Rundown
KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. This is KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour. Four railway workers are dead in Japan after being struck during track maintenance. We have the details from authorities north of Tokyo.
Coming up this hour: THE WORLD DESK has that story and the premier league's best opening debuts. CRIMINAL INTENT looks back at a Georgia student who went viral in July. ANIMALS has a bobcat stopping traffic. And A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS.
That is a lot of bobcat.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News: THE WORLD DESK with four workers killed at a station north of Tokyo, and what investigators are saying about how it happened.
That is next.
THE WORLD DESK
Now we turn to news from around the world.
You mispronounced Alberta last hour.
I said Alberta.
You said British Columbia and then corrected to Alberta.
Which means I said Alberta.
The British Home Office has published a new booklet for asylum seekers explaining that rape and harassment are illegal in the United Kingdom.
The nine-page document also covers respect in public, sex and consent, and gender equality.
It is part of a broader orientation program for new arrivals to the country.
The United States national debt has passed forty trillion dollars. That is trillion with a T.
The debt has doubled in the last ten years. It comes after the interest rate on thirty-year bonds reached the highest level in almost two decades.
That is the highest since the early two thousands.
Since two thousand and six.
Right. Two thousand and six is in the early two thousands.
It is in the middle two thousands.
The organisers of the Edmonton Marathon have admitted they measured the course wrong.
The two thousand twenty-six edition of the race was six hundred seventy-four meters too long.
That is more than half a kilometer. Edmonton is in British Columbia.
Alberta.
Alberta. Which borders British Columbia.
It does.
The extra distance meant runners who thought they had finished a marathon had actually run further than the standard twenty-six point two miles.
The organisers say they are reviewing how the error occurred and will remeasure the course for next year.
You train for twenty-six miles. You do not train for twenty-six miles plus six hundred meters.
No, you do not.
If you are watching on YouTube and you have not yet subscribed, do. It genuinely helps a station our size.
It costs you nothing and it means a great deal to us.
Tell us what you think in the comments. We read them.
We answer them as well.
Still ahead on KRAK Eleven News, a story that raises questions about intent, motive, and what happens when the evidence does not quite add up.
Criminal Intent is next.
Stay with us.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. This is Criminal Intent, the KRAK 11 Blotter.
Thirteen weeks in a row now.
You have a streak going.
I do. And tonight's Florida Man Tribute comes from Georgia. Back in July of this year, a Wheeler High School graduate named Johnny Coates went viral worldwide after doing an impression of the president behind him during a speech in Marietta.
Mr. Coates was standing in the crowd directly behind the podium, and the cameras caught him mimicking gestures and facial expressions.
He has since told media he did not plan it. He said he just found himself positioned directly in frame.
No charges were filed.
No charges were filed. That is our thirteenth tribute in thirteen weeks. Gordo, is the whiteboard in shot?
It is now.
Thank you, Gordo.
In Wexler County, prosecutors say a man was arrested Thursday after allegedly stealing copper wiring from a construction site on Route 40.
Deputies say they found the suspect near the site with approximately two hundred pounds of copper in the bed of his truck.
The suspect allegedly told deputies he was recycling.
He has been charged with felony theft and trespassing.
You keep count on a whiteboard.
I noticed.
It is visible preparation.
Coming up next on KRAK 11 News: an animal story we have been following since early this morning. A wildlife officer in northern Wexler County says he has never seen anything like it.
We will have that story when we return.
ANIMALS
This is the part of the hour where we talk about animals.
We have a new number five.
When the Predator is Already Watching You held that spot for three counts. It was a very good run.
This Bobcat Was Stopping Every Car, posted by GL Al Amin in August, gained six hundred thirty-two thousand one hundred thirty views in the last sixteen hours.
That puts it at number five on the KRAK 11 animal countdown, which tracks views gained in the last sixteen hours, not total views.
Five point seven million total views. Down one spot since the last count. YouTube's trending chart has it at number fourteen.
I have watched When the Predator is Already Watching You four times and every time I think the deer is going to make it.
The deer does not make it.
Not once.
You are a hopeful man.
I am an optimist about nature, Deb. It has not served me well in this segment.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, A Quick Look at Sports. Pete Crow-Armstrong hit two walk-off home runs in one week. Tonight we will tell you who else has done that.
Not many.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at the scoreboard.
Three stories tonight. Chess, Formula One, and the Premier League's greatest opening days.
I love an opening day.
Magnus Carlsen defended his world chess title at the twenty twenty-six Esports World Cup. That makes three consecutive world championships for the Norwegian grandmaster, who went undefeated through the entire tournament.
Honda admitted it only realized the full scale of its Formula One problems in January, three months into the season. The team is currently ninth in the constructors' championship with twelve races remaining.
And the BBC is looking back at some of the Premier League's greatest opening-day debuts. Alan Shearer scored a hat trick for Blackburn on his. Sergio Aguero scored two for Manchester City on his.
First impressions matter.
They do. Still ahead - the next KRAK 11 News, at the top of the hour. We will have reaction from Wexler County after a construction site theft that involved two hundred pounds of copper wiring and a truck that did not belong to the driver.
That is the KRAK 11 Scoreboard. Good night, Wexler County.
