the same county.
Different counties. Lewes is in East Sussex. Dover is in Kent.
I thought they were close.
They are both on the coast.
That is what I meant.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, a murder case out of Wexler County that took investigators twelve months to solve and two minutes to charge. That is next on Criminal Intent.
Stay with us.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I am Chip Marlowe.
And I am Deb Sarkissian. Welcome to the Blotter.
It is Florida Man Tribute night, Deb. Week eighteen.
I will get the marker.
Tonight we lead with a story from January of this year that raises the operational question: where exactly do you conceal a firearm when you are trespassing at a construction site in Polk County?
Under prosthetic silicone breasts. While wearing a red lace bra.
Polk County deputies say the suspect was found at a construction site in January of this year. He was charged with trespassing and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
One of the arresting deputies told investigators the prosthetics were, quote, ugly.
Also back in June of last year, a Florida man drove his electric car through the front window of a Palm Beach County restaurant. Police say he told them he needed to charge his vehicle at the bar.
He is facing criminal charges.
Different kind of charge. That is good, Deb.
I did not write it.
Also in our Florida files: back in February of this year, a Lee County man slammed his Jaguar sports car into the back of a school bus. The Lee County Sheriff's Office says he was arrested hours later for battery on a woman at his house. The Sheriff's Office describes him as a career criminal.
Prosecutors allege both offenses.
And rounding out this week's Florida Man Tribute: back in September of last year, a man told investigators he had no remorse about trying to shoot his roommate with an arrow after the two got into an argument over a vodka bottle that was in the trash. He is accused of calling his roommate a parasite.
Police say he used a compound bow.
That is week eighteen of the KRAK 11 Florida Man Tribute. I will update the board in the morning.
You update it at four in the morning.
It is the first thing I do when I arrive, Deb.
I know.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News: ANIMALS. The story that has been shared more than two million times. We have that for you in a few minutes.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The good news desk.
I have been watching the countdown all morning.
Since four.
The bobcat video is still at number five on the KRAK 11 animal countdown, which ranks by view growth, not total views.
Seven hundred eighty-six thousand, two hundred and six new views in the last twenty-one hours. Five million, nine hundred thirty-seven thousand, nine hundred fourteen total.
That is the third day it has held at number five. YouTube's own trending chart has it at number fifteen.
It was posted in August by GL Al Amin and it is unchanged since the last count.
I watched it again this morning.
It just... stands there. Looking at people. Like it has a question.
It does.
And then it walks away.
Nearly six million people have now seen that bobcat.
Good.
Still ahead - A Quick Look at Sports, and Ohio State is still undefeated.
Four and oh.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
You look pleased with yourself.
I have watched the Crow-Armstrong walk-off four times now.
I know. I was here for three of them.
British boxer Francesca Hennessy is in talks to fight Dina Thorslund for the undisputed bantamweight world title in the United Kingdom later this year.
That would be Hennessy's first shot at an undisputed title. Thorslund holds all four major belts.
Ohio State remains undefeated at four and oh after that thirty-one to twenty-four win over Michigan we told you about earlier this week.
And the Cubs completed their first Crosstown Classic sweep in eleven years with Pete Crow-Armstrong's walk-off single in the ninth. Final score two to one over the White Sox.
Coming up at the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News - we have new numbers on how many Wexler County students are taking up vaping, and doctors say the health impacts go well beyond the lungs.
We will see you then.
