Rundown
KRAK 11 NEWS
Good evening, Wexler County. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. A new hour of KRAK 11 News starts right now.
This hour: Canada and the United States say they are finalising a trade deal ahead of this weekend's tariff deadline, but crucial details remain undisclosed. THE WORLD DESK has that story.
Then: a French man discovers five dead infants hidden in cardboard boxes in his own home back in July of this year. It is this hour's KRAK 11 Florida Tribute, and it is French. CRIMINAL INTENT has the details.
That is not what the Florida Tribute is for.
Later: number five on the KRAK 11 animal countdown holds its position with one hundred thirty thousand new views as a whale removes barnacles using rocks on the ocean floor. ANIMALS ranks the video and explains the method.
And firefighters in Toledo battle flames after an industrial explosion tears through a recycling facility. A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS will have that story.
Sports.
Athletes of crisis, Deb. That is still ahead on KRAK 11 News, along with THE WORLD DESK, where Canada says significant progress has been made but will not say on what. That's next.
THE WORLD DESK
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. Welcome back to KRAK 11 News.
Deb, before we start, the chair is still at an angle and I believe it's affecting my left shoulder now as well.
We're on air.
Right. We begin with breaking news from Britain, where a people smuggler exposed in a BBC investigation has been arrested and charged with multiple immigration offences.
Twana Jamal Khdir was taken into custody following months of undercover reporting that documented his operation across multiple countries. The investigation traced routes from Iraq through Turkey and into Western Europe.
This represents a significant victory for international law enforcement working together across the European theater of operations.
It's the United Kingdom. Theater doesn't apply.
Jurisdictions. International jurisdictions. The BBC's work on this case demonstrates the critical role investigative journalism continues to play in modern law enforcement partnerships.
Prosecutors say additional charges may follow as the investigation continues. In England, footballer Marcus Rashford has responded to ongoing speculation about his future at Manchester United.
The England striker told reporters he would like to play football without his name being mentioned every day, a clear reference to the constant transfer rumors surrounding one of Britain's most watched athletes.
The comments came after former Manchester United captain Gary Neville attempted to initiate a discussion about Rashford on a podcast, which the player apparently declined to engage with directly.
Neville played for United during their dominant stretch under Sir Alex Ferguson, which gives him unique insight into the pressures facing current squad members at Old Trafford.
Neville retired in two thousand six.
The principles of championship performance remain consistent. Rashford's career has included twenty-seven caps for the England national team and over four hundred appearances for United, making him one of the most experienced forwards in the Premier League today.
Across Europe, Celtic defeated Austria's LASK in the first leg of their Champions League playoff, with forward Camilo Duran scoring twice in what's being called one of the performances of the qualifying round.
Duran's first goal came off a volley into the top corner, followed by a curling effort that beat LASK goalkeeper Lukas Jungwirth from outside the penalty area. These are the moments that define Champions League football.
The second leg will be played in Glasgow next week. Celtic holds a two-goal advantage heading into that match.
Glasgow. Home of Celtic Football Club since eighteen eighty-seven, one of the founding members of the Scottish Football League and a cornerstone of European competition for over a century.
Chip knows his Scottish football history.
I prepare, Deb.
Still ahead: a Wexler County man faces new charges after what prosecutors are calling a pattern of escalating behavior. That story is next in Criminal Intent.
We'll have those details when we return.
CRIMINAL INTENT
Good evening. I'm Chip Marlowe.
And I'm Deb Sarkissian. A man was arrested at Tokyo's Narita Airport after customs officials discovered two hundred lizards stuffed inside twenty-two pairs of socks.
Inside socks.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was transporting the reptiles in his checked luggage. Authorities say the lizards were alive at the time of discovery.
Twenty-two pairs of socks suggests a level of organizational commitment that is, frankly, impressive from a logistics standpoint.
He is being held on wildlife trafficking charges.
Back in July of this year, a French man discovered the remains of five newborns hidden in cardboard boxes in his home following an argument with his partner.
Prosecutors say the woman had given birth at home and was taken to a hospital. An investigation is ongoing.
Back in April of this year, a person dressed in a white robe and pointed hood resembling a Ku Klux Klan member was recorded walking through a Rhode Island town at two in the morning.
Local police say they are investigating but have not identified the individual.
Two a.m. is a choice.
Back in July of this year, a nurse was impaled by a pole during a hike in Arizona and walked ten miles to reach help.
The nurse, who works in a wound care clinic, told authorities she removed the object herself and continued on foot because cell service was unavailable.
She described it as a freak thing.
Which it was.
Still ahead, we will examine a local program designed to keep pets off the streets and in their homes.
A Wexler County family says the program saved their dog's life. That's next.
ANIMALS
Time now for the good news desk.
You moved the dog bed.
I repositioned it so Pretzel would be visible during the animal segment. It's thematic continuity.
Pretzel is not here.
The KRAK 11 animal countdown tracks videos by how many new views they've gained in the last four hours, not total views.
At number five tonight, a video about how whales remove barnacles. One hundred thirty thousand twelve new views in the last four hours.
Two million three hundred seventy-three thousand seven hundred eighty total. Posted by DiFlix on the eighteenth. YouTube's own trending chart has it at number two.
Unchanged since the last count.
Which means it's holding. That's rare at number five.
People care about whales.
They do.
The Kemp's ridley sea turtle we told you about Wednesday completed her five-thousand-mile journey and arrived in Texas this morning.
She was found off the coast of Anglesey in November, treated for six months, released in March.
That is a long recovery.
It is.
And a wildlife camera in the Scottish Highlands captured something that has never been documented before. A Scottish wildcat swimming.
There are fewer than three hundred of them left in the wild.
Three hundred.
Still ahead, a quick look at sports. We'll tell you what Ohio State coach Ryan Day said today about the pressure on this season, and why some people think it's the most important year of his career.
That's next.
A QUICK LOOK AT SPORTS
A quick look at sports.
Before we begin, I want to acknowledge that this segment is reaching audiences in markets where sports coverage has become increasingly fragmented.
It's reaching Fairmont.
Fairmont is a market.
Magnus Carlsen has successfully defended his chess title at the twenty twenty-six Esports World Cup, solidifying his position as the greatest of all time in a discipline that demands the same mental endurance as any traditional sport.
Chess.
Pete Crow-Armstrong made history in the Cubs' walk-off win over the White Sox, the first time a Cubs center fielder has delivered a walk-off hit in a crosstown game since nineteen eighty-four.
Final score, Cubs four, White Sox three.
Celtic advanced to the next round of Champions League qualifying with a two-nil aggregate victory over LASK after Camilo Duran's two goals in Glasgow secured the win.
And Honda has admitted it only realized the full scale of its Formula One engine problems in January, two-thirds of the way through a season they could not fix.
Which speaks to the complexity of modern racing at the highest level, where a manufacturing deficit can define an entire competitive cycle.
It speaks to them not knowing what was wrong with the car.
Still ahead, the next KRAK Eleven News at the top of the hour, including a story out of Lake Mead we are still confirming details on.
That is all from us. Goodnight.
