KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening. This is KRAK 11 News at the top of the hour. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Coming up this hour on KRAK 11: the World Desk, where Canada and the United States say a trade deal is close but will not say what is in it.
Criminal Intent. Back in November of last year, a memorial service in Florida became a murder scene. One person is dead and a suspect is now in custody.
Animals. Something has climbed to number five on the KRAK 11 countdown with two hundred thirty-three thousand new views, and YouTube will not tell us what animal is in it.
That is momentum without classification.
And A Quick Look at Sports, where SpaceX has finally towed Starship into port after twenty-four days at sea. Chip will explain why that belongs on the sports desk.
I absolutely will. All of that still ahead on KRAK 11 News. But first, the World Desk.
THE WORLD DESK
THE WORLD DESK.
Good evening. We have six stories for you tonight from across the world.
Medical breakthrough, diplomatic warnings, and a development in the Middle East that has drawn international condemnation.
We begin with breaking news from the White House. President Trump is warning of what he called tremendous economic consequences for any country that provides assistance to Iran.
This comes as a sixty-day ceasefire expired Monday with no clear path forward either diplomatically or militarily.
The statement did not specify which countries are being referenced or what form the economic consequences might take. The State Department declined to elaborate when asked this afternoon.
This is the diplomatic equivalent of putting a marker down without showing your cards.
That is one way to describe it. The statement was issued late this afternoon and analysts expect clarification in the coming days.
An update now on the story we brought you earlier this evening. Trade talks between the United States and Canada are continuing as negotiators work to meet the weekend tariff deadline.
Prime Minister Carney spoke with reporters late this afternoon and said he remains optimistic that a deal can be reached, but he did not provide specifics on what issues are still outstanding.
Canada is our oldest trading partner. The relationship goes back to the Treaty of Montreal in seventeen ninety-six.
The Jay Treaty was signed in seventeen ninety-four and it was with Great Britain, which governed Canada at the time.
Which makes Montreal the administrative seat of the agreement.
Both governments say they are working to finalize details before tariffs take effect this weekend. We will continue to follow this story.
Now a significant development in diabetes treatment. Hundreds of thousands of people with type two diabetes could soon have access to a new weekly insulin injection to replace daily shots.
This is coming out of Switzerland, where they invented insulin.
It was discovered in Canada in nineteen twenty-one by Frederick Banting and Charles Best at the University of Toronto.
And they licensed it to Switzerland immediately because of the neutrality laws.
The new treatment is being evaluated by regulators in the United Kingdom. Clinical trials show it is as effective as daily injections with fewer doses required.
That is a meaningful quality of life improvement for people managing this condition every day.
It is. The approval process could take several months, but patient advocacy groups are calling it a significant step forward.
If you are watching on YouTube, do subscribe. It genuinely helps a station our size.
It costs you nothing and it means a great deal to us.
We have new information tonight from the Sheriff's office on a breaking case. Coming up in just a few minutes on CRIMINAL INTENT.
The Sheriff will brief at ten and we will carry that live.
CRIMINAL INTENT is next.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
Tonight we are running another Florida Man Tribute. I have four stories from the Sunshine State, all of them stranger than anything that happened in Wexler County this week.
That is a very low bar.
It is. And yet Florida clears it every time.
We begin back in January of this year, when a TikTok challenge sent a Florida man to jail after deputies found him live-streaming from inside a Walmart that had already closed for the night.
Deputies said they discovered him in the dog bed section.
The suspect was attempting to remain on the premises for a full twenty-four hours as part of a social media challenge. The live stream provided investigators with real-time documentation of the trespass.
He documented his own arrest.
Also back in January, Polk County deputies arrested a Florida man at a construction site after they said he had a firearm concealed under prosthetic silicone breasts. The suspect was dressed in a red lace bra at the time of the arrest.
Prosecutors allege he was trespassing on the property.
Deputies said the concealment method was, quote, ugly.
That was the official statement.
Back in December of last year, a Florida man walked into a meat market wearing only a mask and allegedly robbed the business. Investigators said he left behind a trail of clothing that led directly to his location.
Police said the suspect attempted to cover only his face.
The clothing trail functioned as a map for responding officers. This is why you wear the disguise before you arrive at the crime scene, not during the getaway.
I am not sure that is the lesson.
And back in November of last year, a memorial service in Florida for a homicide victim turned into a murder scene when a gunman allegedly opened fire on the mourners. One person was killed. The suspect has been arrested.
Authorities have not released a motive.
That concludes tonight's Florida Man Tribute.
Coming up on KRAK 11 News — a video at number five on our countdown has been filed by YouTube under Pets and Animals, but no animal is named in the title. The view count jumped by more than two hundred thousand overnight.
Still ahead — ANIMALS.
ANIMALS
Time now for the Good News Desk.
You have been looking forward to this all hour.
I have four stories tonight and three of them made me cry.
Which three?
An endangered sea turtle that washed ashore in Wales five months ago has completed a five-thousand-mile journey back to Texas and is now back in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Kemp's ridley sea turtle was found stranded on a Welsh beach in March and was flown to the United States last week after months of veterinary care.
Marine biologists released her at Padre Island National Seashore on Tuesday morning. She swam straight out.
Five thousand miles.
She knew where she was going.
In Scotland, wildlife researchers have recorded what they believe is the first confirmed sighting of a Scottish wildcat swimming across open water.
The wildcat was filmed crossing a river in the Highlands last month. Biologists say there are fewer than three hundred Scottish wildcats left in the wild.
The species was thought to be functionally extinct ten years ago. Conservation breeding programs have released dozens back into protected areas since twenty twenty-three.
And a video that YouTube has filed under animals but does not name any animal in the title has gained two hundred thirty-three thousand new views in the last eight hours.
It is at number five on the KRAK eleven animal countdown, which ranks by views gained, not total. Three million sixty thousand total views since it was posted in August.
We have not identified what animal it features, but the category stands.
Still ahead on KRAK eleven News, a Quick Look at Sports, where we will tell you which Ohio State player to watch on Saturday when the Buckeyes open against Akron in Columbus.
That is next.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
You have been watching chess replays all afternoon.
It is an elegant game, Deb.
Magnus Carlsen defended his title at the twenty twenty-six Esports World Cup in chess, defeating Hikaru Nakamura in the final four games to two.
Pete Crow-Armstrong made more history. The Cubs rookie hit a walk-off double as Chicago beat the Cardinals three to two in eleven innings.
Celtic are through to the Europa League playoff round. They won the second leg against Rapid Vienna two-one in Glasgow for a five-one aggregate victory.
And Ohio State opens their season Saturday. They host Akron at three-thirty in Columbus.
That is sports. Coming up at the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News — three people are confirmed dead in Wexler County and the sheriff briefs at ten.
We will carry that briefing live. Good night.
