KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening, Wexler County. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. It is the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News.
This hour: The World Desk, where Prince Harry and Meghan have made a decision about their children's education. Criminal Intent, where a Houston delivery driver proved that neither police chases nor being struck by a vehicle will stop the mail.
Animals, where the number five video on the KRAK 11 countdown involves whales and a problem they cannot solve on their own. And A Quick Look at Sports, where SpaceX has finally brought Starship home after twenty-four days adrift.
That last one is not sports.
It is an engineering victory against impossible odds, which is the entire premise of athletic competition.
Coming up in just a few minutes: The World Desk, where two children are starting school in September and their parents made headlines on three continents.
Stay with us.
THE WORLD DESK
Time now for the World Desk.
Good evening from the World Desk. We have movement in the Royal Family, Celtic advances in Europe, and SpaceX brings something very large home from the Indian Ocean.
That last one took some doing.
It did. We begin tonight in the United Kingdom, where Prince Harry and Meghan have confirmed they are moving back with their two children. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are enrolled to start at a school in September.
The family has been in California since the Queen stepped back from her duties.
The Queen died in twenty twenty-two. Harry and Meghan left in twenty twenty.
Which is when she stepped back.
From everything.
The children are seven and five. The announcement did not say which school they will attend, but sources say the family has been house-hunting in the Cotswolds and near Windsor.
In Scotland, Celtic advanced to the next round of Champions League qualification with a commanding two-to-zero victory over LASK in the first leg of their playoff at Celtic Park.
Celtic Park is in Glasgow.
Glasgow is in Scotland.
That's correct.
Both goals were scored by Camilo Duran. The first was a volley from just inside the box, the second a curling effort from the edge of the area that beat the keeper clean.
The second leg is next week in Austria. Celtic holds a two-goal advantage going into that match.
In the Indian Ocean, SpaceX has confirmed they are salvaging a rocket booster that broke apart during re-entry in July and crashed into the water near Christmas Island. Residents reported seeing the debris being towed offshore over the weekend.
The booster launched from Texas in July and failed during descent. SpaceX says the debris has been at sea for forty-seven days and they brought it into port yesterday.
Forty-seven days adrift in open water and they brought it home intact.
They towed it.
Against currents that have been moving cargo across those shipping lanes since the eighteen hundreds.
Christmas Island is in the Indian Ocean. The eighteen hundreds shipping lanes you're thinking of are the Pacific trade routes between San Francisco and Hong Kong.
Different ocean.
Different hemisphere.
In the Middle East, the Israeli government has opened bidding on a settlement construction project east of Jerusalem in an area that has been internationally condemned for more than two decades.
The project is in a zone known as E1. Construction there would divide the occupied West Bank into two separate areas and make a contiguous Palestinian state much harder to establish.
The United Nations and the European Union have both opposed construction in E1 since two thousand one. Israel has not built there until now, but the government says the bidding process is open and contracts could be awarded within sixty days.
We will stay on that.
We will.
If you are watching on YouTube, do subscribe. It genuinely helps a station our size.
It costs you nothing and it means a great deal to us.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News — Criminal Intent. A man arrested at Tokyo's Narita Airport, and customs officials want to know why he packed two hundred lizards in his socks.
Twenty-two pairs of socks.
That is Criminal Intent, coming up.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Time now for the KRAK 11 Blotter.
We have four stories tonight from around the country. Three of them are very strange. One of them is very sad.
We begin with what may be the most dedicated delivery driver in the history of American commerce.
This is going to be good.
Back in July of this year, a Houston woman working for DoorDash was struck by a vehicle fleeing police at high speed. She got up, according to Houston police, walked to the door, and completed the delivery.
The suspect was apprehended three blocks away. The driver was treated at the scene and released.
DoorDash issued a statement calling her a model of professionalism. They did not say whether she received a tip.
Back in August of last year, a man in Cape Coral went outside in Batman pajamas and held down a burglar until police arrived.
Cape Coral police say the suspect had broken into a neighbor's garage. The man in the Batman pajamas heard the alarm, ran outside, and tackled him.
Officers arrived to find the suspect on the ground and the homeowner standing over him in full Dark Knight sleepwear.
The suspect was charged with burglary and resisting arrest. No word on whether he was booked into Arkham.
Police said the suspect was booked into Lee County Jail.
Back in May of this year, a woman dining with her family at a lakeside restaurant in South Carolina was killed when a microburst dislodged a patio umbrella. She was fifty-six years old.
Authorities say the umbrella struck her during a sudden storm. The restaurant has been cooperating with investigators.
And back in June of last year, a man in Pinellas County called nine one one to report that he had been robbed at a club. He told dispatchers that security had taken three hundred dollars from him.
Deputies say he told them the money was intended to pay an employee for sex, and that he had not received the services he had paid for.
He was arrested at the scene and charged with solicitation.
The sheriff's office said he was very cooperative.
That is the KRAK 11 Blotter.
Still ahead on KRAK 11 News: a wildlife camera in the Highlands has captured something researchers say they have been waiting years to see. That story is coming up next.
ANIMALS, in just a moment.
ANIMALS
Time now for Animals.
Pretzel has moved his bed closer to your chair.
Thematic continuity.
He knows the segment.
Number five on the KRAK 11 animal countdown this hour is a video called How Whales Get Rid From The Barnacles, posted by DiFlix back in August.
It has gained one hundred fifty-five thousand seven hundred eighty-three views in the last five hours. Two million three hundred ninety-nine thousand five hundred fifty-one total.
YouTube's own trending chart has it at number two.
That is unchanged since the last count.
The KRAK 11 countdown ranks by how many views a video has gained, not its total, which is why the order looks different from YouTube's chart.
We count the momentum, not the library.
The Kemp's ridley sea turtle that we have been following arrived in Texas this morning after completing her five-thousand-mile journey from Wales.
She was released from a rescue facility in Anglesey in June and tracked by satellite the entire way.
Five thousand miles across open ocean to the exact beach where she was born.
That is remarkable.
It is.
A wildlife camera in the Highlands has captured the first documented sighting of a Scottish wildcat swimming.
Researchers say the camera recorded behavior that was suspected but never documented before now.
The wildcat is critically endangered with fewer than three hundred individuals remaining in Scotland.
Still ahead tonight, a quick look at sports. We will have the latest from the Champions League and a story that explains why one team's entire season came down to something the engineers could not see.
You are watching KRAK 11 News.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
This is the part of the evening where I get to tell you who won and by how much.
You have been looking forward to this since the animal segment ended.
Celtic defeated LASK two to nothing in the first leg of their Champions League playoff at Celtic Park. Camilo Duran scored both goals, a volley in the first half and a curling effort in the second.
The second leg is next week in Austria.
Magnus Carlsen defended his chess title at the twenty twenty-six Esports World Cup in Riyadh. Carlsen defeated Hikaru Nakamura in the final round to secure his fourth consecutive championship.
Four in a row.
Coming up at the top of the hour on KRAK 11 News — we will have reaction to the settlement construction project east of Jerusalem. Contracts could be awarded within sixty days, and the UN has opposed that location since two thousand one.
That is next.
