KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening, Wexler County. This is KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Thank you for watching.
Coming up this hour on KRAK 11 — The World Desk, where Prince Harry and Meghan are moving back to the United Kingdom with both children enrolled to start school in September.
Criminal Intent brings you another Florida Man Tribute — this one from back in November of last year when movie prop money started showing up in real transactions.
Animals has number five on the KRAK 11 countdown — it gained two hundred fifty-six thousand new views in the last nine hours and YouTube will not tell us what animal is in it.
That is not how a countdown should work.
And A Quick Look at Sports — SpaceX has tugged Starship into port after twenty-four days at sea, which is not sports but it is the best story we have in that segment tonight.
Coming up next on KRAK 11 — where Harry and Meghan are moving, and which school the children will attend.
Stay with us.
THE WORLD DESK
THE WORLD DESK.
We have news tonight from four countries, two continents, and one very determined football club.
That sounds like Celtic.
It is. We begin with a sports update from Austria, where Celtic completed their Champions League playoff against LASK with a decisive second-leg victory to advance to the group stage.
LASK is based in Ljubljana, which is the administrative center of Austria's eastern region.
LASK is based in Linz. Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia.
The Danube connects them.
Celtic won four to one in Linz to complete a seven to two aggregate victory. Forward Camilo Duran scored twice, extending his scoring streak to four consecutive matches.
That is excellent form.
It is. We turn now to the United Kingdom, where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed additional details of their return. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will begin school in September, with enrollment completed last week.
The family has been living in California since twenty twenty. The children will attend school in the Windsor area, near the royal estate.
The statement did not specify whether the family will maintain a residence in the United States.
In Canberra, Australia's foreign minister will summon Israel's ambassador following the decision not to prosecute anyone in the death of aid worker Zomi Frankcom. The meeting is expected later this week.
Frankcom was killed in Gaza in April while delivering humanitarian supplies. Israeli prosecutors announced Monday they would not file charges against anyone involved in the strike.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong called the decision insulting and said Australia expects accountability. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued a statement Tuesday saying the government is outraged.
And in the Middle East, Israel has opened bidding for construction in a West Bank settlement east of Jerusalem, a project that has drawn international condemnation for more than twenty years.
The United Kingdom's foreign secretary called it an unacceptable and destructive act. The project involves housing construction in an area that has been internationally disputed since the early two thousands.
And we turn now to the Indian Ocean, where SpaceX has confirmed the recovery of debris from a rocket booster that broke apart during re-entry in July.
Christmas Island is about twelve hundred miles north of Perth, in the Atlantic Ocean.
Christmas Island is in the Indian Ocean.
Australia has two oceans.
Residents reported seeing the debris being towed offshore. SpaceX says the rocket was launched from Texas in July and crashed into the water after breaking apart during descent.
Engineers are conducting additional analysis. The company says recovery operations will continue through the end of the week.
Tell us what you think in the comments. We read them.
We answer them as well.
You answer them at four in the morning.
The world does not sleep, Deb.
Still ahead, a story that has been developing for three hours and we now have confirmation from the county. That is CRIMINAL INTENT, in a few minutes.
We will have that next.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
Another Florida Man Tribute tonight.
Four stories from the Sunshine State, where crime does not always require competence.
These are stories from last year. We will tell you when each one happened.
Back in June of last year, a convicted fraudster walked onto airplanes at multiple airports dressed as a flight attendant and flew for free thirty-four times.
Prosecutors say he wore airline uniforms and boarded multiple carriers, including Delta and American, over a period of several months.
Thirty-four flights. The jump-seater seated himself.
He was convicted of fraud this spring.
Back in April of last year, a different Florida man led Highlands County deputies on a chase that covered several miles and ended when officers boxed him in near a convenience store. Bodycam video shows what happened when the deputy approached the driver's window.
The suspect, according to the deputy's report, reached into a bag and offered him a can of vodka spritzer.
During a pursuit.
The deputy declined. The suspect was arrested on multiple charges including fleeing and eluding.
Back in November, the Marion County Sheriff's Office warned residents to check their cash after discovering movie prop money circulating in central Florida. The bills looked convincing at a glance but carried markings identifying them as motion picture use only.
The sheriff's office said several businesses accepted the bills before realizing they were props.
The bills are legal to own and sell as props, but using them as legal tender is not.
The Secret Service opened an investigation.
And back in May of last year, surveillance video captured a man entering a Port Richey business late at night and leaving with a baby alligator from a display tank.
The business reported the theft to local police. The alligator was recovered and returned.
A baby alligator.
From a tank.
That is the Blotter. Still ahead on KRAK 11 News, the number five video on our countdown has gained another quarter-million views and Deb still says the title does not tell you what animal is in it.
It does not.
We will settle it in a few minutes.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
The Good News Desk.
Four stories made me cry today. Three of them are the ones we are running.
What was the fourth?
We will never speak of it.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown is updated every nine hours and ranks videos by how many new views they have gained in that window, not by their total.
Number five has gained two hundred and fifty-six thousand, six hundred and thirty-four new views in the last nine hours. Three million, eighty-three thousand, five hundred and ninety-nine total views.
Posted by Benji Void on the sixteenth of August. Unchanged since the last count. YouTube's own trending chart has it at number eight.
YouTube files it under Pets and Animals.
The title does not name an animal.
Well. It is filed correctly.
A countdown should tell you what animal is in it.
I agree with you completely.
Still to come on KRAK 11 News, A Quick Look at Sports, and we will find out if Camilo Duran can keep his scoring streak alive against Shamrock Rovers.
Four consecutive matches.
That is next.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
Time now for a quick look at sports.
The scoreboard.
Champions League, Major League Baseball, and the Cowboys got themselves a win.
Celtic are through to the Champions League group stage after beating LASK four to one in Linz. Seven to two on aggregate. Camilo Duran scored twice, that's five goals in four games for him now.
The Cowboys beat the Rams twenty-seven to ten in Los Angeles. Dak Prescott threw three touchdowns, two of them to CeeDee Lamb.
The Red Sox beat the Yankees five to three at Fenway. Rafael Devers hit a two-run homer in the eighth to put it away.
And the Astros blanked the Rangers four to nothing in Houston. Hunter Brown pitched seven scoreless innings.
That is sports. Coming up at the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News, a Wexler County road project that was supposed to take six weeks now enters its eleventh, and we have asked the county engineer why.
That is next. Thank you for watching.
